Switch-Activatable Checkpoints

Archive: 28 posts

The concept is simple - make checkpoints so that they can be activated by a switch.

No more having to break things in order to teleport somebody somewhere - just rig up a switch to the new checkpoint and you're on your way. No more having to move your checkpoint in survival challenges either - you can just activate another checkpoint above the start gate. Plus, imagine the possibilities- I just thought of a Level That Plays Itself using the device and clever ways of murdering sacks.

Your thoughts?

This would be a nice addition. And quite an obvious thing to add, if you ask me. Not only would it simplify survival challenge mechanisms, but it would offer a lot of interesting new gameplay. It might even be possible that such a feature was already in development - who knows?2009-10-19 05:53:00

Well OF COURSE you would. How could you "lose" this bet? The premise is that it will become a feature "one day".

A: It never became a feature. I'm sorry, but I get your house.
B: Well, it might become a feature tomorrow. I don't lose yet.

It's a bet that you would make where nothing would happen until, possibly, you win.

Even if MM went under, you could still argue that someone COULD pick up the IP in the future and put in that feature.

When do you lose this bet, when civilization collapses? When the human species goes extinct?

Objective statements that aren't realistically falsifiable tend to be complete junk for just that reason ... so yeah, if you can find someone to take you up on that bet, go for it.

Clarifying this with the version that was just edited away about 10 seconds after it was posted.

You think you heard something "in the wind" about it or jackofcourse may have "heard something in the wind" about it?

If this actually occurs, it would certainly be interesting.

That's what I've been wondering as well.

I'm with Jack though, but I'll change the supposition from "one day" to "soon". But "soon" is still up to interpretation.

I'll go with that too. Teleporters are becoming too common to not include this.

Although, I absolutely hate forced deaths... I like trying to ace levels.

If they did, they should have a return to checkpoint object, that returns you to a checkpoint without losing a life...

I can safely say this - it is time to end the unrestricted slaughter of checkpoints. I've witnessed the intentional crushing of innocent peaceful checkpoints for far too long.2009-10-19 23:07:00

Jagrevi caught on to my cheeky plan I see there...

My 52nd sense is telling me that it will be put into the game soon.

(If you would like to know all my other senses...tough).

This shouldn't be difficult to make, as it's just activating it.. Kind of removing the "sensor-switch", that's already in it.

I fully support this idea. I'd really like to be able to make a device that could kill you, and like that, make a roller coaster.. That'd be funny . It could also be used to simplify survival challenges, etc...

This getting stickied, could make it possible for MM to catch a glimpse of this idea, hm?

Why the creator pack? It could be really easy just to make it a update.

By putting it in Creator Packs, it lures people to go to the PS Store, also showing them other things, that isn't free, which could make them buy it, without really having had any thoughts about it before.
That's why they most likely put it in Creator Packs.. Also, if they have alot of stuff to add (Checkpoint Switches, Material Creator, Wind, Automatic Thermo reductioner (Material changes, where it's not necessary to have that material in particular) fx), it would be easier for new players to just start with something easy, without wandering around lost in the world of DLC.

@ARD: As I'm new to LBP Forums, I wouldn't know if MM checked forums often, at all, or only looked at stickied topics etc.

Well to be honest they don't check that much. Spaff posts here and there sometimes but that's it

Nah no way are Mm ever ever going to put this in the game!
It helps what, like 5 or so people who actually use telelporting - useless I tell you. And all these whispers about it are wrong - never ever ever

5 People? Seriously, I would think more people would want this feature..

Survival Challenges
Future Themed Levels
Intro Screens
etc.

There would be alot of ways to use this.. It could also perhaps, be used as a shuffle thing.. Die one place, be teleported to a random place (using a Random Logic), deciding which path to take. Really, there would be alot of ways to use this tool.

I agree, there's lots of ways that you can use this with, like say this could be used for a player struggling at a hard point in a level, and there's no checkpoint, the player then activates the checkpoint, past that point of the level, and then, if Sackboy/girl dies, they will respawn at that point of the level.

I would certainly like to lay my hands on an easy, thermo light teleporter. I'm fed up with having the screen black out for a second while a piston relocates you, then having to set up emitters to create the room around you before the lighting returns to normal. Far too much work, and it doesn't always work at all.

By the way, Risumm, love the idea of a random spawn point.

Oh, the irony of Coxy's reply, there.

Anyways, I'm not sure this thread has much purpose anymore.

Locked for MM resolution. (Go, Leerdammer!)
