Mini Fan Meet Streamed *LIVE* @ UK Expo 2009
Archive: 80 posts
Hey guys, UPDATE: Footage WILL be recorded. Remember that blog post MM put up a while ago? sec... let me find it.. http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/10/19/littlebigplanet-mini-fan-meet-%E2%80%9809/ http://www.sackcast.com/images/fanmeet.jpg Thats the one. Well Shermzor and I managed to get tickets for it and we are going there tomorrow. I managed to do something super special that will please everyone, I hope. :s I spoke to mighty Spaff (all hail the Spaff!) about setting up a live stream and sending it over to you guys at LBPC, allllllllll the way from London. His reply was, well, 'yes', and he said it shouldn't be a problem. So I've got my gear ready, tickets packed, streaming equipment, ID.. argh.. wait.... forgot that, I'll go pack that now before I forget AGAIN. The live stream will be avaliable to watch here: http://www.sackcast.com/expo *shamlessplugthatyoushouldread: only avaliable on Sackcast ? ? ?* There is also a popout chatbox that Zac and I finished coding today - better than that IRC stuff that NEVER ACTUALLY WORKED. (P.s if you are wondering where that went.. the host shut the service down.) Or just chat in a larger window here: http://www.sackcast.com/chat Now, heres the catch. Thats right, theres a catch. I am not 100% certain that there is actually a free internet connection up in the venue. I've been told that I could take something called "Portable internet" (??) but the upload speeds on those things are so unreliable and wouldn't be fast enough to support my uber special stream. So I cannot guarantee that the stream will even go up at all. PLEASE don't get your hopes up, I'll do my best to get it up and running and maybe sneak in some interviews but if there is no internet connection then that is that. I suggest you check the live stream every 30 minutes or so to check if I've got it working. (If you see a man with a potato for a face, its probably Shermzor..) The event starts at 10:30am UK time, ends at 6:00PM, which is when the live stream will probably go down (if I ever get it up in the first place.) So have fun and I'll look forward to seeing you in the chat! http://www.sackcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/dan.jpg Why did I do that? This isn't a Sackcast blog post!! Had a great time. Talked to alex a lot about lbp and the industry. We got an interview with 3 molecules; no psp create so it's just things we've seen before. Everyone was really nice and I'll write a proper response once I'm on a of after a few hours sleep. Oh yeah and they told us about the new zzzzzzz | 2009-10-31 01:30:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |
Me and Jack got the PSP of one of Cambrige Studios level desingers (who was a girl and quite hot) that had create mode on it. I got half an hours play with it and it's really good. There's quite a few improvements to MM's editor that makes much more user freindly. I'm posting from my phone will so will add more tomorrow. It was a great day, jack and wex were good craic and MM were superb with us all day. I talked to all of them and they were very freindly and welcoming. Great guys. | 2009-10-31 01:41:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Sorry, missed you grant.. and wex! Stupid phones! | 2009-10-31 02:32:00 Author: CreateNPlay Posts: 1266 |

Yer I was talking to tom and he said that they'd been wanting a meet up for awhile now and since it went so well they'd be mad not to have another. Not on a pc yet, gonna go on lbp; I feel inspired | 2009-10-31 10:38:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |

Okkaaay: So first off the goody bags. When we arrived we were to say to the Spaff man (shoop a doop da da da do) 'playgershef' and hand over a lbp pic to get our bags. Unfortunately the bags were locked away and they couldn't find the guy with the key Later on I got my bag and in it was a bunch of sweets, two stickers (lbp and mm) two badges (a lbp and for me a sackboy holding lbp) then we got a dlc code. Red bags (mine) had the history pack and blue had the monster pack; there were also two crown codes but none of the sackcast team got them There was a ps3 loaded up and Danny and Jonee were making a level together; at this point we announced we were sackcast and someone introduced us to the molecules there (think it was tom or danny). When they mentioned Jonee I exclaimed 'We bagsied an interview with you in episode 2!' we had a chat about it and how Spaff still hadn't got around to doing the MM interview. So they said we could get an interview later on. After messing about on LBP destro-, err, making Jonee's and Danny's level more 'unique' we got round to our interview (which we will upload to sackcast today). We played on lbp psp (didn't get a go on create but I have a good feeling what is in it). After a KFC bucket we returned to the event and messed about on lbp a bit more; creating Ramp and racing cars along it (I'll upload the video later today). We had a go on battlefield bc 2 (awesome graphics and even better gameplay; weren't allowed to video ). I played avatar (meh, but it'd be cool in 3d) and then aaron had to go. After the gamings we went to the lbp area to find Alex Evans. Dan and I had a great ol yap to him about LBP and the gaming industry and we told him about our project we've been working on (see my sig). We checked out the indie games and then just chillaxed listening to alex talking about how the game is made, what's going to be coming out (some stuff sounds really nice) and how to break it etc etc (we also talked about leaking game info and how it was really bad, so you can trust me Alex, my lips are sealed ) So yeah a great day all in all and Sackcast has been invited to visit the studio some time so I'm looking forward to that EDIT: We also got red shirts with play create and share on them and a little crown. I'm wearing mine now xD | 2009-10-31 12:57:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |
Any more cheats maybe? I only know the one that lets you skip the tutorials, thanks to a post Lbpforums. Edit: Next meet in the Netherlands or Germany maybe? Don't want to swim across that pesky bit of water that's between me and the UK. | 2009-10-31 13:00:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |

