My PS3 Died Today

Archive: 15 posts

As the title states, my PS3 died today, while playing Ratchet & Clank ACIT. I tried pumping the heart several times but to no avail. I called Sony to report the death, and they will be sending the casket within the next week.

We had many fond memories together. From creating LBP levels to blowing my mind with MGS4 and Uncharted 2. We had many laughs and many tears (well, maybe a couple tears) while watching crystal clear blu-ray movies. It's because of my 80gig PS3 that I met so many cool gamers, downloaded many awesome games like Quest for Booty, and listened to my favorite songs streaming over the internet while my friends were visiting my home. I told MrsPowershifter that my PS3 died today. She was relieved to hear it was my PS3 and not a member of the family, but I must confess, it was a member of the family. I felt like we had many years left together and our time was cut short. There is a slight chance that the Sony doctors can revive you, but I have a feeling you went down swinging and you're not getting back up. May you rest in peace, my friend.

You will be missed.

-----------------------------------------------------

On a more pleasant note, I shouldn't lose anything. I'm taking my HD out and backing it up on an external. Plus, even if that doesn't work, I do have a published/locked back up of my current LBP level that I was working on. And, Sony said they could definitely get my game back that's stuck inside. So hopefully within a month or so I'll be back in business. And who knows, maybe by the time I get my PS3 back (or a PS3) the water pack will be out Until then, I guess it's time to hook my PS2 up and play some classics that I never got around to finishing (Legend of Dragoon; Chrono Trigger; Star Ocean Till The End of Time; Jak 3; and others).

I'll still be around LBPC

Theres a topic on the official forums with over 500 failed consoles listed roughly 80% are 60gb.

I have to say that I take extremely good care of my electronics. It didn't have a scratch on it, and never showed any signs of problems. I always turned it off after I was done playing, so it was never left running all day.

I was playing Ratchet, and jumped up in the air and all the sudden the screen went black and I saw that the PS3 had a blinking red light. I thought maybe it just overheated - which shouldn't be the problem because it sits in an open area. Unfortunately I seem to be one of the unlucky ones. 500 failed consoles seems like a drop in the bucket when you consider the millions that have been made.

Back up your stuff no matter what model you own - especially if you don't have the capability of backing up your HD after the system fails.

500 is not the grand total of all failed consoles its just the ones posted on one thread.

The official failure rate is 0.5% (or 1 in 200) which on rough sales of 25.74 million per vg chartz is 128700 dead consoles.

I feel your pain dude, I also had my PS3 broke a little while ago and I also took very good care of it.
You kinda wonder why you took good care of it in the first place, don't ya?

It's all luck in the end I guess.

Yeah definitely. I've never had a system fail on me until now (I don't own a 360 in case you wondered). It's very disappointing to be one of the unlucky few, but at least Sony has been very helpful, cooperative and fast about fixing it. I still say they should wave the $149 fee, or at least give a good discount, if they see that it's in perfect condition. Anyway, thanks for the condolences
