Soundless Death

Archive: 6 posts

I finished my level Carboard Adventure, and will publish it as soon as I've done some testing with it..

Anyway, I'm started on a new level, which I would like to be very much without ambient sounds (Burning Fire, Bugs around Poison and/or Lightning, etc.), so I'm looking for another way of killing my/your sackboy when he falls into a Pit of Doom..

I've thought of making a sensor switch, only detecting on a horizontal line, making a piston with a piece of metal, slam into a wall with sackboy in the middle.. But I'm not sure if this is the way I want to use, as I want it to be very dark with the kill, as it's a pretty monotone level. I could of course just use the Global Lightning Tool, and make it shift to 100% Darkness in 0.1 seconds, but that would really be to.. Boring.. I could do it, but I'd like to know about some other methods, before using this one..

Thanks in advance :3

The only way to make it dark would be to use a global tool, unless you make the whole level dark and light up the rest of it with loads of lights and stuff, however, that uses thermo space. If you have mgs pack, then the alert sound, mixed with spikes and an emiter can make a cool effect2009-11-02 21:18:00

I don't have any paid dlc .
But I suppose I'll just go at the piston and global then.. I haven't had problems with the thermo yet..

The plasma balls are not very noisy, as I recall. But again, you'd need the MGS pack (which is totally worth it).2009-11-03 12:44:00

Doesn't gas have nearly no sound when made really really thin?

I made a "bottomless pit" concept for some caves whereby if sackboy fell from the platforms it would fade to black over (approx) 2 seconds. Then he hits gas in the dark and. The gas was offscreen when in the normal playing area so you can't hear it and when you fall I don't think it is noticible.

Bear in mind that none of the deaths are without sound, though.
