The jugs puzzle
Archive: 8 posts
For the people that don't know this puzzle: You have two jugs and an infinite supply of water, one 3-gallon jug and one 5-gallon jug. You have to fill the 5-gallon jug with exactly 4 gallons. Answer: Fill the 5-gallon jug with water Pour the water from the 5 gallon-jug to the 3-gallon jug, leaving you just 2 gallon behind in the 5-gallon jug Empty the 3-gallon jug Pour the 2 gallon from the 5-gallon jug into the 3-gallon jug Fill the 5-gallon jug Pour the water in the 5-gallon jug into the 3-gallon jug, this will leave you 4 gallons. This would be an awesome puzzle to make in littlebigplanet, but is it possible? I've got no idea if you can simulate the water filling and removing, so does anyone know how to do this or if its possible Thanks. | 2009-10-20 22:41:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
This might help with the different water heights thing: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=16124 The rest is bunches-o'-logikz... | 2009-10-20 22:57:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
There's another solution too... Fill the 3 gallon jug, then pour it into the 5 gallon jug. Repeat... This will leave you with 1 gallon of water in the 3 gallon jug. Pour out the 5 gallons and transfer the 1 gallon of water form the 3 to the 5 gallon jugs. Refill the 3 gallon and pour it into the 5 gallon jug. voila! Exactly 4 gallons. | 2009-10-21 03:43:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |

For making this even harder to make | 2009-10-21 07:34:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
lol i was thinking of doing this cause a first saw this puzzle in Die Hard 3 Die Harder lol and my dad paused it and made us all figure it out and the other night i was trying to think of how to do it in lbp now that is weird. but anyway i was sitting down watchng a bit of tv when i realised that if you double all the numbers you can still do it so u start of with "3 Galoon Jug "5 Gallon Jug" and you want 4 gallons double each number and then you have to do it with a 10 gallon jug and a 6 gallon jug trying to get 8 gallons of water it works you can test it out if you want but it will work so good luck to anyone who comes up with a way to do this. | 2009-10-22 13:14:00 Author: lbpholic Posts: 1304 |
It's actually from Die Hard with a Vengeance. Die hard 2 was subtitled Die Harder. If you wanna give it a go, I'd suggest you work out an interface first. I.E how exactly is the player going to transfer water into the jugs, out of the jugs and from one jug to another. That will have a big impact on the way you implement the back end. You just need to come up with a way to implement the interface that will allow the player to do select one of the 6 actions: 1. Fill big jug from pool 2. Fill little jug from pool 3. Empty big jug into pool 4. Empty little jug into pool 5. Pour big jug into little jug 6. Pour little jug into big jug Also, having two solutions doesn't really complicate matters - you still have to allow the player to do any action. To test whether they have completed the puzzle you just test for 4 litres in the big jug, so the steps they take makes no difference. . | 2009-10-22 13:29:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

Hehe seems we've found a Die Hard fan I won't be making this any soon though because i've been busy with school and an other lbp project, but i'll think about a way to make this. Will take some time though and im not sure if i've got the skills for it, maybe a challenge for you rtm | 2009-10-22 20:03:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
