Games that disappointed you.

Archive: 55 posts

Uncharted - Everyone was ranting and raving over how amazing this game was. I played it and felt it was okay at best. Awfully repetitive and somewhat boring at times. Not particularly interested in the sequel, either.

Resistance - Call of Duty with aliens. Not much to say here.

Killzone 2 - *yawn* also glowing grenades.

Raystorm - Incredibly boring compared to Rayforce. At least the orgasmic soundtrack made up for it.

Gradius 4 - Well, it's not a bad game. It was just lacking compared to other Gradius games.

Supreme Commander - Dunno...just didn't do it for me. I think it was the focus on scale...it felt too big. Cybran was also broken. Guess I'll just stick to Total Annihilation

Far Cry - Cool idea, just not executed right. Also retardedly hard at some points.

Sonic the Fighters - Some of the stupidest design choices I've ever seen in a fighting game. Limited blocks? Seriously? Also, Fang is unbeatable if you whore this one combo over and over again. Forgot what it was, but I managed to beat the game with it, including the timed final boss sequence with Robotnik.

Deus Ex: Invisible War - Ugh, they took some of the coolest gameplay mechanics ever seen in an FPS and instead of expanding upon them, they dumbed them down. Not a completely terrible game, but compared to what it was following up on...just...yeah

Jak II - Oh, ****'s sake, don't even get me started on this one. Probably one of the worst games I have ever played. Crappy gunplay, terrible design choices, retarded overworld, HORRENDOUS dialogue, unforgiveable bugs and glitches...I better stop before I get PTSD from talking about this game. It just sucks.

Daxter - This game defines boring. The levels are all stock and uninteresting, the music is boring, the weapons are boring, the enemies are boring, the bosses are boring. Just boring boring boring.

Sonic Unleashed - Pretty flawed. For one, it's too frigging fast, the level design is surprisingly linear, the werehog segments are eww and it get's unfairly hard at some pints...but it is at least a step in the right direction. I'll give it that.

House of the Dead 3 - This IS a pretty fun game, but it just wasn't as challenging or as engaging as previous HotD games. 2 was the series' peak.

Grand Theft Auto IV.

I got it with my used PS3, but it was one of the games I was interested in buying prior to getting a PS3. Unfortunately, I get so bored playing it that I never actually finished the story mode. I have some mild fun blowing up cars and then I set it aside for a few months.

For a game that's supposed to have a "100.0% perfect score!! No game will ever be as good!!!!", I was not impressed.

Play Uncharted 2 now! (Unless you don't like action-adventure)

Ehm, GTA IV. 7/10 so boring, pointless up to the very last mission where you finally have a reason do actually do something. The rest was just: "Niko, kill that guy!" "Why?" "I pay you." "Fair enough".
Brucie and the rastafari were cool though. (Unlike the cousin who always called you...)

AC 1 - Seriously. Do the game designers not know how to make gameplay which is isn't copy paste?

Two Worlds - Epic Edition - Expected more... Was just.. glitchy and a bit ovverated.

COD4 - SP .. Bad.. too short.. - MP.. Awfull, Very boring.. not enough to do

COD6(MW2) - This has disappointed me as it shows the developers do not care about peoples feeling. "Leaked Airport Massacre Trailer"

My biggest disappointment this generation is, with out a doubt, Too Human. I was so hype for that game, but after the negative reviews I decided to hold off for a price drop. Eventually, I picked it up on the cheap and even with the discounted price, I was let down. In fact, I disliked the game so much that I let a friend borrow it and I haven't asked for it back, because I don't care if I ever get it back!2009-11-03 23:34:00

UCHU Far cry 2 i thought was horrible but the old one

Far cry Instincts was awesome

Halo odst sorta dissapointed me.
AMAZING when you first get it. After 2 weeks it gets old but still fun to play every now in then.
new maps for multiplayer from it were cool i guess though

Spore.

Quite simply the longest hype I've ever had for a game that wasn't a sequel (like a year and a half, maybe more), and it just had so much potential. Very sad times.

