The 4th Kind

Archive: 15 posts

Has anyone heard about this movie? If not, here's basically what I understand about the movie.

Basic summary and a weird story (It's quite long):
The 4th Kind is a movie based on a heap of supposed alien abductions that took place in Nome, Alaska a few years ago (exact date forgotten ^^; ). At the start, a few different people go to see a therapist, claiming to be waking up in the middle of the night for no particular reason, though they do all claim to have seen the same white owl with "big eyes" (Don't all owls have big eyes?). Apparently, the stuff hit the fan shortly after this because suddenly there's all kinds of alien activity going on (allegedly) around town, from sightings to actual abductions; hence the title, which refers to the 4th kind of alien encounter (the four kinds are sighting, evidence, contact, and abduction, as explained by the commercial).

Anyway, after I saw the commercial for this movie, I was pretty freaked out. I'm not sure why. At one point, you hear a woman's voice saying "Something came into my room... and took me! [away?]" while showing a clip of a door opening slowly. Also, during the explanations of the different kinds of alien encounters (this was a very long commercial, yo) they played all sorts of disturbing stuff. For example, during the fourth kind (abduction) there were several shots of people levitating and shaking violently and screaming. Apparently that's how it goes. *shrugs*

But what really weirded me out was the fact that, during one of the scenes (I don't remember when it was exactly) a clock was shown reading 3.33. I assume that's when the people were waking up in the middle of the night and seeing the large-eyed owl, or when the abductions actually took place. Anyway, that's not so weird, right? It's just a clock. Well, that night, I woke up at 3.30 for no particular reason. That's right, for no reason. I just woke up, saw the clock, and got pretty scared, thinking the aliens were going to get me next. (Hey, you would, too!)

Needless to say, it was a really well-done commercial to be that ingrained into my subconscious that I actually woke up at 3.30. Also needless to say, I won't be seeing this movie. But, will anyone else? I think it looks pretty interesting, since they have "actual" footage from the time when all this stuff happened, or so they claim. They also have what I think is actual interview footage from the victims of this stuff. It might have been dramatized, I don't remember. I think I'll just look it up on Wikipedia or something.

Discuss.

OMG the same thing happened to me! I saw the 4th kind trailer one day, and I was kinda scared after seeing it. That night I woke up at around 3:30 just like you!

The film does look pretty creepy, especially the owl thing. I also doubt I will see this movie because once I see horror films, I can't get them out of my head.

Weird stuff, man. I'm not sure what I think about the owl, though... I mean, they all have big eyes... If it had small eyes, that would be something, no? 2009-10-31 17:32:00

Terrified after watching the trailer a few months back as well. And I'm 25 years old!!!

Won't be seeing it due to my unnaturally extreme fear of aliens. Yikes. Am stoked about the remake of "V" starting tonight though...

Ever see Fire in the Sky?

That movie'll put the fear of aliens into you!

And you think my fear originates from some other source?! Unlikely. Fire in the Sky is undoubtedly the reason it took me so long to sit down and watch Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Man, whatever happened to D.B. Sweeney; that dude was killer in The Cutting Edge!

I saw Fire in the Sky once it hit HBO and was never the same. Still spooks me to date.

Ok guys...it is out now...so I am going to see it tonight...if you don't hear back from me then that means those aliens got me. This movie really creeps me out since me and a friend are haunted by the number 333. Weird things happen when this number pops up and now it's in this movie...crazy. Well, wish me luck.2009-11-07 00:50:00

I think the owl symbolized the big eyed little green men alien 'stereotype'.

I think I saw a preview were the eyes opened a little more, it looked like ...

Ok guys...I survived. It was a pretty creepy movie. I would guess if you don't believe in any of this stuff, it won't be creepy to you. But the evidence they show is actually quite impressive. If the stuff they showed as being real was real, then I must admit there were some creepy things that are not easily explained. I think this was much better than Paranormal Activity because Paranormal Activity tried to pass off as a documentary, but this actually was in a sense. They had real recordings and video from the events that happened. Overall I think it was a pretty good movie. You could see it in theatres if you want, but I would wait and watch it with a small group of friends with all the lights off at home; it would make it much creepier.2009-11-07 21:51:00
