Problems with Technology

Our Wi-Fi is really bad in our house, and the only place I can find good reception is the bathroom, so I'm sitting on the cold tile of our bathroom posting. =S Anyone else had a problem with technology?2009-10-20 04:16:00

Have you tried it next to the router?

There's a great tech that is called "wires" and it doesn't give you any troubles.

Technology is essentially one big problem after another that we have to solve 2009-10-20 20:03:00

Hmmmmm, I wouldn't like to think how many hours I've spent debugging a dodgey ethernet controller driver over the last month or so. It's the absolute bane of my life right now.

The issue with technology is the the ubiquity of it, combined with a general lack of understanding. We rely on so much tech to get us through our modern lives, and we need these devices to work, because we are lost without them. Yet we don't really understand how any of this stuff works, except at a very basic level.

Technology will never be simple again lets face it, I always have something wrong with something, in fact my headset is charged perfectly but the mic won't work when I'm playing fat princess when I know it works for that game v_v

maybe the wi-fi connection is because of your rhouter (or however its spelt) cheap ones tend to go off sometimes for me, I should know cos I'm using one now XD

I personally hate WI-FI because it doesn't seem to bring me more convenience than a wired network.
The day it will be easy to witness a wireless router that works better than a wired one,The day I will see faster wi-fi connections than wired ones and the day it will be as easy as a wired connection to set up, it will be the day I will vouch for WI-FI only.

I LOVE technology. But I don't like something because it's new, I want more convenience. REAL convenience, not flashy stuff like "oh look, there's no wire in my house, it's so beautiful".

I use wi-fi in my apartment since there's only one Ethernet plug (?) that's functioning throughout the house, and it's in a very not-helpful location (behind a couch). I could wire a 100 ft cable all the way to my computer upstairs, but I figured wi-fi would be easier.

There, a proper use for wi-fi.

------

Anyways, on to the OP's question - why are you unable to get reception elsewhere? Can't you move the router to somewhere more accessible? Unless of course you are piggy-backing off your neighbor's wi-fi (as I suspect)...

I've got my PC wired and my Ps3 wireless. Why? Because my PC has no wireless card and I had a spare cable and my PS3 has wireless and I didn't have a spare cable. Both scenarios were the most convenient at the time. I totally agree with you on the technology for technology's sake. But ethernet is a ***** when it's not working properly and you're digging through a few hundred pages of hardware specs and a few thousands of lines of source

I lurve wi-fi. Why? Because it's available anywhere on the Uni campus (for free obviously) and according to the online speedtest I just did I can download stuff with 16MB per second.

Still it's not as fast as the wired connection in my room...

I love technology I have never had any problems with technology.

I love having to press the toaster-handle down a hundred times to get the toast to stay. I love it. that's why I do it so much. It might sound like I'm screaming at it in a bloody rage, but those screams are screams of bloody joy.

I love it when my computer just decides to reboot all of a sudden. It's great. Again - this is why I've made sure that my computer does it so very often.

My Mac, I love just as much as my wonderful, lovely PC, because I get to look at a spinning beachball cursor ALL THE TIME! It's like a beach party 24/7! Who doesn't love beach parties?

It might look like I'm angry when I punch the walls and appear to throw temper tantrums, but those are all "glee" tantrums, and I'm merely experiencing the agony of happiness.

Yep, all sunshine and rainbows for me in technology land.

Have any of you guys seen the Louis CK interview on some talk show (forget who...) about technology? It's really funny. He talks about how todays youth is so ungrateful. Like when they're using their laptop and it is taking about 15 seconds to load a page, and they get all ****** about it. He says he's thinking, "It's going to space! Give it some time to get back from space to your computer!"2009-10-24 07:34:00

The problem with the internet is were still using the copper cables laid down for phone lines decades ago. They are designed to transmit voice. Only voice. They only just cope with the demands of the internet.
Slowly things are going to fibre optics and some new plastic technology...can't remember what it's called.
But with any luck it will soon all be killed off. Digital switch over. Know what that mean? Some space in the radio waves. Radio waves that have been used to transmit sound and video. Lots of it. With any luck the government will capitalise on this and turn the whole country (and with collaboration, the whole earth) into a hopefully free, fast, reliable internet hotspot.

When I was first connecting my PS3 to the internet I only had a USB modem and the PS3 doesn't recognise them.

My internet is supposed to be a lot faster than it is but the phone line limits it quite low.

When the phone answers a call it usually cuts off the internet for about 20 seconds even though the router and the phone are separated by a splitter (so they shouldn't have an effect on each other at all.

My old computer that broke a few years ago managed to get a virus in the anti-virus software and got loaded with viruses that made it really slow untill it broke.

My first Rock Band guitar's whammy bar broke (and the yellow button was annoying and kept getting stuck) so I asked the company for a replacement. I played two songs with the new one and then it's down-strum broke. I ended up with 3 Rock Band guitars at once for a week untill I had to send them off. Then the whammy bar broke on the new guitar so I just put an elastic band on it and it worked even better. The guitar strap kept falling off because it was starting to rip so I put another elastic band on it to hold it there.

My Rock Band drum pedal snapped over a month ago and it had a 3 year guarantee. I e-mailed them and they said to call a certain number, over the phone they said they'll send an e-mail so I can send them an e-mail saying the problems and that they'd be able to sort it out. I sent the e-mail 5 times corectly following the instructions and there still hasn't been a response. I tried fixing it with elastic bands but it still kept breaking. I tried attatcing a magnet to my foot to ativate the sensor but it was unreliable.

My first PS3's blu-ray broke and I had to get a new one...

I can't be bothered to say any more the list goes on and on.