I think that's the only time I've ever been truly disappointed by a game actually.

Batman Begins.

I was naive back then, I didn't know about movie-licensed games.... I expected something godly, but by god, it SUCKED.

Fallout 3.

Got it when i first had my ps3 and quickly flicked through all my games.
I was really looking forward to Fallout 3 because of my friends going on about it constantly - I was playing it for 10 minutes and all it did was bore and depress me on an otherwise happy Christmas morning.
Still now when i play it it just makes me bored and miserable, it's very rare that i manage to squeeze any fun out of that game.

This, a hundred times over. In fact, I think it's safe to say that I've never been more crushed by a game than by Spore.

I still spent a LOOOONG time in the "galactic" mode, the final game, spreading out into different worlds and systems, STRAINING to enjoy myself because I wanted to sooooooOOOO badly. It was draining and frustrating and annoying because you couldn't just explore at your own pace, you were CONSTANTLY upkeeping and maintaining everything - little things would pop up incessantly. "pirates are looting your colony!"
Ah for ****s sake.
*heads over to colony, kills pirates*
Okay, back to terraforming.
*heads all the way back to the other system*
"An enemy civilization is attacking your home planet!"
Are you ****ing kidding me? Great, here we go.
*heads over to home planet*
"There's a snake in your boot!"
WHAT???!

Wait, where's that tutorial on how to shame someone Shermz' made? I'm sorry, this is just my opinion, but Fallout 3 is a great game. The intro is, yes, a tad boring, but the moment I stepped out of that vault and saw the world in front of me...wow. I still play it even after so long, and I have not discovered everything, and only have 1 DLC pack so far. It is a great game.

As for Spore, I was a tad disappointed by it, but the Galactic Adventures Expansion is actually really good, although a tad glitchy!

Games that really did disappoint me...hmm...well, I usually know in my heart whether I'll enjoy a game before I buy it personally, but....ummm...Lord of the Rings: Conquest is one of the few I was disappointed by.

I played it long enough that these things stopped actually being hassle. If anyone invaded me, it tended to result in genocide. I'd just cut a swathe through their empire, leaving nothing but burning cities and weeping women. It tends to keep the uprisings down

Really annoyed me that the only sensible path was aggression. Economic and sociable domination was just waaaaay to hard.

rtm, ahh, you obviously don't know the tactics! I had one Economic spore profile - basically, all you need to do is find earn enough money for the Terraforming tools and as many colonies as you can get, then choose 2/3 star systems with 3/4 planets each, and make sure each planet has a rare-ish spice (or close to it). Best I found was Pink/Yellow/Pink/Purple. Then, set up 3 colonies on each planet and max out their production speeds, and place down a Spice Storage. If you start with one star system, then you can just fly from planet to planet, and each time you do, you should earn 1 spice. Alternatively, you could leave it for a while and come back and collect 90-120 spice at once. Then, find the highest bidder - Pink spice can go up to 60k a piece at my recollection. One fly through of 3 systems at once can earn you millions, easily. Then, buying a star system is easy-peasy.2009-11-04 01:46:00

Yeah, but that doesn't get me past tribal phase where I try to be friendly, but all of the other tribes are agressive and attack me simultaneously... Seriously the social side sucks. If you are agressive, then you can have a bash at being social and if that fails, annihilate. If you are social, you can only win over social groups, the aggressive ones will just batter you.

Once you get to space your leaning becomes a little moot anyway. I had a few strong alliances, more spice than I could possibly collect and I could crush anyone who opposed me.

Tomb Raider: Underworld... glitchy, annoying POS though it had major potential... wasted $60 on day one

Deus Ex 2 : Invisible War. ... seriously wtf?

