Question about Oblivion

Archive: 14 posts

I know that in order to level up, you have to level your skills. Is it just major skills? Or do minor skills count towards the level up thing.

Also this is my first time playing the game and i'm unsure if i picked the best combination that suits my general playstyle. If anyone here has played World Of Warcraft I was thinking along the lines of the Rogue class. For anyone who hasn't it is an agile, stealthy class with a high damage rate. Could anyone give me pointers as to how to achieve this? I'm only 8 or so hours into the game so it's not that big of a deal restarting.

Thanks for any help

Yes every stat increase should go towards your level increasing.

edit: nvm, it seems like i've been spending time leveling up the wrong stuff lol, sorry.

Ah, a quick stealthy type are you? Me too! :arg:

I played as a Khajit in the Assassin Dark Brotherhood Guild... woah... that just reminded how fun it was. I'll be playing Oblivion today; thanks for reminding me!

EDIT: Oops, I got so distracted by the thought of playing that I completely forgot what I was going to say... if one of your acrobatic is one of your skills: jump EVERYWHERE. Trust me, you level up really fast and you don't even notice that you are doing it. Also, if you want to be good at stealth, be in sneak node a lot when you don't have to travel large distances as it is very slow. I hope that helps!

Only major skills go topwards it, although whatever skills you level up contribute towards your attribute levelling.

EDIT : For magic, complete the Mages Guild quests, use the Arcane University and make your own spells.. Make a spell that uses barely any magicka, and cast it over and over again for quick leveling.. And also hold Defend while you're doing it.. Makes you cast quicker somehow.

Yeah go with a assassin for your sign and you get this chamelion spell, now if you have not left the prison yet than finish that get to the point where you are about to exit into the world and save the game there. Than you can always start a game from the part because you can change your race, sign and so on from that point.
Really anything really works to set up your character, you can really choose anything to raise up your skills. Also I would pick some magic, illusion I think, using chamelion is great for sneaking, also unfair sometimes but it is fun. Pick Light armor also.

If you wanna get through the game easily, there are a few things you can do ;

- Turn the difficulty slide all the way to the left side.
- Choose 7 skills as your majors that you'll never use. If you level up your magic / sneaking / melee as minor skills, you'll be incredibly powerful against enemies, as their strength corresponds to your combat level

Yep this works also. But make sure you don't put a spell as a minor because it is hard to get up your spell uses if they are minor. You pretty much have to pay to learn them to get to a level you can use good spells.
sneaking would be smart to put minor, only reason is because you can do it and it will get better. Acrobatics is smart one also because it will raise, but weapons and armor also as minor because they go up no matter what.

Yeah but also this sounds good and most likely works well but I do suggest to put spells up on the Major skills, and go wizard. If you put spells as minor they are hard to move up. So yes he is right but I would suggest to put your spells you would use or not up on major skills only because those are hard to move up when you put them as minor. Just a suggestion. I can't tell you what to use because it is up too you and what you find is easy. What Miffy is talking about is true, but light armor, sword, all these skills on the bottom that you will use and will go up without too much thought.
