Pet Peeves

Little Big Planet is a great game, but at the same time, it has many annoyances.

Please list what annoys you mostly in LBP (Do NOT list people or people's levels, anything offensive, or anything of that sort.):

-Invisible barriers, I'd rather a creator place a natural or normal barrier than a barrier of invisible dark matter.

-No backgrounds, I think backgrounds add great depth to a level, and that they should always be there.

-Lazy levels, I dislike the levels that are on the Cool Levels, yet are lazy and do not deserve such a high space. Challenge and bomb levels are fine, as long as the creator put decent time and their good work into it.

-Bad Glitches, glitches and bugs are nice, as long as they don't corrupt your data or do any damage.

I realize that there is a thread that is slightly similar to this thread, however, it is old and somewhat different than this one.

- Random Objects on Fire. First sign of incompetence. Do you really need to set fire to an object that can already kill you? No, that's just silly.

- Popular "Glitch" Levels. Boring, empty glitch levels exploiting useless glitches are boring. When the get +20,000 plays, however, they're more annoying than boring. I might as well just place a random object in the uber-teenth layer just so I can get thousands of plays!

- Over-Used Ideas. Bomb levels, challenge levels, rollercoaster levels... yeah, they get pretty annoying after about the millionth time I run into one.

- Copied Levels. More like "pirated" or "stolen". People spent HOURS making their pieces of work and then all of a sudden *BAM!*, a copy with 1 little change in it gets all of the glory! Grraaggghh ! Makes me boil just thinking about it...

Levels that lie and exploit players excitment/curiosity - "Real Water", "Nariko Code" "PSN Gift Certificate codes" those kind of predatory, mean spirited types of levels really tick me off.2009-11-02 07:16:00

- Long, unplayable intro scenes
- Text/Story (not really peeve, but completely wasted on me. I just want swing, jump, grab, run.)

For me, most of my pet peeves are create mode issues. Lots and lots of little things.

I HATE trying to select the little tiny cable-end from a switch, and then accidentally clicking on the item behind it, which is sometimes the entire level glued together.

Similar to above, I hate accidentally selecting a MASSIVE collection of objects, usually the base of a level, while having the left stick held down, which always causes some tiny bit of movement in the selected level, forcing you to rewind.

Having to glue dark matter to every little thing you want to be solid. The PSP version is doing away with dark matter, and I would LOVE to see this implemented in the PS3 version.

Again, related to above - stray pieces of invisible dark matter. They can be absolute killers.

I hate not being able to zoom in and out while moving a switch cable. Sometimes I have to zoom in to be able to find the cable end, and I have to move it all the way across the level. So you have to zoom in, place the cursor over it, THEN zoom out and select it to be able to move it with a modicum of speed across great distances. Grrrr...

And finally, scrolling up and down the sticker list.
Mostly down.
Almost always down.

My biggest pet peeve is long stories with cutscene cameras on every text bubble so you can't skip them. I played someone's RPG style level a long time ago, and every step you encountered an NPC character that had like 8 lines of dialogue that was unskippable. It was pretty terrible. I've had cutscene cameras throw me out of pits before, too.

I don't mind a story, but if it interrupts gameplay too much, I'll quit a level immediately.

Well, idk if anybodys said this yet.... only read the first page, but my greatest pet peeve in ALL of lbp is the profile size. its so small, ive got more levels published than there are on my moon cuz i cant keep them all... it needs to be bigger or include harddrive savability.2009-11-02 13:44:00

THIS!!

And off course, the PS3 freezing when you are playing the game.
I probably already lost one ps3 because of that, I don't want to lose another one!!

* Lag
* Too many textbubbles in levels

* "profile is full"-message
* Overused idea's (coasters, bomb-survival, ...)
* Not able to save pod decoration
* Grid function not working properly
* Sticker-bug
* "breaking" sound in creation mode not knowing where it comes from
* Random crashing

Don't get me wrong, i LOVE this game!

Lol, I wanted to create a thread on Pet peeves awhile ago but never got the chance.

Anyways, I hate it when I see Huge chunks of dark matter on people's levels, the tiniest piece of dark matter could do the same as a huge one. (looking at you jump_ ... nvm)

When people copy other people levels and give no credit to the original author. (lil-kl....)

When people clearly don't test their levels enough.

When I see objects on people's levels that were already made by MM.

When creators don't use backgrounds, seriously a background IMO is one of the most important parts in a level, the way they enhance the look of the materials is amazing.

All that is there + also the fact cannot decide to lock yourself on a layer. I mean, it would be some awesome to be able to select something that is already being something else. I HATE to desconstruct the part of a level just to go ajust or add something behind.