Sounds like you guys had a pretty great time. Glad to hear that it went well. I'd love it if they were to come to the states (new york, possibly, as it's not that far) but I don't have my hopes set too high for that. ^_^ I'll look forward to seeing any pictures and stuff that anyone has, as I'm sure it was a wonderful time! | 2009-10-31 15:22:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Hi guys, Im still in Gatwick airport waiting to fly home again. The expo was brilliant, but I'll have to leave it to later to tell you guys more as Im still suffering from a late night with Grant in the dodgeyest bar in London | 2009-10-31 16:54:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
Haha, wex, it must have been weird meeting Grant after working on levels with him | 2009-10-31 17:04:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
It was a dodgy bar hahaha. People will start and talk though, Grant and Wex, alone, in a "dodgy" bar in London Good fun though It was great to meet the forum people, I travelled hundreds of miles, to sit on a couch and play LBP, but I couldn't have done it with wex, jack and MM if I hadn't. It was well worth the travel and expense. It's a shame I didn't realise who shermzor and dan were until the very end. Bu there's always next time | 2009-10-31 17:53:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Yer I was just semi sleeping on the giant fatboy beanbags at the end. It'd been a busy day and then the table scattered us all around the room so I couldn't really talk to many people again | 2009-10-31 18:09:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |

OK I'm finally back home after a short detour to the pub to cure my sore head from last night Like I said earlier, Jackofcourse and I had about a half hour each on the PSP version, both in create mode and playing unrestricted single player. I think the other PSP's had only two levels to play. It turned out we were playing the personal copy of the level designer for the Cambridge Studios There was quite a few levels on the local moon that me and jack played, obvisouly we we'nt supposed to. I played three tutorial levels that went from basic to advanced, and a few concept ideas that were really cool. You all obviously know that its only two planes. But the graphics are really good, I don't think videos and screen shots actually do it justice, to see it motion personally its fantastic, they've captured the look and feel perfectly. Also, the level designers are really good, the few levels I played had loads of fresh stuff in them, both me and jack commented we would steal them for our own before the game got released and no one would know I was taking to a few of MM about it, and they, and I, were very impressed by how they managed to fit the physics engine into the PSP. Its exactly like the PS3 version, everything works and acts as well as it does in its older brother The create mode was VERY impressive, and something I wanted to see. Although it was quite fiddly to get used to at first, I imagine it will become second nature like the PS3 version. With only having two shoulder buttons, once controls the thickness, and the other the position in the planes, it took 10 mins but I got used to it in the end. Also, Dark Matter does'nt exist in the PSP version, when you place a block of material in the level, you get the choice of it being static or physics based. Obviously when you choose static, its the same as glueing or pinning with DM. It will make things a lot easier and more thermo freindly. Also, pistons start stiff, which is full of win. And, instead of putting one speaker for a category of sounds, and choosing the sound from the tweak menu, the psp version had a seperate page for sounds, you went through categorys and choose the sound you wanted, and it appeared straight away, which I thought was a good improvement. All of the materials I saw were new, even the basic set were different. Some of the stickers were repeated from LBP, but most of the good ones anyway. I wish I had a bit more time to play with it actually, but its looking very good, and MM told me they had done an excellent job with it, so thats praise enough I guess | 2009-10-31 20:26:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
There was the debate concerning the loading times, your thoughts on that Grant? | 2009-10-31 20:43:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
did anyone get PSP footage/pics? | 2009-10-31 21:28:00 Author: Unknown User |
I did'nt see any actually Zwol, I got the psp handed to me once the level had loaded the first time (perhaps on purpose). Then Jack handed it to me a couple of times, so maybe he's better to comment? They did say you could download as many levels as your PSP could hold to play on the go, then when you reconnect it would upload your rating and score etc to the servers, I was curious how it would handle that, but they had it sorted. | 2009-10-31 21:34:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |

I hope they patch that into the PS3 version. I'm getting sick of placing dark matter triangles all over the place... | 2009-10-31 21:44:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |

I saw that Grant! Were you not supposed to mention it? | 2009-10-31 21:55:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Yeah I panicked at first Compher then realised that its actually old news. There was no layers in the original version and Sackboy could go back and forth into the background and foregournd and he wished and the camera followed him at times. They removed it because it was'nt user freindly and really hard to make levels for. I edited it out and then realised that the old yellow concept video shows much the same thing lol. | 2009-10-31 22:00:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Grant: Where you with stevenl too? Jack says he looks like a cross between gandalf and the Tin man from Oz. Which I find hilarious. | 2009-10-31 22:03:00 Author: KQuinn94Z Posts: 1758 |

You all look so happy and innocent, and then there's Grant at the back looking like he's plotting something Naaaah, he's just a little confused by the flash after he decided to start off the day with a quick visit to the pub. Seriously, great picture and great to actually see some creators and folks of the community together!! | 2009-11-01 10:34:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
I was plotting!! A nice pint of guiness and a smoke!!!! Its a shame Jack had to go and me and Wex did'nt have more time to get mashed That bar was much to loud to properly speak to each other and we were cutting close for the last tube train. I almost missed the tube when I got lost in the station walking in circles trying to find the circle line indecently . Some very drunk bloke in a suit guided me in the right direction, and it turned out he used to live in the town near to us when he was younger. | 2009-11-01 12:36:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |

I got a great wiff of Johnee's hair gel/ wax/ glue when he jumped into the fray The pattern on your shirt kinda makes it look like Johnee's gel sprayed over your chest when he jumped in front of you | 2009-11-01 16:10:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |

Dan, you look JUST like a guy from my school. Unfortunately, his name is Hasan. Shermz looks very close to how I imagined him, actually. Wex and Grant look as I imagined, though I watched your interview vids, I must say at one point I swear I heard a guy from school in the background saying "A sony produced game" or something.
