For All You Assassin's Creed Players

Ever wondered why Assassin's Creed has that totally random eagle vision thing?
Well, while I was at a park during a space program, there was a constellation display, and while skimming over it I found a star in an eagle constellation, and it just so happened that it was right where it's eye would have been located on its head. And you'll never guess what the star was called - Altair! At first I was like "OMG GTFO", and with a little more research I found this:

The name Altair has been used since medieval times. It is an abbreviation of the Arabic phrase النسر الطائر, an-nasr aţ-ţā?ir (English: The flying eagle). This name was applied by the Arabs to the asterism of α, β, and γ Aquilae and probably goes back to the ancient Babylonians and Sumerians, who called α Aquilae the eagle star.[16] The spelling Atair has also been used.[17] The Koori people of Victoria also knew Altair as Bunjil, the Wedge-tailed Eagle

So, now you know how the whole eagle vision thing ties into the game.

And you never wondered before why he was named Altair? Why he has a pointy hood and you can hear an eagle scream(?) whenever you jump of a high building? 2009-11-04 16:39:00

@Syroc: I didn't, I just thought it was a name. It's what his mommy calls him, surely?

I was also preoccupied by the apostrophe being in the wrong place.

Well, they're a little boned when they get to Assassin's creed three... Desmond doesn't mean eagle.

(based on my guess of where the series is going, lol)

Isn't his full name Desmond Miles? Eagles can see for miles. Its a bit of a stretch but it could work.

Hm, that gets me thinking. What if in the third one (if there will be a third) you could run around the futuristic city with Desmond just like you could with Altair and Ezio? With guns! That would be so awesome ^o^

And you never know, maybe "Desmond Miles" has some sort of significance to it to help it relate to the game.

Well they have confirmed there will be a third, and that it was always intended to be a trilogy. They have also said that you will be able to "do more" with Desmond in 2, so I'm assuming there will be more bleeding of assassin skills from Ezio.

That makes me think that yes, AC3 will have Desmond actually being the Assassin. It's a big assumption, based upon very little evidence, but is seems like they could be setting up for that to me. Personally I'd rather see it staying in historical settings but meh, what you gonna do?

Yeah. What if in Assassin's Creed 3 you had to go against the government or military or something? Sort of like a Mirror's Edge sort of touch? I think that would be cool. Or maybe it'll have more to do with stealth. I just think it would be awesome to be able to play as Desmond.

:O *GASP*
What if it had MULTIPLAYER!?!

Well... Why not go up against the modern-day templars? That would make more sense, wouldn't it? All the rest of the assassins are killed in the first one, so that leaves Desmond to stop the Templars for carrying out their plan from part one...

What are the templars anyway? :l

They were an order of christian knights. As I recall they weren't actually aligned to any particular country, were self-governed and very secretive about their internal structure. They became very wealthy, through a variety of means, and quite powerful. For some reason they were very skilled fighters as well (not sure why, maybe just selective policies for initiation)

A lot of people became very suspicious of them, largely for their secrecy and exclusivity and probably jealousy. A lot of rumours were spread around and there is still a lot that is not known about them.

This is all going off stuff I read years ago, so may or may not be accurate....

I'm thinking Feudal Japan. It explains the Japanese (I presume) at the end of the first. It would be awesome since the main character would not only be an assassin, but a ninja! And I think we all know your opinion on ninjas...

That would be awesome. Like boss battles would be Samurai. Not to mention you would get smoke bombs and all the best assassin things. Blinding pepper, aformentioned smoke bombs, awesome weapons, ninja projectiles, show off flips to the freerunning, and the final boss could be a Pirate. That would be the end of that. Won't happen but I still like the idea.2009-11-07 10:14:00

You get smoke bombs in #2

I don't really see how feudal japan would make much sense TBH. I'd certainly prefer it to modern times but I don't see how it fits. The japanese markings (is that even what they were??) were from a different animus users, with different ancestors, so to my mind bare's no real link to Desmond. It will also mean that there will be no real resolution to the modern day plot - the Templars will still succeed...

I hope for the third sequel during French Revolution or the First Worl War/Russian Revolution.
WW2 is so much abused in video games.

WW1 isn't in games because it would be boring lol. WW2 is perfect for it (as in, perfect for games in general, not this)

I would love it to be in Japan...

Well, looking at the structures in the first two, my guess would be Rome. Though they might throw us alittle something by giving us a humongous world that consists of alot of different cities. I'm still calling it Rome though. That and I want to climb the Coliseum.2009-11-09 02:35:00

In Assassin's Creed 3 you'll be even further in the future playing as Desmond. And then in Assassin's Creed 4 you'll be even FURTHER in the future playing as the guy who played Assassin's Creed 3. It'll just go on and on and on and on and on...2009-11-09 04:16:00

Heheh, good thing I reminded you. But seriously, I meant to say, Tenchu did a fine job letting me play an assassin in feudal Japan. I'd rather be an assassin in some other time, like uhm... Victorian London?2009-11-11 10:25:00

Like Jake the Ripper? That's already in the works.

(Yes, there is a difference between assassin and mass murder, but it ends up being the same in a game)

Let me direct you to a quote from one of my favourite movies:

No, no, psychopaths kill for no reason. I kill for money. It's a job... That didn't come out right

Yep, as long as you're getting paid to kill people on a daily basis, it's all fine and dandy

Do it as a hobby and that's just plain wrong

I'm thinking more of the future scenes with Desmond. I get the feeling that at some point we'll be running around with machine guns as a way to ramp up the sequels that so many games feel they have to do.

There weren't that many guns in Victorian London. Sure the army had them, but police didn't. You could certainly do a game in that time period and not have it looking like Gears of War.

I don't see them turning the game on it's head for the third installment. Why would they change the entire feel from the first two games for the final chapter?2009-11-15 13:02:00

If they include modern guns I bet it'll be silenced pistols and sniper rifles not machine guns, you're an assassin not an 80's movie hero.2009-11-15 13:27:00

Well, we don't know what the feeling is from the second game yet.

I'm not saying they absolutely will change it up, but I look at the ending of the first game, where they dropped the stealth aspect altogether and had you plowing your way through an army to get to the bad guy, which went completely against the grain of the rest of the game. That was the typical 'make everything bigger since it's the end of the game' way of thinking.

Again, not saying it's set in stone or anything, just that it wouldn't be a massive shock if by the third game they ended up going a little too far with the 'more is more' approach they seem to have taken with the second.

Well, it would have seemed anti-climatic if they had the last mission stealth. Atleast the stealth they had throughout the game. I kind of liked the end in a masochistic way. I think they should have made it more of an option to use stealth and dash in headfirst.

Guns would be a great idea. But not for Desmond. The future him should bust some heads with the blades, like his ancestors left it for him somewhere. If enemies have guns like the gunpowder and ball type, you could have to dodge and try to get to them before they reload.

Gameplay team. Taking care of quite anything Ezio.
It's been a really enriching and exciting experience and now it's rewarded 10 times by a positive gamer's response. Great times!!

Is this sarcasm? Or do you *actually* work for Ubi Montreal? lol.

I read the gamespot review - This bit made me particularly happy

If you get really enamored with the dual blades, you can hang from a ledge and wait for an enemy to walk above you, stab him, and toss him to the ground below. It's particularly satisfying to do so above the Venetian canals, because the body will splash into the water and then float to the top. Or if you'd rather conduct your bloody business from above rather than below, you can wait for your target to walk below and then assassinate him in one spectacular move.

Dropping assassinations FTW!
