So far I have 4 friends with a PS3, and onother is getting one on Friday (his birthday) and 2 moer college buddys who I know but wouldn't exactly call freinds own one... (im trying to get my big sister to buy one aswell)

and The town i'm in is like xbox 3-city... :/ :/

so yeah, its getting more popular! (good news)

Also, I'm selling this guy MGS4 and GTA4 for ?45 (USD $90) on friday, so I should finaly be able to pre-order (good deal, or ripping me/him off?)

Oh and don't worry, of the friends with a PS3, one only plays fifa, one burnout, one CoD:4, and one doesn't even have internet, so I still be able to play with all of you online

You dont care about playing with me? :'( LOL

I don't know, none of them seem that interested. I'll make some play it at my house and once theyre hooked they're bound to go out and buy it.

I've not got anyone near me with a PS3. Pretty much Xbox and Wii land around here. Still it doesn't bother me, PS3 isn't my primary system yet, I only use it for exclusives. Multiplatform always goes on the 360.

Still, it means I won't be short of volunteers for Local play on LBP, my friends and I all love PS3, they can't afford to go Mulitplatform yet, so plenty of time on LBP at mine!

No lol.

And there's a really basic explanation for this.
See, 1 friend got a PS3 at lauch, another one saw it, and wanted to get a PS3 so he could exchange games with him, and play with him online. Same thing happens with 3rd friend, 4th and so on.

Same thing happens with Xbox 360 <_<

Yeah I have a good amount of friends with a PS3, but you are right there are still a good group of xbox fans also. But hooray for PS3 getting back on top of things.
Honestly people talk about how well xbox 360 is doing and the wii and they have not even reached half of the PS2 users. There is so many people still holding a PS2 and waiting for the price to drop for the PS3. I am not worried for the PS3 sells, they will come.

Honestly Kap, and not wanting to start any kind of console war on my favorite board, but in my opinion the xbox 360 has better exclusives, that are released and that are game that I want to play.

Bioshock, Halo 3, Gears of War, Forza 2 (sorry, but I like it more than Gran Turismo), Crackdown, uh, I'm stuck off the top of my head right now, but you get the idea, those are the exclusives I've enjoyed.

Now the PS3 is catching up. Fast. And Bioshock (one of my favorite 360 exclusives) isn't going to be an exclusive for long. And LBP will probably BE my favorite exclusive.

BUT each to his own and that doesn't mean anything about any one particular console. As I have long said (usually to deaf ears) all 3 consoles in this generation have their strong and their weak points, and you are blind if you can't see that that is the case. BUT all 3 are also well worth owning (which I do).

Just because I do favour one console over another, doesn't mean that the other isn't a VERY good machine with some brilliant exclusives (and some awful ones, but then so does the 360!), and some fantastic looking future exclusives (personally, LBP and Heavy Rain top that list).

That said, for my money, right now the 360 has better exclusives.

On any other forum, I'd hold up a flame shield, but here, I trust you all to hold an intellegent discussion based on the comments I've made.

EDIT:

For fairness, the following are GOOD or better exclusives again, in my opinion for the PS3:

Ratchet and Clank
Uncharted
Resistance

MGS4 is a great exclusive.

Also defending Kap here, he was talking about future-wise the best console line up is the PS3. Not currently.

Yeah you are totally right that each console does have its things, but don't tell me that xbox 360 is better than PS3. Xbox has good things, there on-line is good (but you pay for it), and they do have some good games. But I am not a huge halo fan, but they do have some good games. I give them that.
The wii is a cool console also, nintendo has not been in the game business for years by creating a sucky console, they know what works and knew how to create something to do well against the power of PS3 and xbox 360.
But I do believe the PS3 is the best system out, because of the use of blu-ray, it was smart to put that in and not just because it won the format war but it gives game companies ability to go larger than one DVD, there isn't a constraint. Yes the PS3 cost more but if xbox 360 was smart they would have put a HD Drive in there and not had the problem of being stuck with DVD games. Xbox 360 is going to start lossing faith from the game companies because of this and PS3 will get more exclusives.
Microsoft charges for everything on xbox live, already companies have complained about this, and the lack of a HD Drive hurts also.
Put yes I do agree that all three consoles have there goods, nothing wrong with having all the systems.

