remind me WHY mcdonalds is popular?

WHY IS MCDONALDS SO DARN POPULAR!!!
I MEEN C'MON!!!

mcdonalds is a world-wide phenomenon...that is the worst quality beef!...why?

its the price...people don't care that it doesn't taste the best...as long as its cheap people will love the stuff!!!

the service can suck

the food made me barf once!

and the play-places are un-healthy!...
SO WHY?
i know what your thinking...none of the other fast foods are much better...except...

in-n-out(a fast food chain based in the us's southwest)

it has...

never-frozen meat!

more fresher veggies and fresh fries(you can see them peel the potatoes)

trans-fat free frying oil

and GREAT service

and only about 50 cents more

so again...

I'll occasionally go to McDonald's and order a snackwrap. I enjoy the taste of it, and it's very cheap. McDonald's stocks are soaring because cheap fast food is where people turn when the economy heads south. And while it may not be good for you, some people actually do find the taste and price of the burgers at McDonald's to outweigh the cons of health detriments.2009-10-30 02:42:00

I do agree, however, In-N-Out is not 50 cents more. The meals are; however at Mcdonalds, a dollar can go along way. Not the same in In-N-Out however.

Different locations have different prices.

For example, there are two McDonald's within half a mile of each other near me. One is in a mall, and it doesn't have a dollar menu. The one outside the mall does have a dollar menu though, so I generally go there.		2009-10-30 02:49:00

The quality of the food depends on which branch you go to.

McDonalds branches in my area are pretty high quality (as far as fast food goes anyway) but i've also been to McDonalds before and not even dared to touch the food that they served me

It's generally popular because the food tastes good and it's cheap-ish. That and years of advertising ^^		2009-10-30 03:00:00

i personally dont mind mcdonald's every once in a while, but if i can, ill go to like Wendy's or BK.

edit: on second thought, ill take arby's. they are technically fast food (i think), and while they might be more expensive, they do have better food. not to mention healthier.

I think the statement that you can't be healthy and eat at McDonald's is a little misleading. If you aren't eating McDonald's everyday (read: once a week or so), then you really have nothing to worry about, especially if your normal diet is healthier than that and you get adequate exercise. For anyone who's seen Super Size Me, you know that regularly eating McDonald's is definitely bad for you though. I'm not advocating eating McDonald's for every meal for the rest of your life obviously, but for the average American/European/Etc, it's a great way to save some money when on a tight budget.2009-10-30 03:10:00

In-n-out if probably less profitable than McDonalds so maybe they can't afford to advertise, they especially wouldn't be able to advertise on the same scale of McDonalds

I go to Marks and Spencers and grab a sausage roll for ?1 at lunch. Then get a bag of crisps for ?0.50, a drink for ?1, an apple for like ?0.25 and maybe a mars bar for ?0.50 if i am hungry.

Bah ... It's mostly unhealthy because of all the preservatives they put in foods nowadays to increase the shelf life.

(BTW - in NYC they made it illegal to use trans fats in oils......... that's why it's more expensive... )

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I can't stand a lot of these fast food places, McDonald's in particular. I understand that they're a business and are in it to make money, but the fact that they offer food that is downright terrible for the human body at such a low price hasn't done a whole lot to help the obesity struggle in today's youth. Granted, most of the problems stem from parents not teaching their children the importance of eating healthy and exercising, but it's because their parents love the cheap, greasy, fatty foods themselves. I'm guilty of eating fast food from time to time (when the situation deems it necessary), but I avoid the Big Macs and Whoppers, etc. If I have to go somewhere, I go with Arby's - you can't top roast beef with Arby's sauce. I would eat salads and healthier alternatives if they weren't so darn expensive.

McDonald's is also such a scuzzy place. Not much else to say.		2009-10-30 03:19:00

We all know McDonalds is the King of Fat. But why do we go? Simple... it's cheap, it's fast, and it's convincing.

Now KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell got my money. Taco Bell FTW!!!

I absolutely cannot stand McDonald's, or most other fast food places. The skeeziness of the restaurants, the SMELL just walking by... Seriously, once you go a long time without eating McDonald's, the smell of the place will instantly cost you your appetite if you happen to stray in or near one.

compher's correct, it's not just bad food, it's a grossly irresponsible corporation that is literally doing harm to people. This food HURTS YOUR BODY, and it's ubiquitous, and it's unbelievably cheap.

The last time I had fast food was actually at A&W, and I was STARVING, and the reason I went was because I somehow was craving a root beer float.

