Tree Material

Archive: 5 posts

Hey guys, just thought I'd ask if anyone knew whether it was possible to separate the material used on the top of the LBP tree (it waves around when moved). Dropping a large stone block on the trunk breaks off the trunk, but its image is still there, it's just incorporeal (moves through everything), however it can have emitters/switches put on it. Any idea if it's possible to get just a chunk of the leaf material itself?2009-11-04 15:41:00

There was a glitch in the beta that let you separate pieces of Mm objects, dunno if anyone tried it with the tree. Either way, wouldn't be able to take it to the normal game, so scratch that.

Hmm, would be a cool material to have.

The object separating glitch from the beta wouldn't have worked anyways. It was only capable of separating multi-part items, such as the fish, where each part had a separate glowing outline. The tree, however, features one common texture. It's kinda like the spikes hazard; trunk and top are two separate physical objects, but share one texture map.

To put it simple - even if we found a new way of separating Mm objects, I don't think we'd be able to get rid of the trunk completely.

You could, however, supersize the tree or put multiple layers of trees with physically destroyed trunks over each other to create an impressive piece of scenery.

Treas, how come crushing the trunk removes JUST the trunk, then?2009-11-04 23:07:00

As said, they're two physically separated objects, but they share the same visual texture map. Exactly like the spikes object; you can crush the spikes of it. This way, it's delethalized, physically, just the base remains. The graphics, however, don't change, as you can still see the spikes.

Same applies for the tree. Even if you find a way to crush one physical part of the object, the texture remains in place.
