re-publishing level?

Archive: 4 posts

Since I have never published an unlocked level until now, I was wanting to know how to make changes to level without resetting scoreboard, etc . . .

I was wondering do I make the changes to the version I have on my moon and then publish over my unlocked one? Or do I have to copy the unlocked one to my moon to make the changes then republish?

I'm wondering because I don't know how the play count, rating, scores, etc works. Will they always be there even if I edit the moon version (the version before I published it), or must I copy the played one to moon for any changes?

this is exactly correct. You don't have to copy over the server-side level, you can keep working on the same old one you've had on your moon since forever.

Hell, it's actually quite exploitable. If you had a blockbuster level, you could create a little crap level and overwrite your blockbuster. It would KEEP all your hearts/plays/stats for the level, even though you're completely changing it!

Most people don't do this however, but this is how it works.

EDIT: By the way, might I say congrats on your first open publish. For me, hitting that "publish" button is a horrifically nervous affair. Most of my bug-testing happens in those first plays in an open publish, since I usually don't do a locked-level closed beta test. I should - but I usually don't, instead "unsheathing" the level all at once. Surely a big reason to do with why I'll probably always have a 4-star career and never a 5.

Thanks!

Someone also said if I mess with race gate or score bubbles for the changes, then it will reset score, but that's all I have to avoid if I want scores to stay.

The level I made was just a simple one I made in one night just to have something playable until I publish my bigger stuff I've been working on for a while now.

So this level isn't anything amazing, but for a rushed level it isn't horrible. Just a simple race/score challenge.

Sorry, off topic, I didn't think it was worth posting a level showcase thread, but I might anyways.

Why not? Showcase levels don't all have to be epic affairs that make it into the "cool levels" sub-forum. Here's my favorite thing about the showcase - there's automatically a link under your username to a list of all your showcase levels, and then each showcase thread you create has an automatic link to that same list. that's the real prize - your showcase threads automatically assemble into a personal "level-ography" that anyone can look through.

So the question is, do you want this current level to be a part of your LBP "oeuvre"? If you want it to be listed in your "career" or "levelography" alongside your bigger upcoming stuff, I'd go ahead and make the showcase.
