Our day with Mm...

Archive: 36 posts

Not going to say much because on iPod and it's rubbish. Will add to it when I get home

Meeting everyone = amazing! Had some good fun with grant and wex

Lbp psp is going to be awesome.create mode is fantastic. All the features are there, it takes a little getting used to at first but you soon get into the swing of things

Meeting the molecules was an absolute delight and it was great to sit down and have a chat with them about various stuff. We got some amazing insight from Alex and learnt some real interesting stuff. Between us all we should be able to get all the info back to you guys (that we're allowed of course), but there's that much it's just melded into one awesome day at the minute and remembering individual things is tricky!

A few of us were lucky enough to go out for a meal with them all after the expo. Let's jus say theyre more forthcoming with secrets when plied with alcohol haha

Amazing day over all. Will add to this properly when I get home

I am incredibly jealous! I'm practically fuming that I didn't have the means to make it (y'know being a few thousand miles away and all). You better fill us in on every little detail, Jack, so I can have the experience vicariously through you... 2009-10-31 01:02:00

It was a very good day. I'm tired and posting off my phone and will add more
tomorrow. Me and Alex had a good talk about the thermo, there definetly is multiple ones, he's gonna take a look into letting us view them seperatly for optimizing levels. He was quite keen on that idea.

Also, to de-bunk a myth, they only created with a mouse and keyboard until the popit was created. They use the joypad like we all do now. I talked to Johnee and Alex about it.

They were all great, very freindly and welcoming and answered a lot of our questions and listened to all of our suggestions. They were fantastic all day, thanks MM for having us

There really is loads to tell you guys! We'll all have to have a good think to remember it all :

Heard quite a lot about how lbp started and how it all progressed to what is today. Loads of awesome stuff on it's way, both in game and out!

I'm shattered now, it's 1am here, I've been up since 8 this morning, not going to get home until about 4-5am and then I have to be at work at 8am pretty much 32 hours straight without sleep! But it was all worth it

Is johnee the only MM employee that works on levels on their own?

Man, I would have loved to go! Sounds like a great time. If I was closer I'd have made the trip out. Vancouver isn't quite in same neighborhood unfortunately.

Can't wait to get more details and see some pics/video!

...why the hell didn't I go?

Anyway, what everyone who was on the chat yesterday wants to know:

a) Did you make Wex cry?

b) Did you give Spaff the kiss from Zwollie?

I heard! Grant sent me a little PM while he was there letting me know! I squealed - SQUEALED with glee. I really hope they let me keep the thing. But even if not, it's had its little time in the sun!

Keep the updates coming, inquisitive minds want to know sordid details.

Pics will be coming I think, there were definitely camera's flashing

They were all very enthusiastic about LBP and the community, they are listening, and trying to make our experience better. They were extremely intrested in how we would change things, and when we suggested stuff seemed very open to it.

Just to expand on what Grant said about MM listening to the community.

Now, please understand for obvious reasons we can't mention specifics, as any info that might have been entrusted with people there should be taken as private. I don't want us to go into the whole letting things slip in bits and pieces everywhere.

All I'll really say is when were we all sitting around just chatting we started talking about what we would like to see in the game. Now, as you can imagine, a laundry list of things similar to our suggestions thread here poured out. As soon as we started mentioning things Alex and Martin (producer responsible for securing DLC deals etc./allround great guy) perked up and were very interested in what we had to say. They obviously couldn't give specifics but were delighted that from all the things we mentioned, they had already been working on most of them in some form or another.

Now, to all the people who complain that it just isn't coming out fast enough, this is completely not MMs fault. you have to realise that these guys are working very hard on so many things at the same time. The average wait for a dlc pack from concept to delivery is 6 months. This is due to every little possible thing needs to be passed back and forth between multiple parties and there is a LOT of "paperwork" involved.

Sounds great, sounds like a treat to be able to have the guys right there to talk to about this stuff.

Wow, 6 months from concept to delivery on dlc... for things as simple as a single costume or some of the smaller sticker packs, that's a chunk of time. Although being that digital delivery on videogame products is a worldwide bureaucratic affair, I honestly have to say it's not terribly surprising.

6 months? Err, I don't think so.

I know what it takes to make some DLC and the paperwork involved and all that jazz. No way in hell that most the DLC they offered takes 6 months from conception to release sorry.

Stuff that might take 6 months is at least something like the Monster Pack, History pack and stuff like that. Or again the MGS pack. And it might take them 6 months because they are a small dev.

Anyhow, not saying you're lying Wex but I wanted people to generalise. It does NOT take 6 months to make 80% (if not more) of the DLC we received so far. There's also the possibility that english people are very chill and slow, but I didn't want to go there lol.

I'm not one to argue on the matter, since I don't really know, but I would guess it could take longer with a large company like Sony. That said, the costumes probably don't take that long. But I can see how the rest of the DLC could.

Well Im just saying what Martin (The producer for the game and in charge of all DLC for the game) told me. To clarify, I don't believe he was talking about non-branded things like the history pack or stickers. It was more to do with the complications that arise when dealing with existing IPs that we were discussing.2009-11-01 15:54:00

Yes this is really possible. Do you remember when they announced that Disney deal? It's been a real while and we are yet to have those costumes.
When dealing with existing IPs held by other huge corporations this stuff can take time. You wouldn't believe the time we lose because of big IP holders when we produce a movie game per example. It's incredibly lame...

Ooh, that would be brilliant!

6 months? Err, I don't think so.

Oh, I don't know. I've spent some time on the Star Wars Miniatures forum, the game designer there could have quite some trouble getting a miniature approved by Lucas' people. I can very well imagine dozens of mails going back and forth before a costume is approved. They are being adapted to a cuter, sackier format, that is quite an impact on the brand.

Yes but it's the only thing costing time really. I was actually saying that with Wex, take a look at my previous post
Making, testing, approving and release that DLC itself is not a question of "6 months".