Some very good points Darth, and I can see why PS3 is best for you.

My counter points for myself:

I AM a big Halo fan, so I was always going to be biased towards buying the 360.

Blu-Ray is okay. It looks GREAT. But, in the UK, there is quite a slow take up on HDTVs, so it's wasted on most, and as a knock on, we have only just started getting a decent amount of Blu-Ray releases, and they are still FAR too expensive over here. (often a good $30-40 dollars for a film. I'm not sure how much they cost over your way, but that's awful for our prices when DVDs are hovering between $15 and $25)

I didn't buy my console to play films, I tend to use my PC for that

And, the last part I didn't mention last time, but probably should:

Right now, the 360 is my primary console as I've mentioned in another thread. If they don't start signing up some new decent exclusives, it won't be in 9-12 months. There are more exciting exclusives for PS3 in the pipeline than there are for the 360. Again, this is an opinion based on my personal interest for upcoming games.

The main problem I have with that is that Sony Europe tend to treat it's customers fairly poorly (late releases, NO special editions like the amazing looking Resistance 2 limited edition, POOR PSN service with some awful lag, [Honestly, I'd rather pay and get a decent service like I do with my XBL] and choosing to keep the price FAR higher than the equivalent in the US).

I'm hoping that will change.

Quick (Heh. Heh.) overview by me:

The Wii was a terrible idea. Innovative? Yes. I'll give it that. But I've used the Wii a fair piece, and in practice, it just does not deliver. The places where the motion sensing ability is said to be used best I find to be imprecise at best, and at worst completely incapable of play. The fact that it gives you an imprecise instrument and then demands precise play out of it completely kills it for me. It also means that most any type of "normal" game that are firmly established on consoles for years (racing, for a good example) are terribly implemented, and the the ones that are suited for the motion controls just don't give it the justice an analog stick has. PLUS, it's giving far too many people a very wrong idea of what gaming is.
The bottom line: Party games? Sure. Gaming? Not a chance.

The Xbox 360 is a machine I respect. It has very good capability. However, I've been losing this respect lately. I've always regarded the console as finicky, but recently discovering how Microsoft designed it, my view of it has cooled. Really, it may be "very good" but it's not outstanding. Pretty much every advantage the 360 has is marketing. And it's dying, and Microsoft knows it. ($200 for the (nigh-worthless for its potential, frankly) Arcade version. 256 meg flash memory. Heh. It has more RAM.)

The PS3 I have been impressed with since I sat down and played with it. And that typically grows as I use it more. It was ill-handled by Sony early on, but it's steadily been getting better. Plus, for those of us where our money is invested with a length of time in view, the PS3 is the choice to make. It was made to have potentially ten years of life out of it. Considering how well the PS2's been holding on even during the PS3's lifecycle, as well as how long this generation is going to last, that's a fairly safe bet. It's a hundred or two dollars more up-front investment, but it's very worth it. Plus, the PS3 is only getting better from here.

I saw them coming out in 2007, so I got a Ps3, when the 360 craze was going on, and I must say, I'm happy with my choice.

Yeah I know fur Europe PS3 has been a let down, but you have to think that the US and Japan is logically the areas it has to focus. XBOX 360 took EU and US, and it will never take Japan.
But I just think that Xbox 360 was not built for the long haul and Sony built a system that will last for ten years. I know xbox has some great games but I don't see it keeping up with what gamers want.

By Thursday I intend to have a PS3. Personally, I want a PS3 bcause of games like God of War, GT, Ratchet n Clank and new games like LBP.XB does have DOA,Forza, Halo, n Fable but everything else will be hit-or-miss titles with no cusion for sells while PS has many. Thats why they dug into PS exclusive box(DMC4,FFXIII...). Without those XB would perish. But I have a friend who has a XB and my fav feature was the achievements. I've not seen anything else attractive about the XB. Enlighten me...2008-09-24 00:37:00

xD exactly, I see things turning around too. I did a search the other day for PS3 exclusives and Xbox 360 exclusives for an idea I had for a wallpaper... Dude, whoever still says Xbox has more/better line-up of software is either lying out of their uhm.. but OR very miss-informed! Google it! Things are looking good for our #1 console!

