You guys at LBPC could help me win scholarship $

Hey guys! As you may or may not know, I am a senior in High school and I plan on attending college for photography- I found a really cool little "contest" where the photographer enters a black and white picture and people vote for it to win the prize. I would really appreciate it if you guys could just take a second and vote for my picture- although it is only $1000, every bit helps and this is great because I get to show off my work!

When people are saying they voted, are you actually sure it is counting it. I say this because you can click the thing again, but if you refresh the page it says that you can't vote again yet. It says your vote has been added, even though it isn't. o_o

is this not a RIDICULOUS scholarship? It's not a photography competition at ALL, it's a "word-spreading" competition! Whoever can wrangle up the most votes wins. It even tracks where your votes are coming from! For example, you have no votes from livejournal. Better get it out there, huh?

Seriously, it's absolutely ridiculous, the only thing being measured is the contestant's internet-savvy to wrangle online votes and exploit the voting system in place.

Still, I hope you win, and you've got my vote, and I do like the photo, although I admit it seems an unreasonable way to commit suicide. (that is, assuming my assumption was correct and she was lying down in some sort of road or track.)		2009-10-28 02:47:00

I'm not perturbed at all by participating! I'm more than happy to help you out actually, if I have any sort of opportunity to help a fellow LBPCentral member get a cash scholarship, I'm all over it! It's not like you designed the thing.

I'm glad to hear that a panel of judges chooses instead of just letting the winner take all - I imagine they're treating the voting process as something like a "narrowing" process - let the community take it down to a list of top photos, and then choose from those, as you mentioned. Which is still a shame, as the top list of photos is again, probably in the top not based on the strength of the photography, but based on the savvy of the user.

That being said, I'll vote again, and hope you pull through!

EDIT: Wow, I just clicked on the competition link, and you're the very first one listed under "newly popular", with your "viral" rating through the roof at "red hot!"

you've got a strong entry, I'm looking over some of them, and while there's definitely some stiff competition, there are also more than a few "point-and-shoots" that just don't stand a chance. Like, seriously, even in the top 25, there are quite a few questionable duds there.

If this competition really is just about who can vote-bot the most, and only the "winner" gets a scholarship, I imagine whoever wins may very well be using some sort of professional "voteboting" service.

Ah, that's good to hear - that's a much better contest design.

So all community voteboting for the member in question now is just to keep them in the top 200? That shouldn't be too hard.

its just a horrible quality picture of some lady walking down the street with a baby cart thing.
that shouldnt even be anywhere near rank 28 or whatever it is. the funny part is that people are all "OMG THIS IS THE GREATEST PIC EVAR!". seriously. thats just ridiculous.
