I've recently come across a rather unsettling bug. Several textures in my levels would show up completely black, as if I had put a black sticker over them. Attempting to delete the sticker didn't work though, because there was no sticker there. However if I put a small sticker onto the object, the black parts would suddenly "remember" what color they were supposed to be. The black texture wasn't limited to materials alone. I noticed all of the music boxes turned black and even parts of the background were black. On a hunch I attempted a random level on Cool Pages and it too had some random black textures that "disappeared" when a sticker was put onto them. After resetting my pod, deleting 4 pictures, 3 costumes and restarting the game, things seem to have gone back to normal. I can only assume that this "black texture bug" is perhaps a sign that I might be running out of profile space. Has anyone else come across this bug?

I've come across this bug before, and it fixed itself without me doing anything. I don't however know what causes it =/

hmm never heard of this bug perhaps you are right might be cause you are running out of profile space

hmm... this is a quite suspicious graphical bug. This can't really be related to your profile space though. It can be a memory thing and also simply a texture bug. However, since this bug sounds pretty new it could also be your hardware that is getting some wear. Pay attention of your PS3 in the next couple of weeks and try to see if there's new graphical bugs you would start seeing regularly and maybe in other games too. This COULD be a sign your PS3 is slowly running out. (even if it's rare the PS3 GPUs are frying) .

I remember someone else had a graphical issue where small screenshots would plaster themselves around things like their Moon and the walls of their level. Do you have any minor graphical problems with other games?

Well, I don't really play anything other than LBP for the time being, and this is the first time I've had such a graphical bug. A memory leak might be possible since I had been playing around in Create Mode all day (including multiple republishing of locked levels). This would also have been fixed on restarting the game. I sincerely hope it's not a hardware problem though.

Well, I don't really play anything other than LBP for the time being, and this is the first time I've had such a graphical bug. I sincerely hope it's not a hardware problem though. Ok I see. Well, by playing this long it can either be a memory problem or a hardware problem. Do you remember if your PS3 fan was at maximum speed in the end?? .

Unfortunately I don't remember. The fan speed varies periodically and I try to see if there's any accumulations of dust whenever I hear it go into the maximum speed. On checking it, there doesn't seem to be a spec of dust on the thing right now. I assume that a heat problem wouldn't have been fixed by simply stopping the game though.

Did your costume in LBP happen to have a really big black sticker on it? I don't know if that would be the problem, just taking a guess.

I've had this several times too, I also get a variation on this alot.. I used alot of the dirt stickers on a wall and some corners would go unstickered, I tried to sticker them but nothing happens, also if I try to cut the part of the unstickered part moves to the new corner.. pretty annoying since my level uses the dirt stickers alot :

This happened to me like 2 weeks ago, when I was working on my next level. At the same moment, I had a profile data save problem message... After deleting some stuff (pictures, costume...), nothing changed, some part of the level were still black. So I quit the game and restarted the PS3...and everything came back to normal! I didn't had any other problems since then... So I don't know what's the cause, but as RangerZero said, it's certainly an occasional memory or hardware problem... EDIT : Here are 2 pictures I took when it happened : http://images.gamekult.com/blog/imgdb/000/000/422/750_2.jpg http://images.gamekult.com/blog/imgdb/000/000/422/761_2.jpg I tried to change the materials, put or remove stickers, lethalize, etc... nothing changed... I even tried to make a new copy of the level, but the bug was still here. It came back to normal after restarting the PS3 :eek:

Ok so since it's happening to multiple people, that chances that it is a PS3 problems are getting slimmer. I suppose all of you guys aren't with dying PS3 so it must be a bug that has been introduced at some point or was already there bug got more frequent after X update. Oh well, one more to the long list. .

Yea, i don't think its the PS3 dying. especially as i had this bug over 4 months ago, and still have a fine working machine.

I had all the completion pies (pie chart of how many objects I had collected) in story mode turn up as black squares. You could still see a triangle cutout, but the circle was just a black square. If this is the same, it's not just related to stickers.