- when you can hear a breaking noise in create and you dont know what it is
- Level break glitch (this is a glitch I got which caused all of the main platforms in the level, as they were one piece, to no longer be solid meaning everything fell to the bottom of the level)
- Online lag
- The tiny save size
- Always getting stuck with the little 8 year old noobs on quick play (no offence to anyone) although I do enjoy winding them up.

Entire lines of chat or magic mouths being censored, without warning, because you wrote something like "Computer" or "Happened".
Being unable to connect, or suffer from extreme lag, when joining someone else.
Having zero control on uploaded pictures on your levels.
Being forced to rate a level each and every single time I play it, even though it will only count once.
Emitters firing in Paused mode after rewinding.
Not having any indestructible material that is lighter than wood.

Emitters firing in Paused mode after rewinding.

Oh my god, this is one that truly ****** me off. Can't believe I didn't think about it when I posted. And this bug wasn't always there, it's there since X update last summer. It's really NOT cool to have a pause mode that isn't exactly "pause" afterall.

The switch thing is annoying when dealing with big areas in a level, when you add about 100 pr

but my greatest pet peeve in ALL of lbp is the profile size.

Your profile can not be saved because it is too full. try deleting unwanted...

They happen to me all the time

Still this game is epic, gotta love lbp

Actually, I think it's been there since the Beta. I remember I had to deal with it for the boss in my beta level.

As near as I can tell, there are two ways this happens :
1) Playing around with the emitter's "Sync" setting.
2) Hooking up (or unhooking) a switch to the emitter.

Sometimes copying/capturing an object that has emitters will either cause the problem or fix it. It seems completely random and annoying. I'm forced to put peach floaty or score bubbles near every emitter if I don't want to have projectiles flying all over the place and multiplying.

I know I'm not supposed to say people but... people that give 1 star on levels because
a) They died once
b) They can't ace it (points at subterranean setbacks)
c) They are jealous
d) The level isn't bomb survival/ramp/BMX FREE STYLE/WATER AT THE END/OMG GROWND IZ FAAALIN!
e) They = Fail

+ Everything else everyone said

Ooooh and the wire zooming scenario is reallyyyy annoying!

This has been KILLING ME in my halloween level. KILLING ME. I'll be in pause mode, and suddenly, somehow my thermometer will jump over a notch into overheat.

the only way to fix it it is to go into play mode and just WAIT for a while. This can be a massive problem if, like in my halloween level, you're emitting the opening checkpoint with a limited lifespan. I've had to re-create that checkpoint every single time I've wanted to make a single tweak to ANYTHING.

And I agree, not being able to edit THROUGH objects. If we can just lock onto a single layer as you said, with all fg layers in front of it being either invisible or translucent, this would elminate a lot of headaches.

So, in other words: Carving holes in objects just to be able to edit/tweak stuff behind them. Definitely a pet peeve.

Well it's an amazing level, all the troubles you went through seem to have paid off because the final product great.

Thank you! I rarely have an easy time in create mode, it's usually a drawn-out battle with me to get a level created.

I want to second/third/fourth the random 'CRACK' sound mentioned earlier. There HAS to be a way to reveal what just broke! Just a little dialogue bubble with a "!" pointing to the source of the breakage. In other words...

Pet peeve: Combing every inch of your level while alternately rewinding and playing to see what just broke. GRRRRR...

I'd think it to be much worse if the object broke without any sound, of which you will only find out later that something could have gone horribly wrong...

I hate it when I spend a month making a level only for it to get 10 plays and 2 stars while " CLUCKY OMG TEH GROUND AM FALLING H4H HEART ME NOW CLUKCY GROUND FALLING BOMB SURVIVAL" gets a million plays and 5 stars and a million hearts when it's the same level with a different name and different colors of walls.

LBP is great, but the community fails ...

The 'Your profile cannot be saved message'. Honestly, couldn't it have just dropped down from the top of the screen so it is easily dismissable?
Oh yes. And Jeriko. You know who I'm talking about.

I just got reminded of something I hate. Whenever you unpause, your level jolts slightly as the physics get re-enabled. You won't notice it normally but if you make a tower of tiny 2x2 boxes then pause and un pause, the whole tower will jump up and down a little.

Now, imagine pausing and unpausing and pausing and unpausing really fast in quick succession, like you sometimes do, then the game will slowly misalign (if not just knock down) things that you have meticulously balenced.

I found that a lot on my 2026 level with the collapsing platforms made of tiny bits of cardboard.
