I've experienced this now a couple of times. The first was after 00Sack-Betrayed, and when inspiration finally struck me it was so much at once that I had to split my next one in two. Then I had it again just a few weeks back... and was stuck there, ready to just quit (or at least take a long break from LBP), when I suddenly got hit with a new inspiration. Now I'm back in the editor every free moment I've got, and I can't stop thinking about the dang thing (as is always the case when I start creating in full-swing).

So my advice is... just hang in there, but don't try to force it. Enjoy playing the game. Maybe offer to help other creators in the Help! forums by creating some tech demos or whatnot. When it hits you again, it will be new and fresh and fun again!

If you've not already... go back through the Spotlight archives and play through those levels. Some great, inspirational stuff in there!

Why not do what I did when I started creating? Take the music of a band you like and who have interesting song titles, then make a level inspired by it. Brutal Legend did pretty much the same thing, but inspired by heavy metal album cover art. If you want an example of the potential that music holds as a source of inspiration, take a look at this tracklisting from Mastadon's Blood Mountain...

The Wolf Is Loose
Crystal Skull
Sleeping Giant
Capillarian Crest
Circle of Cysquatch
Bladecatcher
Colony of Birchmen
Hunters of the Sky
Hand of Stone
This Mortal Soil
Siberian Divide
Pendulous Skin

See what I mean?

I go back and forth between playing with objects and making levels. Lone Ninja started as me wanting a bad guy that attacks only when he sees you, and bad guys that had to be killed through weapons or environments. Once I had played around enough to make one or two crap bad guys, I invented a single level design. Finishing the level made me realize I wanted a story, which led me to realize I wanted my bad guys to not be crap...and the cycle went on.

It's better if you just expect everything you make to turn out badly. That way, you can hope to be occasionally surprised.

I've been there many times, but rather than sit for hours not getting anything done, I just switch off now and do something else.

I can't count how many games/movies I've watched that have inspired a new level idea. Even every day things like going to the supermarket can give you inspiration.

Don't stagnate in create, you'll only get sick of it.

I have to agree.. Don't let it bother you. Do other things. If you feel like it, simply play some levels or check out the Community Spotlight. At least you catch up on your play list!!

I think the worst time I have had in create mode is forcing it along. If I am not into it, the results can't be any fun. Those times I tend to exit to pod and discard all changes.

Anymore, I try to wait till I have some really good ideas before I even concern myself with going in create mode. Sometimes my create mode visits are simply an inventory check of what I have and where I am and possibly create a checklist of sorts.

Some of my best inspiration comes from closing my eyes and thinking about kind of movements are fun to me. Maybe even go through the level movements in your mind up to that point and then try to imagine what fun thing to do next with your sackboy. For me it helps to stop worrying about what to make and simply think of what would be fun to do.

Make an inventory of those ideas and sketch them on paper. Nothing fancy, just some rough drafts to help fine tune a concept ..then go into some workshop levels and play around when you feel like it. Depending on the complexity of the object, I might even fine tune the sketch figuring out how I might build. That in turn has helped me realize design issues up front rather than designing myself into a corner and becoming frustrated in create mode.

The most important rule is have fun!!
