When Ice Age 4 comes, we will get Water. So that all the little Sackboy/girls can craft Water out of Ice. So... yeah it will take a while I guess... | 2009-10-26 16:44:00 Author: Dexist Posts: 570 |
It's coming in 2047, Ok. | 2009-10-26 16:50:00 Author: CreateNPlay Posts: 1266 |
I expect it'll be here just before Christmas, along with online create and probably a new water level pack. It makes sense for them to released loads of stuff at once, and the best time to do that is Christmas (like they did with the MGS pack)..... | 2009-10-26 17:22:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
better to live in false hope than in hopeless truth I have to say that this statement strikes me as more than a little malicious. I don't think that deluding ourselves is ever a "better" option. I'd rather know when the water was going to hit. It would help me plan as far as level creation. Knowing is ultimately practical. | 2009-10-26 17:27:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |
Seriously, a huge update like "online create + water" better come out soon. Soon I mean, before Christmas. It's real nice PR excuses and they want to market the GOTY edition in that time so it takes a part of the Christmas cake. If Media Molecule can't do it then it's a real huge business opportunity lost imo. . | 2009-10-26 19:01:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Well most of us seem to believe it shall be out before Christmas, so late February/March then... | 2009-10-26 19:22:00 Author: persona3fan93 Posts: 155 |
Well most of us seem to believe it shall be out before Christmas, so late February/March then... Lol. So true. @ Ranger, surely a patch this big will have to go through a rigorous official QA on the final build after the beta, no? Obviously I'm asking you because you'd know better than most of us? | 2009-10-26 19:26:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Lol. So true. @ Ranger, surely a patch this big will have to go through a rigorous official QA on the final build after the beta, no? Obviously I'm asking you because you'd know better than most of us? Well, since it's a "public" beta this means the machine should be on since a while. When they do such beta it's mostly (and most of the time) for testing server load or having extra testing juuuuuust in case people would discover something big. A public beta can be done on a product that is in approval phase or even already approved since it's mostly just a double fail-safe for devs/publishers. Also, this is why you often see the content or updates (or games) released merely days away when the public beta ends. Look at Uncharted 2 per example, one of the lastest huge beta. This game was probably in printing already before the beta ended. It takes ~ 1 month to print copies. . | 2009-10-26 19:45:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |

The online create beta took quite a while so I'll be surprised if water is released in 2009. | 2009-10-28 21:42:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |
The online create beta took quite a while so I'll be surprised if water is released in 2009. Yes but that feature is incredibly more complex and prone to bugs so I wouldn't be surprised water would have less testing. Also, I *heard* (cough cough) there's like no bugs with the water. . | 2009-10-28 21:53:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
I'm just gonna step in here with a little thought for everyone second guessing the release date: Since water was first announced, people have been guessing dates, for when the beta would start, for when water would be released properly etc etc. People invented these dates and then got all upset when their guesses were wrong. Don't hold out too much hope for imaginary release dates, you are just setting yourself up for disappointment. | 2009-10-28 21:58:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

That's good news then. I saw a video of the water beta on youtube (it's probably been banned now, along with the two players) and [Edited by request to keep info about the beta private] | 2009-10-28 22:01:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |

Betas like the recent uncharted 2 beta are more about ensuring the servers are working properly so they don't end up with tons of bad press when the game launches and the online is broken for several days. | 2009-10-28 23:23:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |

Exactly. I was just explaining they don't wait for a public beta to end before sending the game to the manifacturing. . | 2009-10-28 23:42:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
this statement strikes me as more than a little malicious. malicious? im just lessening the fall saying that its [supersickie wouldnt want me to say this] makes me depressed, but being Optimistic, and saying it could come out this thursday as a treat from Mm seems like a better option to me | 2009-10-29 00:11:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |

malicious? im just lessening the fall saying that its [supersickie wouldnt want me to say this] makes me depressed, but being Optimistic, and saying it could come out this thursday as a treat from Mm seems like a better option to me The statement was not "it's better to be optimistic". The statement was "false hope is better than hopeless truth" - meaning liking the answer is more important than accuracy, which when stated as a blanket statement like that really comes off as a horrible philosophy (given that it was stated as a generality, and therefore was put up to apply to anything). I know you most likely didn't consciously mean it as "it is better to believe what is preferable despite evidence to the contrary", but that's the meme that was put forth, it's a common one in modern society, and without being too specific, I know people who have fallen into great misfortune, including a few who are dead, because of this line of "reasoning". What I was calling malicious was simply the idea that "it is better for us to live in false hope than hopeless truth" - the "believe whatever you want" philosophy - which is a philosophy under which all integrity and utility flies entirely out the window. I was not saying that either you, or more specifically the simple premise that "optimism may help here", was malicious. I agree that guarded optimism may be useful here ... at least for those of us who do not know when it will be released. For anyone who actually does know, however, and convinces themselves of an "alternate truth" simply because they find it preferable ... that's known as self-delusion. | 2009-10-29 01:01:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |

"Believing in something simply because you want to believe it will not do you any favours" Loses a fair bit of the depth of jagrevi's statement, but it's kinda similar. | 2009-10-29 01:15:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
