I loved the paintinator part at the end. Like I said in the level comments, I'd really like to see that expanded into a full level. There's some game that I've seen video of that does the same thing, but I had never considered that it would work in LBP. Nice job.2009-10-24 22:38:00

The level was ok, one of my complaints of the original was its length...I found that level to be pretty short. This level I thought was even shorter which was surprising because it seemed like you used very few materials.

The level looked really really good, I enjoyed the art style. My major complaint is that there isn't much gameplay, you basically just walk in a straight line the entire time with a few parts where you have to jump. I kinda like to describe the level like a museum, it's boring, but it has some interesting things to look at. Also, the paintanator part wasn't really that original, the level name escapes me, but I have seen it done before.

All in all, it was a good level. I gave it 3 Stars, might have given it higher if it were a bit longer.

Another thing...Have you thought about changing the music to something more exciting? Perhaps a song from the new Music Pack..

I played this level earlier today, after I tried out the first one. These are fantastically illustrated levels, and the Paintinator mechanic at the end was great as well, though I wish it was a bit longer. It reminds me of "The Unfinished Swan" (http://giantsparrow.com/games/swan/).2009-10-24 23:51:00

^ That's what it was called!

-----

@Endless Echo: The number of materials used has no bearing at all if you've maxed out the complex shapes thermo (which is likely). Have you checked out the thermo guide?

Yes, I have and I even got into alittle discussion with people on there. I still think you can make a longer level with 1-3 Materials compared to 20+

Honestlt, I didn't understand their argument, they made it sound as though you could make the exact same level if you made a level with 1 material and another with 50+. Which simply isn't true.

Which simply isn't true.

Oh, well I'm convinced now. Lol. Hmmm, what could I possibly use to counter such a compelling argument? It simply is true! Seriously though, 50 is an exageration, 20 is a more sensible number. And "exactly the same" is probably inaccurate as well. You will likely see a mild reduction in the amount of stuff that you can fit in, but not enough to make a significant reduction in level length.

Anyway, I did just play this and it is very very cool, much like the first one, which I'm off to play now as I haven't played it in a while. All the things I liked about that are the same here - especially the way you use the different layers for perspecive on the "flat" background. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I think it's really cool. The length is disappointing, but I understand it's necessary for this art style.

I did feel that there was little coherency to the gamplay, it felt like it was split into distinct sections, but each section was very short. On the other hand, some of the ideas were really neat - the spikes that come through the floor that you can just run across, the streetlamps and the paintgun section were all really good. I agree with comphermc that that section really could do with extending. Maybe not to an entire level, but just longer than it was here. Especially with the hidden hazards and maybe a bit of multipath going on it could work really well.

Never meant it as a compelling argument. But you can make longer levels with less materials.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. At the beginning of the level I fell into some black gas, o was able to see this huge chunk of Dark Matter which kinda took away from the feel of the level.

I really loved that level. Once again, it reeks with style and charm.
I love your beginning in a cage, it makes me think of Out of This World's beginning. I just wish I would be as good as you are with visuals. You are the living proof that a strong artistic sense will replace the number of materials and tools you use any day.

This level, while feeling short, was fun through and through. I think that Away in Sky Town is your best one because it was so original but nevermind that, your black and white series is really fun.

I think it has the same pros and cons as the last one really.

Beautiful visuals and atmosphere as always, but feels more like a gallery level than anything.

The visuals are some of the best I've seen in LBP, I really do love them and for that reason it disappoints me that more hasn't been done with the concept. With some truly innovative gameplay and neat ideas something like this could become one of the best levels around.

I know this is just something that you like messing around with and can take it easy on but the whole concept has so much potential and I just feel it isn't being exploited.

I'm probably not being fair with my feedback here and I should comment on what it is there rather than what it isn't (I preach such an ethic quite a bit I should stick to it myself!) but I just can't help but feel like it could be so much more.

The paintinator at the end touched upon the kind of things that I think the level should be full of. Not in terms of shooting gameplay, but just innovation and cool ideas.

Still, when it comes to rating it, I leave all that aside and rate it on what is there, and for that, it's still 5 stars.

Beautiful.

In my opinion EVERYTHING takes a back seat to the visuals in this one... and thats not a bad thing. I was absolutely stunned by how beautiful this level is. It's like playing through a work of art.

About the length: I originally had a bit of an issue with the length of the first one, but I realized... now I can just play through both of them together, and that pretty much takes care of the length issue.

The only thing that lowered the immersion a bit was when I fell on the part with the 4 platforms rise up that you have to jump between - I could see a big chunk of dark matter. Maybe move it down a bit further and extend the pistons a bit. But, this was a small issue.

5 stars and a heart! Loved it!

Had a chance to play this with 3 other friends last night and we were all amazed at the art work. Visually stunning. I like the part where you have to jump from rotating cube to rotating cube. Perhaps you could have extended that final part with the paintinators because that was a whole lotta fun, too. On second thought, wouldn't it be cool if the level started off with paintinators and each gun had a different color so throughout the level you'd be in essence painting the black & white planet with actual colors? Anyways, loved it. 5 stars and hearted.2009-10-30 19:08:00

Ok, I am a huge fan of yours - mainly because of your concept drawings (which I love) but also because of levels like this. Beautiful visuals....and they are so great that I forget about the gameplay.
And then you come up with some brilliant paintinatr gameplay to top it all off!

Genius. Heart and 5 stars. Wish I could give you a second creator heart too

Just played through this, I loved every minute. Gorgeous from beginning to end.

Thanks for posting the screenshot of the thermometer too by the way - we can clarify what's going on there for you.
It's the number of CORNERS that's causing your level to overheat. You have tons of complex shapes with your trees and buildings and streetlamps, your cages and bridges, etc. It's the only thermometer overheating, so in the future, if you manage to use fewer corners in your shapes, you'll be able to fit in way more stuff. It's not the lighting, it's not the materials - it looks to be only the high number of corners.

I'm with the other guys, I just loved the paintenator segment and would LOVE to see it expanded!

But by far my single favorite moment in this level was the street lamps. The little pools of light as floating platforms. It might be the single most clever visual gag I've seen in this game to date, and one of the coolest images period. These tiny little pools of light under the street lamps are the only refuge in a big black dangerous void. I love it!

Beautiful level from you again. I like the paintinator section. I thought the round stickers on the floor was a lovely detail (might be robbing that sometime ) Slightly frustrating in parts if playing in multiplayer but a really great level overall.
nice work.

Woah.... I knew the complex corners would've taken a lot of thermo up but that much!?

If you ever make a 3, it would definitely need more gameplay and puzzles in the same area to make the level seem longer. Another thing I should mention is the varying detail. There were lots of walk-on-by parts with loads of detail that most players will just walk past, or pause for ten seconds and then walk past. On the other hand, jumping on cubes is a bit boring and the scenery for those parts is the exact opposite, a bit dull.

Sorry for the harsh rant, but all in all, your level was spectacular. The theme was WIN! My only unopinionated feedback would be to get rid of visible dark matter, and maybe make the gas invisible. Cheers!
