Playstation 4

What's all this talk about PS4? Has anyone else read about this? Anybody else think they just need to wait, maybe milk the PS3 some more? With the economy in America being so bad right now, would Sony really need to put nails in their own coffin? Didn't they just now start to recover some sales because of the price drop? And can you imagine the price of the system that has LCD screens on the controllers and the system? $600 for the PS3. Just a reminder of what they used to cost. I know that looking at just the aestetics, sorry I don't know how to spell it, that it looks very pricey. Besides, do you remember how they pushed the PS2 as hard as they could on graphics, and still are putting out games for it. Also there are rumors of an Xbox 720. As cool as the name is, are they going to try to push it out to compete with Sony too early and have the same problems that kept me from buying the 360. Red Ring of Death anyone?
I think they should wait at least a few more years, at least. Anyone else have an opinion?

Huh? I haven't heard any talk of the PS4... O-o This seems to be based off nothing but wild rumors from a couple of random sites O_o2009-10-27 00:01:00

No it's definately true, I has seen pictures:

I honestly don't think the PS4 is coming out anytime soon. With the PS3 rebranded into slim and the development on emulators and the motion controllers, plus the simple fact it's only been out for 3 years... Nah. Sony probably are looking into potential concepts, designing and implementing a completely bespoke hardware is a significant task. I would be willing to put money on it not being soon though.

I'm going to sound like the Sony marketing team, but they are really going for a ten-year product life cycle. If that holds true, we won't be hearing about the PS4 for a couple more years, probably in the PS3's seventh or eighth year.2009-10-27 00:26:00

I heard that because the PS3 was so powerful, they wouldn't come out with one for a long time, I forgot how long... Maybe 2012? I might have mixed that up with the end of the world... I don't remember...2009-10-27 00:59:00

The PS3 is a powerful machine? Compared to a Wii or PS2 maybe, but comparing it to the standard gaming rig nowadays is a just silly.

I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing a ps4 for a while.

The way the ps3 is developing so far i think it might be a bit out of line with the current generations.
Ps4 probably might not be released until half way through the next generation or it might skip the next generation completly!

Not that that's a bad thing though, the ps3 is inching closer to the top of the market every day. The wii and xbox are just starting to dry up while the ps3 is as strong as ever

PS1: Released in 1994 in Japan, and 1995 in North America and Europe.
PS2: Released in 2000.
PS3: Released in 2006.

Therefore if the trend continues, the PS4 will be released in 2012.

Wow were they really released that far apart? xD

If that's the case then 2012 sounds about right
I thought the gap was smaller for some reason.

2011 is when they are going to release more information, maybe E3 or CES. They have a bunch of site saying what the specs are going to be, and there is supposed to be fans to simulate wind. I think the PS3, with the right marketing, could go longer than 10 years.2009-10-27 01:59:00

I used half of the buttload of cash (like 1,200 bucks. thank you Jews!) I got for my quick half Jewish bar mitzvah (got my PS3 the second it came out. . like a true player ).

I don't even remember what I did with the rest of that money. . I have a feeling that's a bad thing.

I certainly hop we won't get a PS4 for a long time, because when we do, it'll be expensive. I mean back in the day a PS3 with maybe one game could be nearing 500 quid, that's a bit much just to play games, no?2009-10-27 12:33:00

That said, people have just stopped whining [for the most part] about how they can't afford a PS3. I really don't want to start hear the groans about paying a premium price for the PS4...

"XBOX 720 NEW XBOX MUST SEE!!!!!!!!"
"NEW PS4 OMG!!!"
"PLAYSTATION4??"

and then you get Rick Rolled, isn't that overplayed yet?
What sparked my curiousity was Morgan Webb bringing it up on the GSpot

They're still making games for PS2... Sony takes their long console life seriously and I'm sure they'll take their sweet time seeing how games, tech, and the market goes before they decide what to shove into their next one... There was a lot wrong with the PS3 design and marketing when it came out, they don't want to make the same mistakes again.2009-10-29 20:29:00

Ummm, no.

The PS3's that came out in the beginning are just as good if not better than the current PS3's (on the inside).

And they didn't do a bad job of marketing, the majority of the population is cheap s.o.b'.s.

When the PS3's originally came out, a bluray player cost like 1,000 dollars, and there was already one of those in the 500-600 dollar PS3. They lost money selling it at that price.

People are just ignorant cheap bast***s. And those people. . had fun getting RROD.

Originally the Ps3 marketing was pushing everything BUT games... media... entertainment center... etc...

From a technical standpoint the final PS3 design strayed a lot from it's initial plans pretty late in the development... It's not that it's necessarily bad, but it could've been a little different.

Also the development kits for the PS3 were extremely expensive, that's why it started with very few exclusive titles, and the vast majority of PS3 exclusives are from Sony subsidiary studios.

It's pretty ignorant to think that the majority of people saw the blu ray as a significant issue back in 2006. In fact, the majority of people aren't that fussed by bluray in 2009 according to the surveys. (although we're kinda on the cusp now).

500-600 dollars is a hell of a lot of money for a console, especially when the bonus features that justify the price tag aren't something you specifically want.

Not to mention back then how much did an HDTV cost? It was a serious investment. I was using my PS3 through a CRT until a few months ago, there was no way I could enjoy or care about blu-ray...

I was making a point towards why it cost so much. Not pointing out a feature.

Also the fact that the hardware's amazing might have went in to play. .

360's come out first and cheap. . but 50% of them break.

PS3's come out a year later and expensive. . and 2% of them break.

You end up spending more for a 360 in the end.

I have heard talk of it. I heard talk of it two years ago. It's nothing new. And of course it's in development, but I don't think they'll rush it out to milk it. They need to be careful, Sony hasn't been doing so well recently.2009-10-30 01:46:00

I personally think it would be smarter to keep putting out PS2 games and keep that system alive, especially since you can buy them for 100 us dollars. I like the PS2 and have one in my bedroom. Eventually the PS3 might take it's place, but right now they should rush anything.
They are just now starting to utilize some of the features that have been around since day one. Like a playable demo of GOW III in the District 9 Blu-ray. Awesome movie that I was planning on buying anyway, but now it's definate.

I think its great that SONY are giving so much support for the PS2. you got to remember in japan that console outsells the 360.

They currently have 3 different consoles on the market one of which, the PSP has three different versions in development.

It has been a very hard struggle for SONY the last few years but i think they have pulled it off as well as possible. releasing a new console now would kill them.
