New Level: Space Ghostbusters

Not sure how many people care, but I have started working on a Ghostbusters level. It takes place aboard the Space Ecto 1. After discovering alien existence, the world also discovered that even aliens like to cause trouble in the afterlife. So the Ghostbusters decided to expand the business to the far reaches of the galaxies helping various planets with their ghost troubles.

As of now, you start as a new recruit and spend some time exploring the ship and taking part in some Space Ghostbusting training. I am hoping to create a few levels off of this idea. The first level will be on the ship, but then something happens and you escape to a planet to uncover information on what happened during the next couple levels.

I am hoping that this will be the best looking level I have ever created. I am taking a new approach to working on this level and I think it is working quite nicely. Well, as I mentioned, I am not sure how many of you are interested of if you have any ideas for me to possibly use, but I will keep you guys updated.

Just as a stylistic/aesthetic note, since drastic change in location would probably imply 'updating' the ghostbusters image a bit for the level - I thought I'd post this here in case it would help on how the ghostbusters imagery could be evolved to fit a more 'futuristic' theme.

Thanks...that was cool. Ya, the initial ship you fly in on to board the main ship has a similar look that the Ecto-1 has, I will have to try to upload a pic later. And I am trying to make a cooler looking containment unit.2009-10-22 05:03:00

You know, this was Dan Akroyds initial idea for the ghostbusters...in space.
They scrapped that idea since it was too far out there.
Space and Ghosts, it didn't make any sence to the director/producers.

But as a level, this sounds really interesting!!

Space and Ghosts, it didn't make any sence to the director/producers.

To be fair, it is a natural contradiction of themes - a combination of supernatural/mythological fiction and natural/science fiction. Alot of audiences would probably reject it as an uneasy mix unless the 'ghosts' were given a psuedoscience-babble-explanation.

Then again ... *Star Wars. (*Before the force became 'a field generated by metachlorians in your blood'*)

Still, it is an uncomfortable mix. However, if you're going for comedy - that's kind of a benefit. It makes me think of the Futurama joke "Scientists today have discovered Magic!"

So, if you're going for charm and humor ... don't given them a scientific explanation in this level.

i like the sound of this idea quite a lot i cant wait to play it do you have any idea on the release date i really wanna play these levels it sounds a bit like the mgs opening levels where your a new trainee and you have to go through training but ye like i said this is a good idea you should carry on with it.2009-10-22 10:02:00
