[Survival Challenge: Avalanche at Rhinuffalo Canyon]SnEaK-Tc
Dodge the avalanche of rocks and ice while evading the startled Rhinuffalo to hold your footing on the icy slope. Collect the most coins and the less frequent coin boxes for a high score!

This is the scoreboard area. The Rhinuffalo are a version of SiXth's Rhino-Buffalo with me making them look furry and meaner.

This is prior to the avalanche. The box can be grabbed for general instructions. There's snow falling as well as screen shaking. Action shots were impossible.

Hey everyone, got another survival challenge for you. Its a lot like one that was on this site before- in a sewer.. can't remember the name of it, but mine's on a slightly larger scale. At the start the screen shakes to make it look like an avalanche is happening which I think is pretty cool. So far a bunch of noobs have played and barely done anything so I was hoping I could get some hardcore survivalists in there to rack up some points. I included boxes that have enough points to get multipliers. Have Fun.

Hardcore survivalists? Call me in!
You're referring to piggabling's "Sewer Survival" (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=15860), I guess? A great survival challenge. Gonna give your survival a shot as soon as I get back to my PS3.

Feedback.

Visuals:

Nice theme, quite an original setting for a survival challenge. The icey spikes down in the pit look awesome! I do also like the scoreboard area. As for the playing area, it's a bit too plain in my opinion. Add some stickers, some deco, maybe some thin layer ice spikes or little frozen hassocks. Biggest flaw: The cave. I will only cover the visual aspect here: If you grab the tutorial block, the camera angles will direct you towards the cave. The cave isn't deep enough though, you'll see "past" the cave, where the whole scenery just disappears. Also, you can see an emitter in the cave. I recommend adding some thin front layer-wall to cover the whole cave. You could get more out of the coins. I know how difficult it is to get a deco straight onto a point bubble, especially as there seems to be no centre point; however, I suggest working with stickered thin-layer dissolvable (or cow-glitched dissolvable aztec gold) glued onto the bubbles to get a nice effect.

Gameplay:

Not the most original, but in a fresh setting. It's definitely fun. However, I think you should either cut it down to a single layer OR shift the 3 layers to three different heights. One one hand, it's very confusing as it is now; the icey character of the surface makes it quite difficult to see which layer you are on; plus, non-air layer switching (by tilting the stick up or down) in survival challenges of this kind is just a no-no in my eyes, especially if you can't really see which layer both you and the incoming obstacle are on. Another issue was the "cave entrance of instant death". Really. The camera angle makes it quite unclear where the cave entrance actually is. I found myself dodging some rocks and being electrocuted without coming even close to the entrance. Add visible gas (black gas covered by a front thin layer wall?) or something like that.

Hope this helps.

Hmm.. that's weird I don't remember being able to see anything with the cameras but I'll take a look. The problem with thin layer is that my Rhinuffalo have thin facial features and such that prevents this from being possible. Also, the problem I saw with 3 different levels is the difficulty to move out of the way when necessary. Either way, I figure I'll just abandon it as its gone from cool levels and it won't come back. The other problem I found

Cool Levels should never have any impact on your creative work. Never.
Cool Levels is a mainstream mirror - and one of a very young audience. If you want to go for what kiddies love, just take a look at the Cool Pages and go and build some bomb survival, ramp, OMGTHEPLATFORMSFALLDOWN, jumpjumpjump or something of the kind.

If you want to create an original level with your own thoughts and preferences in it, just ignore the cool levels. In all honesty. I'm happy with how most of my levels turned out, and neither of them has ever been on the cool levels.

If you want real feedback and real players, LBPC is the way to go.

Regarding your level: I don't know every detail behind your level, just trying to point out what detracts from the overall experience. It's not up to me to get rid of the issues, that's your job. And it's your choice if and how you want to do this. If you decide on updating the whole thing, I'd be glad to give it another go.

What I mean by the cool levels comment is that my level is more or less "dead." As in no one will play it anymore as it's gone and publishing it doesn't update it. At msot I get 10 more plays. No worth it IMO. Thanks for the feedback.

And what I want to say is that neither one of my levels did ever appear on cool levels, not even page 10. But all of them have got between 1'000 and 15'000 plays. So don't give up on it!2009-11-01 19:00:00