How about the nintendo wii as a whole?

burnout paradise.
oh. thats right. i said it.
i dont care if everyone else thought it was an amazing game, i hated it.
it was fun for the first day or two. thats it.
far too repetitive for me. and too hard. seriously, all the races are the same.

you start a race, get a good lead, youre crushing, just cruisin along. then BAM you make a wrong turn. the map is too small >:U then you have to spend five minutes on the pause / map screen, looking for the best route to get back on track. a few minutes later, you get back in the race. but now youre in dead last. theres no way to catch up. you lose.
and if youre good at not making wrong turns, youre just going to end up getting sick of the same 15 races over and over.

but wait, you say?! there are different kinds of races?!
... theyre all basically the same thing. you think youre doing good, then one slip up, and youre done. they should block off the roads like they did before. maybe not those big light arrow things in the old games, but at least traffic cones or something.

the cars are kinda cool, but i hate the way you get them all junked up. its like "HOLY CRAP, THIS CAR IS INSANE! IMA DRIVE IT RIGHT NOW!!!". then, you get it and its just like... wow, piece of crap. you have to drive like across the map to a gas station or whatever and get a repair. waste of time. so is the start up menu. i dont want to be connected to the playstation store every time i play the game.

and honestly. NO MULTIPLAYER. what a horrible move. all the other burn outs had it. that was like one of the main reasons i bought them. i don't even know what else to say about this part. that was just... stupid. plain stupid.

all in all, i give this game a 3 / 10. sure, its fun, but it has a lot of slight annoyances, and they all just add up. its also doesnt keep your attention for a very long time, too much of the same thing.

The moment i stepped out of the vault and saw the world for the first time i was wondering what the hell happened to the rubbishy graphics - the ps3 version of that game has no anti-aliasing at all, it gives me a headache trying to work out what things are.

Once i was standing near a metal fence with some ruins. Shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary right?
There was so many pixels flashing about in that one scene i'm suprised i could tell where i was walking!

I've actually forced myself to play quite far into the game (past the brotherhoods fortress thing) and i still couldn't find anything enjoyable about it. It's just a repetitive fps where you never have any ammunition, graphics that give you a headache and the colour spectrum has been reduced to different shades of brown.

rtm, I managed to get through the tribal stage by friendliness, all you've got to do is create maybe 1 army unit as a defence, then go on the "Friendliness offence" of just loading up everyone with musical instruments and bringing a gift with you

EDIT: Dex, I have it on very hard mode and am loaded with all types of ammunition and a store room with all types of guns. I still have to keep buying in more, though, because big enemies take a lot to take down, but when you're loaded with a Fat Man, a Gatling Laser, Scoped .44 Magnum, A-321's Plasma Rifle, and a Mesmetron, possibly a few Nuka-Grenades. Oh and a Rock-it launcher, and a nice Railway Rifle, you're set. I can't believe I missed out on the Alien Rifle, what is it, the Firebrand? I saw the ship crash, but couldn't find it for the life of me, and next time I visited the area, I found 22 Alien Power Cells...but no rifle D:

* The Final Fantasy series after part IX, I can't deal with crappy voice acting sorry.

* Rayman 3: hoodlum havoc. Throws away everything what made the series good in the first place.

* Spore: see comments above

* Ghostbusters: who knew catching ghost could be plain annoying?

* Escape from Monkey Island: never saw a series be destroyed like that. Luckily they fixed it with the sequel.

* Fable II: Molyneux overhyped it as usual, I fel for it once more.

What? As I recall you can't interact like that with the redface "I'll fight you if you even come near" people? It's fine with the orange "needs a bit of convincing people", but not the redfaces, right? Plus, by the time I could afford gifts and instruments, I was busy being ravaged by two tribes at the same time.2009-11-04 12:23:00

Could well be that the subtleties of diplomacy were beyond me All I know is that my "play nice" attempt on the hardest setting just dumped me in tribal with what seemed like impossible odds. I very much felt that the balance was wrong between the different paths though, which for me was the final nail in the coffin on that game.2009-11-04 12:30:00

I think CoD 4 was the most disappointing game I've played; I mean after all the hype I would've thought it'd be better than W:ET but clearly not

Game I didn't buy butthat disappointed me was ****ation. Really wanted a 3rd person shooters with loads of climbing and steampunk fiction but it came out as a mess.

