Common Technologies' Easter Eggs

Archive: 11 posts

This is a thread for everyone to mention Easter Eggs in their everyday hardware and software. Try and keep it fairly common, so it'll benefit others, but it can be obscure if you want.

#1 - Sky+ users (UK): Holding down the rewind button while watching a recorded program skips to the beginning. Holding the fast-forward button skips to the end. Holding the play button down turns on Sloooowwww-motttiiioooon. Pressing "Sky" at any point returns to the channel you were watching (ie quitting a menu/recording). Pressing Play while watching TV will bring up an option to play your last viewed recording from the point you last left it.

#2 - On most phone cameras and normal cameras too (though most people know of this for normal cameras, many DON'T for phone ones), holding down the Capture Image button will focus the image.

#3 - Typing *#06# on your mobile phone will reveal your phone's unique ID (used in traces etc.)

Here's a website dedicated to easter eggs.
http://eeggs.com/
I haven't browsed it in years though.

I was playing with my toaster, a sweet white dual-slice Toastmaster T2000. The toast wasn't staying down, so I tried pushing the lever down, then flicking it up, then down, then up, then up AGAIN, then I took the toast out, soaked it in water for a half hour, then put it back in and put the lever down, then unplugged it, then plugged it back in HALFWAY, and then super sweet bright blue colorful glowing things shot out of it, and it made tons of cool new sound effects I've never heard before, and here's the best part - it actually turned off all the lights and appliances in the entire building!

Now that's one handy easter egg!

might only be in the usa, but......

on a lot of coca-cola machines that have the tiny led that scrolls "Ice Cold Coca-Cola" on them, pressing the buttons in a certain order will pull the debug menu with a lot of mostly useless options on it.

if its a machine with one vertical row, just count them downward.

if it has multiple rows/columns, count left to right from the top row to the bottom, like so:

1 2 3
4 5 6

Now, dunno if its cause it can't be changed, or people are lazy, but the default code, that will work on 99% of them is 4, 2, 3, 1. the little led display will then show "error." if it does, you are in the menu. there are some other options like "sales" which shows sales for the day or something like that, an option to see the internal temp, and whatnot. I believe that the 1 key works as enter and 2 and 3 are forward and back respectively, but i cant remember.

you can't do any real damage to the machine, or steal from it, so don't even think about it.

oh, and to exit out of it so that it can be used again, just hit the change return button.

I know one for Flash 8

Click Help > About Flash Proffesional,

Then on the window that appears try to click PRECISELY on the dot of the 'i' in macromedia.

You should get a new window with about 6 minigames like tetris and astrolander.
(doesn't seem to work on mine at the moment but it's worked before )

You appear to have mixed up the basic functions of a device with something thats just a silly little extra.

I heard some designers of popular companies have their name microscopically etched onto some products for kicks.
