Reaching the topFredrik94
Set out on an adventure to reach the top.all

The level is a one-layer silhouette kind and I wouldn't recommend it for beginners, it has some platforming elements which some will find hard, but experts will not struggle.

Some very hard platforming challenges?

This level peaks my interest for two reasons 1. It's another one for my list of levels to play on Halloween, yay! ^_^ and 2. As an expert platformist I love anything that could possibly be an expert level platformer, although chances are it'll only be advanced rather than expert, but might still provide a good challenge. Maybe it'll suprise me. I'll be looking forward to this one.

After I play it I'll be telling you what I thought. ^_~

EDIT: IGNORE THIS POST AS THE CREATOR HAS FIXED MOST OF THE PROBLEMS!

Okay, I played your level, although once you mentioned a plasma background I almost didn't, as a plasma background is always a bad mistake on the part of the creator. To be honest, I can tell you many reasons why no one has beaten it. Also, because of a headache I had to quit.

Pros

-none

Cons

-The plasma background is a big problem as that can hurt the eyes after a while and also cause headaches and nausia.

-You didn't even include a seizure warning in the level description for those that have epilecptic seizures when exposed to flashing lights or images of various sorts.

-The plasma combined with the foggy darkened level makes it hard to really tell what your sack person is doing and what you're suppose to do, therefor making skill only partial and luck being the biggest factor rather than skill. I had no idea there was a thing that can be moved at the start to make a bridge as it looked like part of the level (the first bridge, not the second).

-The second bridge obstacle where you push it to the other side is a bad idea also since you didn't do it right. It was too far over and too steep to climb my third time over it, therefor you have to restart level to get back over to other side.

-Relating to that last con, you should of put a checkpoint at the far right, before you go up to the platforms and grab hang parts, because when you fall at far end, then you have to go across that second bridge again, and where the second bridge falls and the way it moves is random since you didn't bolt the bottom of it down, or put something there to keep it in a specific area. So sometimes restarting the level is the only way.

Technically, you've done almost everything wrong with this level. I had to give it :star: as it's probably among the worst levels I've ever played. It falls into the category of people that try to make a hard level, but instead think hard involves not saying where to go and causing big flashy effects that will only disorientate someone and make them sick instead. And right now I'm not feeling too well after playing. If it wasn't for the plasma background I would go and finish as the obstacles fall in the normal range, out of easy, normal, advanced, and expert. But since I couldn't see whole level, I can't say whether or not there are any advanced obstacles or not. So the level isn't hard. It's rather the horrible plasma background and nothing telling player of what to do at say the beginning with the first bridge. So I tried a few times to super jump the gap, and based on the results, the first gap can be super jumped, but is hard to pull off as you can't directly see where the edge of the platform is before the gas.

I've also thought about making a plasma background for one of my levels, but realized it was a bad idea after it caused me to feel ill. The flawed design and plasma background is why your ratings are so low.

Tbh I made the design/plasma background bad because of one reson; I want it to really feel like hell, and hell sure isn't something good to look at.

Anyways.. I might remake the level, removing plasma and make it a bit more obvious on what to do, but then I'll have to rename it.

That looks very nice. You could of still made a level feel like hell like that. I've played an extreme platformer based in hell and it wasn't pleasant, although it didn't disorientate. Having a red background or fire background, or lava background could of worked nice.

Anyways, I'll try your level again later.

Before you changed it because of the plasma I actually went as far is to try the landscaping technique, which is an expert technique involving the use of stickers and accessories to make the different planes or parts more visible or the path more apparent, so I tried stickering the platforms and using accessories to cover the plasma background in certain parts, but it didn't work. Sure, I was able to cover the plasma, but the stickered platforms didn't show, so then the platforms ended up blending right into the dark background, lol. That's when I felt kind of dumb and realized that the global settings obviously was what's making the platforms dark, which means no stickers or accessories would work on the platforms, lol, as they would always appear dark no matter what.

Yeah, I guess I could have made it hellish with fire and red background etc. But it just didn't feel right. xD So I just made it blue 2009-10-29 20:31:00

I am currently playing your level abd am stuck at this part where I don't know what to do. I had no idea there were going to be puzzle elements in this as I typically don't like puzzle anything in a platformer. I'm at this part after the 3rd checkpoint I think, or maybe it was 4th, don't remember, but you jump up on this somewhat long platform, then onto another, but then I can't get on top of the third one, which oddly is the grabble one. So I went under the platform by grab hanging to the other end and there was nothing there, no where to go. So then I just assumed that grabbing it was just to somehow move the platform a certain way so you'd jump back to the 2nd platform and jump up on top of the 3rd one (grabble one) quickly while it was moved a certain way and that didn't work either. So I have no idea why the 3rd one is grabbable. And no matter how I run and jump from 2nd platform, the 3rd one can't be reached, I've even tried swaying the platforms since the right end raises when moved a certain way, but when you move to jump to the 3rd platform your feet kick the end back down, so that doesn't work either.

The only way that seems like it could be possible is the way I'm trying now with no luck, which is running to left end and running right as the platform is tilted where right end is up, but that doesn't seem to boost you enough to get up there. So I'm incredibly annoyed right now. Parts of this level definitly falls into the advanced category out of easy, normal, advanced and expert.

EDIT: I got past it. Oh, and I forgot to mention I love the level so far. It actually does provide more of a challenge than expected.

EDIT: Oh sorry, I finished your level a long time ago but forgot to tell you. I told a couple of my friends from the expert community about it and that it's not expert but had some irritating parts, lol. Only one of them played it and beat it also. The other one I mentioned it to hasn't tried. I gave it :star::star::star::star::star:. I should of given 4, but did 5 anyways. It had 3 stars before I even went to play it, so your improvements to it must have helped a little as it was 2 stars last night.

I'm not entirely sure.

-Towards the end you have the gravestones and this skeleton or something, which they don't make much sense now that the theme isn't hell.

-The level could be longer, but doesn't neccesarily have to be as some of the parts kept me held up a bit.

-Some parts of the level seemed really empty, mainly during the last half of the level.

-Music, or even just sounds of sorts, would be nice, but I'm sure you intended for it to be quiet as I doubt there would be music in hell. But then again, it's not hell anymore.

-You could try a red background, and place those gravestones throughout the whole level, then add a skeleton or spirit or something here and there, much the same as the gravestones and dead thing towards the end. This would make it hell again. Then again a plane red background might not be as convincing of hell as a firey one. But if you keep it the way it is I would would add some sort of sound and remove the gravestones and dead thing at end. Or instead of how it is now or hell, you could just do a creepy theme and have a plane purple background much like the blue one now, and do the thing I mentioned about placing the gravestones throughout the level with some dead things here and there.

That's all I have to say for anything that could be a possible improvement. It all depends on what you're going for. ^_^