Ok so re-reading what I said, I need to re-explain myself xD

But yea you guys got the gist of it and I like all the stuff you wrote in your posts. Finally a site that can discuss consoles w/out crossing over into hell!!

So when I wrote "Dude, whoever still says Xbox has more/better line-up of software is either lying out of their uhm.. but OR very miss-informed!" I was thinking of current and future releases (and basing my opinion on both equally - and when I say future, I don't mean 2 years from now, I mean one year or so!). I was also thinking of retail employees. They feel they can say XBOX has more exclusives. I was also thinking of Microsoft, oh how they love to brag! Fact is, the field is level! If anyone likes games more on one console or the other, then their personal preference should drive their choice, period! [EDIT: Scratch that, after compiling my list below, I've come to realise I can assert myself in saying that the PS3 has MORE exclusives of interest to anyone with no preference. I.e. if you need you Halo fix, no doubt X360 is for you, if you need your GranTurismo fix, PS3 is for you. If you want to play tons of GREAT games with no particular titles in mind, check these links and tell me I'm wrong (all your opinions are valid to me btw) XBOX360 Exclusives (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categorybox_360-only_games) , PS3 Exclusives (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CategorylayStation_3-only_games)]

And ok, so since lists of exclusives have been brought up (and I feel like I'm rambling on pointlessly due to not getting into the beta yet ) here then is my list of exciting exclusives. (I had to google this to be sure not to miss any!)

First XBOX 360 (i.e. games I would like to try):

- Castle Crashers
- Gears of War 2
- Halo 3
- O_O I thought there would be more (seriously I'm not kidding or being a smart ***)

Ok so second, PS3 exclusives I liked (and some of these were hated by many, but I had a good time with them):

- Haze (played coop with a buddy 9 hours straight to beat the game, it was a blast THANKS to this!)
- Lair (this was a HARD game. People were annoyed with the controls. I embraced them, actually LEARNT to control my dragon with the Sixaxis and apart for the 180 degree turn, became quite skilled at flying/fighting. It was new and tough and people just aren't used to that anymore)
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Pain (awesome party game!)
- Super Stardust HD (fun enough, and multiplayer)
- Tori-Emaki (fun for showing off HDTV/PS Eye)
- Aquatopia (same as above)
- Operation Creature Feature (ALOT of fun with friends, goofing around with motion capting)
- Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (a must video game experience IMO)

And third (no not Wii, I find the controls unrefined as well) so third is PS3 games coming out I'm excited about:

- LBP (duh! xD)
- Final Fantasy Versus XIII
- Flower
- God of War III
- InFamous
- MotorStorm: Pacific Rift
- Wipeout HD (not just some old remake, out in 2 days!)

And that's that! There is more to say. Other points to make other than just games, but software is the FOCAL reason for buying a games console and so I will leave it at that for now!

Might feel enough courage to write more another day on other advantages of XBOX360 and PS3 (each have them, but different ones).

Yeah I agree that this forum is so great, this could have turned out bad and instead everyone has posted good points about each system. I do think that most of us are gamers and I think that is why the wii does not work for our needs. But I think it was smart for nintendo to go there direction because they would have had a hard time against PS3 and Xbox 360, they went and made a simple system for the average person but I do hope they do make a better system next round or at least make a Mario, Zelda game for a PS3 or Xbox 360 so us gamers can finally see what one of these would look like on a better system.

Also I would also like to say that blu-ray is just not about movies but about the idea that we can get bigger games, LBP, MGS4 could not work on the Xbox 360. Not saying Xbox 360 is not getting good games, but game companies are going towards PS3 because of blu-ray, and it is because they are not held to a DVD and also the lack of HD drives for Xbox 360 is a problem. Yes I know Xbox 360 has HD but not everyone, there are games coming out that are going require them.

But again I have to say that this forum has some great people.