Final Fantasy 8. After playing 7, this game was a complete letdown for me.

That Sonic RPG for the Gameboy Advance. From the way they hyped this, I thought this would be exactly like Super Mario RPG. It was not.

Seaman - This was a voice activated game for the sega dreamcast where you had to babysit a stupid man-fish. Only problem? The thing didn't understand what I was saying. I would say "I love you" to it, and it would say "do you kiss your mother with that mouth. I hate you too" ... So, yeah. Only game I ever returned whilst crying.

Samba De Amigo for the Wii - Not even close to as responsive as the original dreamcast version. Sitting on my shelf collecting dust.

Katamari for the XBox360 - We Love Katamari is one of my favorite games of all time. This game was terrible.

Seaman

I played that game once. Good lord.

OK Let me think of some more...

Bubsy 3D For playstation / Sega Saturn ... while the game maybe wasn't god awful, it wasn't anywhere near as cool as the 16-bit entries... I remember being insanely excited when I first saw ads for it.

Super Paper Mario for the Wii. Paper Mario on the N64 is one of the coolest entries on the system, the one on the wii was really boring save for a few moments...

Metal Gear Solid 2 (YOU HEARD RIGHT) ... The game was @!$$ing boring. It had it's moments but it has like 2 hours of gameplay. The story is totally uninteresting IMO compared to the rest of the series.

Stunt Race FX for the SNES ... sort of. I remember being amazed by this because of it's "3D" graphics and had some amount of fun with it... coming back to it later, I realized it was horrible as a racing game and you could hardly see 10 feet in front of you.

- Resistance: Fall of Man (the biggest pile of crap ever.)

- Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (SO many good reviews and it sucked SO much.)

- Farcry 2 (way too repetitive and boring.)

- LittleBigPlanet (sure, it's AMAZING but I was just so hyped for it I knew it'd be impossible for it to be as good as I imagined.)

- Metal Gear Solid 4 (I honestly do not see what all the hype was about, this game was way too overrated IMO.)

- Mirror's Edge (it was good, but SO frustrating and unpolished.)

- Spiderman 3 (HUGE disappointment due to how good the second was.)

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. What was hailed as one of PS2's crowning achievements actually featured what were possibly the most user-unfriendly controls and the most retarded camera system ever. Slow, boring, frustrating...what a load of total, utter pants!

I bought MGS3 alongside MGS4 a while back, as it was only ?6 and I wanted to catch up on the series before playing the latest installment, but after half a day of spitting venom at my TV I quit playing MGS3 and never found the willpower to even try MGS4. It's gathering dust on my shelf now and the disc will probably never be taken out of the box. What a waste of money!

ROTFLMAO, I don't mean to laugh but LOL anyway, enough with the texting...um , text.

GTA IV, It wasn't a bad game, but after San Andreas...well I was sad most of the time I played it. Also I hated that you have to hold down a button to run. Why not make movement stick sensitive. I popped in GTA IV yesterday and took it out like 5 minutes later.

@ungreth: no no no no, you have to play MGS4. I never played the other ones but I really enjoyed 4. But it has some of the longest cutscenes in video game history.

SR2 was like a day out at the world's biggest amusement park, while any fun to be found in GTA4 was more comparable to being stuck in a 5 mile tail back on the M54 with Peter Andre and Jordan arguing in the back seat.

The game that disappointed me was Mass Effect.

Great effort to be sure, but a lot of what they advertised in the game (i.e. making definitive choices) wasn't there. I also can't say I liked travelling the mostly empty planets. I was looking forward to travelling a few cities and learning about different cultures.

It had some great moments though: The Finding Liara mission, the mission where you had to help these Alliance marines fight off the hoard of insect like Aliens. Also, it had some great music.

Overall for me though, based upon what they advertised would be in the game, I was disappointed.