A burger and fries, and about four sips of the float later...

well, let's just say that if you caught me at that point in my life, and asked me "what's your all-time biggest regret?", I surely would have declared without hesitating "EATING THIS DEMON ****."		2009-10-30 06:48:00

Back in my hometown it was almost impossible to avoid if you were hungry and didn't want to cook. You got in the car, and you drove to the nearest fast food joint, often a McDonald's. Sometimes a Whataburger. Or a Jack-in-the-box. Or a Wendy's. They're everywhere, they're open all the time, they're cheap, they're fast. In a TON of smaller towns, there's often no other option if you need something that meets those criteria.

Basically, if you wanted to avoid fast food, you'd have to go OUT of your way to feed yourself, charting a course around and between the hundreds of fast food joints all over the place.		2009-10-30 07:16:00

I hate the food at McDonald's - always have. I used to eat at Burger King, but for the past few years the only fast food I've been eating is Subway, and the occasional pizza from a local shop.

It's amazing to me how unhealthy food tastes so good, until you stop eating it for a few months and you realize, 'hey, this healthy stuff is actually really good.' Then try to go back and eat the unhealthy stuff and you'll feel horrible. I've done this, but I haven't lost the taste for things like pizza and ice cream.. although I do prefer reduced fat frozen yogurt over regular ice cream. Another example is Mountain Dew. I used to drink that like it was going out of style. I then stopped because it's so bad for you. I tried it about a year later and it tastes like syrup - I couldn't drink the whole can.

Mc Donalds is popular because:

1- It benefits some EXTREME brand recognition

2- It's cheap

3- It's still the fast food where you're served the fastest (generally speaking)

4- Since they are well established $$$$, they can have some terribly effective publicity.

psh havent had a burger in so long, just not my food. now the "amicanized" mexican food is amazing =q i can eat aton of tacos and be satisfied but not full and its like pocket change for afew tacos

McDonalds to me is just a corporation that got wildly successful due to a good combination of pricing, convenience and advertising. And no, I do not find their burgers to be nasty. Where I live, McDonalds burgers are actually REALLY good.

Sure, I still like Jack In The Box, Wendy's, In-N-Out, Fuddruckers- ok, many places- more than McDonalds, but by no means is the food disgusting. I love their burgers more than any trash Burger King churns out. It's only at McDonalds that I can get a McFlurry and my Chicken Selects at an arguably good price. And, hands down, their french fries are the BEST out of any fast food joint I've been to.

Why is it associated with obesity and corruption? I dunno- because it's successful and their mascot is a clown (better than a creepy bobbie-head king popping into your shower, bed, office, etc.). It's just used as an offending stereotype, like how Aladdin is associated with Arabians and Hitler is associated with Germany.

Bya "founder" i mean its one of the original, oldest most worldwide spread franchises, Just like Nintendo, "Windows", and Internet Explorer, even tho they're both going downhill and are slightly outdated, they alreay got a "fan base," a group of families and people that will support them for generations until its just so bad or something WAAAAY better appears it'd just be plain dumb to happen, but since its food, that's most unlikely to happen, this Macdonalds is most likely to stay until either a "Major' incident, (and i mean like really really bad or people won't care as much/ will be back inbusiness in no time.) or it goes bankrupt. (both still quite unlikely)

As long as you have popularity and good reputation, you're most likely to keep going even when rumors go around and stuff.
I mean, just look at Pizza Hut, their Pizza is crap compared to many, but thanks to te=heir popularity, its still one of the top pizza sellers.

Unless you go to Europe. They put Horseradish on their Big & Tastys. It was horrible.
They also had McRibs, they were strange.

I absolutely cannot stand McDonald's. Unhealthy food that, in my opinion, is too greasy and bad-smelling to stand choking down. I really don't like fast-food at all for that matter. I wish that governments could control their standards better. Of course, for some people, their "needed" for a quick bite, but if they scheduled time for a meal, they wouldn't need to eat it!

This is just my opinion. Obviously others think differently because "fa(s)t"-food chains continue to grow because of their locations, prices, and speed. Oh well. I'll just live my own life and allow others to eat it... Their loss... Haha!

McD's is nice, though. I disagree with the OPs opinion, I quite like alot of what McD's serves. It's never made me ill, I've never had anything that looked or tasted gross, and all the McD's I've ever visited were quite clean and well looked after.

Last night I had the "Signature Burger" at the Dallas BBQ in Times Square... Big poppy and sesame seed bun with a hearty all beef burger, topped with delicious sauce and 2 different cheeses, red and green peppers, mushrooms, bacon .... best burger I ever ate.
