There is too much complexity in this area of your level

Archive: 6 posts

What exactly does this mean, I've currently gotten this twice but only once i've saved and gone back to my pod, I got the message as soon as I exited the level, It didn't seem to be causing any problems now, but it might cause problems later.

My main question is what exactly does this mean, How many corners in how big of an area causes the message to appear and will it cause my level to not save or overheat. This is probably because I'm making a library and I'm putting books on all the shelves, I got the message when I finished the first one and again when I finished the second one, Currently the books I'm using are just rectangular with an extra corner and 2-3 stickers each, there would be an average of 6-7 books on each shelf and each bookshelf has 8 shelves.

I hope that asking all these questions isn't considered spamming or anything, I don't usually use forums so I wouldn't really know.

You're definitely not spamming (unless you're posting duplicate threads), and if you have questions, you're definitely going to want to get them answered.

This acts sort of like a global thermometer, but at a local level. What this means is that if you have any of your other thermos not filled yet, but you have any of those thermos concentrated in a small area, it will trigger the Objects Being too Close Together Thermo. If you get this one, your objects will start to be replaced with exclamation points to signify that you are over-taxing the system. Violators for this can come in many different forms (mag keys, sound items, lights, etc.), and if you ever get this message you are trying to put way too much stuff in a small space. Spread it out!

Other Points of interest
By gluing adjacent objects together and by stapling them with Dark Matter, it will reduce this thermo, as well as the Moving Objects Thermo.

Lovingly stolen from this thread:

which is a rather excellent guide for future reference.

That's good to know, You can never be too careful

I glued down all the books and deleted the extra corner, I also removed a couple from each shelf and it's fine now. Thanks for the help

One thing to bear in mind is that even if you are getting this message you don't need to fix anything. The level will work just fine when this message comes up. If you're only halfway through making the section then you are clearly going to hit problems. If your level actually overheats because of it, then obviously this would be another time to worry. If, however the section is pretty much done, and you haven't overheated then you may not need to worry about it.2009-10-26 10:51:00

Currently i've put about half the books on the bookshelves and I haven't gotten the message since I removed a corner from each of the books, It's weird because I've got twice as many books on the shelves since I got the message last and all I did was remove a couple of books and remove 1 corner from each one (they've got 4 each now), Also the thermometer doesn't seem to have changed at all since I started placing them.2009-10-26 11:03:00

As you said, you glued them to the shelf, right? This is probably why you aren't getting the message anymore. Before, the PS3 had to take into account the physics of every single one of those books - gluing them to your shelf made them essentially one object. If you then glue the shelf to some DM, or something attached to DM, the effect will be even lower.

Yup, that thermo guide sure is handy. I wonder what awesome member made that...?