I definitely can agree to the disappointment in recent sonic releases. My favorite Sonic game was Sonic Adventures on Dreamcast. I used to play that game through all the time especially with knuckles. My favorite level was the "Lost World."

I played a sonic game on the ps3 a year ago when I first got it and it was terrible. It makes me sad. :-( I don't have my dreamcast anymore so I can't play Sonic Adventures.

I agree a million times to new Sonic games. The last good Sonic game was Adventure 2 (Battle). I tried playing Heroes, and it sucked. I tried playing Shadow the Hedgehog, and I just couldn't do it (though I did preorder it and got a cool hat ). I haven't even tried any of the new ones, like Sonic 2006 or Unleashed. I just don't want to. Nothing can beat SA2(B).

Also, Smash Bros Brawl. The addition of Sonic and Snake kinda ruined it for me. And it just wasn't as good as Melee.

And don't forget Batman: Arkham Asylum. It was too short and once you beat it, all that's left are Riddler puzzles. Without maps, they're tedious. With maps, they're tedious but in 1/8 of the time.

Just played L4D 2 demo and not really impressed. Melee weapons are too clunky and are much worse than pistols. Also the gameplay seems exactly the same as the first; the extra zombie types don't really do anything unique.2009-11-08 18:13:00

TWILIGHT!

PRINCESS!

I bet it's hard to make a game in the best series ever, but they didn't try ANYTHING new besides a few new uses for items. The Wolf parts were dreadful, good thing you almost never use the wolf after the three Twilight sections at the beginning.

I liked Windwaker's exploration. People say it was empty but there were islands EVREWHARE!

I thought it was fun!

Except the horrible part at the end where you had to collect all those Triforce shards. Who the **** thought that was a good idea?!?

Other than that, Half Life 2. I got it expecting what everyone told me, "the best FPS in history". What I got was just another mediocre linear shooter.

Well, it kinda depends when you played it. Back in 2004, it was quite the experience. It did a lot of things that hadn't really been done in games before, (realistic and detailed facial animations, good use of a well-implemented physics engine [the only time havok physics was used properly, in my opinion.], highly detailed visuals, etc.) and it did them pretty well. Now they've been done to death in a thousand new games that they've all lost the awesomeness they once had.

I dunno why you're complaining about it being linear, though. Open-ended gameplay isn't really something you should expect from a Half-Life game. All of them are very straightforward (save for some parts of Episode 2.)

HEY KIDS I HAVE MORE GAMEZ:

Turok (Xbox 360) - fffffff JESUS this game SUCKS. On top of being bland and boring, the developers somehow managed to screw up one of the simplest things about an FPS: THE CONTROLS. Jesus. It's impossible to aim at ANYTHING because of how screwed up the aiming is.

Dead Rising (Xbox 360) - Good god. Capcom somehow managed to take the perfect idea and completely drop the ball. Killing zombies is fun for about two seconds, the bossfights are excruciatingly cheap, I'm not going to talk about the survivors because that subject's a dead horse, The difficulty curve is insane until you reach the level cap, and the story progression, on top of being unconventional, is just stupid (you have to be HERE at THIS specific moment in time or you LOSE.)

You should have gotten MGS3: Subsistence, that one had better controls, plus a bonus disk with the MSX games that started the series.

As for being slow, that's the point! What I like best about the whole stealth thing is that it's not about crazy shooting action, but about biding your time, setting up, waiting for the right moment to strike.

Spore.

Quite simply the longest hype I've ever had for a game that wasn't a sequel (like a year and a half, maybe more), and it just had so much potential. Very sad times.

I think that's the only time I've ever been truly disappointed by a game actually.

Exactly what I was thinking thanks rtm

Silent Hill: Homecoming.

Having no option to invert the vertical camera axis killed this game for me. I suspect that the development team were actually a family of Mongolian tree frogs, since I can see no other reason for them not to provide such a simple option that's included in almost every other game these days. And please don't tell me I'll get used to it if I keep trying. It's like telling a right handed person to write with their left hand...it may be possible, but the result would be a shabby mess.