First off, Darth, you are right about two things there, first off, forum = GREAT. It's been nice having a proper conversation on this subject with people on the PS3 side of things without fanboyism and petty arguments over nothing.

The second is that you are right in that Blu-Ray does make some form of impact on the games too, I often lose sight of that when I'm thinking about it.

Kap, I think it just comes down to personal preference,

- Haze I've played and think it's NOWHERE near as good as Halo, Resistance (Which should be on the list) or Half Life 2
- Lair I hated that one. I like my games to be hard, but I found the graphics awful and the story lukewarm at best. Again, personal preference, I'm sure some people loved it, but it certainly wasn't for me.
- Metal Gear Solid 4 Yikes, I'm going to be in trouble for this one. Yawn. I REALLY couldn't get into the game. I played for 5 hours and still felt like I wished I still had MGS 1 instead. I played on a friends save at a later point and still wasn't enthralled. But honestly, any game where you have to suffer through 5-7 hours of gameplay to "get to the good part" is too far up itself with it's own legacy and storytelling. Again, personal preference, it REALLY isn't mine. MGS online, controls were clunky, matches were too slow paced for me, I'd rather play CoD4.
- Pain Great fun. Not a system seller obviously, but great.
- Super Stardust HD - Good. But I never really think of arcade games as part of this, if we are looking at those exclusives, for me, Braid is one of the best exclusives, it's pretty cool.
- Tori-Emaki Haven't heard of this one, will look it up later, am always interested in checking out good games
- Aquatopia Or this one
- Operation Creature Feature Or this...
- Uncharted: Drake's Fortune No argument from me here. I found playing Drakes incredibly entertaining, very funny, witty, and well written and directed. AAA title all round.

That's not all the great PS3 games either, but, and again, only currently released titles, and ones that I loved playing, 360 had/has:

Bioshock, Halo 3, Dead Rising, Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Forza 2 (Sorry, but it's better than motorstorm, I was underwhelmed by that one), Mass Effect (Fantastic game, AMAZING story, looking forward to the sequel) The WORKING copy of the Orange Box, Bully, Crackdown, Saints Row, Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo.

If we're including arcade games, N+, Braid, TMNT arcade remake, Carcassone, and some others which I can't remember off the top of my head.

Still, honestly, the two main things and reasons why I keep the 360 as my primary console are:

Better online service - Matches are less laggy, downloads of demos and system updates are far faster for me, and no installing. Nothing I hate more than getting my new game home, installing it, downloading updates for 25-40 mins (MGS4) and installing them, and then FINALLY getting to play it. I have yet to have an install that I felt benefitted me. Also, I prefer the 360's "Blades" to the XMB, plus a decent messaging service between players. Again, opinion, not fact.

All my IRL friends have one - Same as what you guys have said, it's nice to have the same system as your friends so you can co-op or crush someone you know in a deathmatch.

And as I've said, as far as future releases look, PS3 is currently miles ahead. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds and hoping Sony sort out Home to be as all singing all dancing as they claim, and sorting out the online service, because it could be the best system by miles, but it's got a way to go before I swap it in as my primary system. For now, all my multi platform releases will continue to go to 360.

Good points Flakmagnet, I can see why you like xbox. And I think that is a good reason, the games have been good on the xbox side and the internet is better for on-line games. Very good points.
I also have to say about MGS4, I can see why you don't like it. I don't think it was for everyone. I have heard from plenty of people who have not liked this game, and even people who have been MGS fans since this one.

Oh yeah, if I didn't make that clear, I LOVED the original and quite liked 2 and 3, just couldn't get into the fourth.

To steer this thread (that I hijacked) back on course...

PS3's future is looking bright, and I am looking forward to more console bretheren and some quality new games.

As I do own an HDTV, the PS3 really is the best console for me. While I love to game, my PS3 basically serves as a media hub. Whether it be gaming, watching Blu-rays, or streaming media via TVersity, my console is on and getting some sort of use nearly every evening. It's more bang for my buck and I get a tremendous amount of use from the product.

All the consoles play games; I wanted to spend my money on something that could do that and give me the best overall experience on top of that.
