Want to add onto your RAM for CHEAP?

Archive: 7 posts

Well, I just found out the other day that I could add onto my RAM with a USB Drive. I Hooked up my 2.0 Gigabyte Sandisk Cruzer into the USB slot into the back of my computer, took off all the annoying U3 applications, and right clicked it on the "My Computer" Menu. I pressed properties, went to the "ReadyBoost" tab, and set up to have ALL 1800 MB of it go to additional RAM.
This may be little, but why not? It just adds to the performance of the computer.

Can anyone tell me if 1800 MB is a lot of Ram to add on?

That won't really work very well. PArt of the point of RAM is that it's pretty darn fast. USB is very slow in comparison. And flash memory is very slow compared to that.

I very much doubt you will see much of an improvement.

Yeah, 1800 MB is a lot of RAM, but on a USB drive, not so much :/2009-10-26 00:33:00

You are probably right, but I did notice Chrome starting up faster... May just be my subconscious mind thinking there would be improvement.
Even if it helps a little bit, I'll still keep it in there.

Pffffft 1800mb is nothing even if it does boost it. The new iMacs are upgradeable to 16GB ram!

Speaking of which, kinda off topic I guess but I just upgraded from 2GB to 4GB today. Hooray! I don't have to conserve which instruments I use when I compose anymore!
