3000 xp giveaway! Sequel to the smash hit!
Archive: 339 posts
So here it is - the sequel to the amazing 1500 xp giveaway! I hope there's just as much support this time round. Here's how it works: I need a word. A specific word. The word is of no significance etc., it's just a word. Follow a series of clues to find it. There is going to be a LOT less help from me this time round. If I were you, I'd work together. Hard. The current pot is 3000 xp Prizes will be determined thus: The winner (ie person who posts the correct word first) will receive 1500xp Anyone who gives a new and original insight into a new way forward (be it by finding the solution to a particular clue, etc), will receive a cut of the remaining xp. I warn you, this one is, IMO, much harder. I will be giving much less hints, and it'll be up to you to work your way through it. You will know when you've completed a certain stage, I'm sure of that. Of course, massive thanks to Sage, who donated 300xp, Syroc, who donated 1000xp, and a HUGE thanks to the wonderful CC, who donated 2500xp, 1100 of which will be carried over to the next round! PS: Do YOU think I'd make a good ballerina? I always dreamed of being one, and entered several competitions, but I stopped when my mother said, "bah, you look awful in a tutu." Nein! Won, oh, six times, I did, mother! Wish I'd shouted that at her at the time. Oh, well, I guess I never WILL be a ballerina. | 2009-10-18 21:19:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Important Revelations 1) comphermc spots 229106 in my PS 2) comphermc find post #229106 on the forums - an ancient post I'd edited a Belarussian text into 3) moleynator translates it to find "Your world of the text. Slash hidden messages." 4) Syroc discovers "http://www.yourworldoftext.com/hiddenmessages" 5) Syroc posits that --9 2 could be seen as 2^9=512 6) moleynator finds my PM on member 512, and my hidden image 7) From the blocks of morse code, comphermc decodes the second completely, and moley partially, giving a series of numbers 8) comphermc and dexiro discover that the numbers can be used to add spaces to the first block, and begin decoding it, starting with: "Sowheredoyou" 9) compher finds the full translation So where do you go from here? Well... i'll just give you the description of the word. in full. just find the actual word from its meaning. mkh qwsi uy e jwpj ihjwmujt e "mbnh wv y. evsugej ejured, qkugk gej mpsj ujmw e twwuvuhi ymemh (dufh ndeyre. ahddb) em qudd " 10) Frinklebumper and King_Tubb decode the scrambled definition 11) Dorien Dex wins! The word was splasmagorf, and was found in The Dictionary, a forum game where users make up definitions for made up words. Score tally: comphermc ||||| (5/12)*1500= 625XP <- donated to next round! moleynator || (2/12)*1500= 250XP Syroc || (2/12)*1500= 250XP Frinklebumper | (1/12)*1500=125XP King_Tubb | (1/12)*1500=125XP Dexiro | (1/12)*1500=125XP + 1500XP for winning it=1725XP <- donated to next round Total contributions = 12. Next round's pot stands at 3650XP ALREADY! Well done everyone, expect your XP soon! | 2009-10-18 21:20:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

Dang lol, too hard. Back to guessing random words. Popsicle? | 2009-10-18 22:11:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Keep looking at it. Remember, I try to make it so you have to look at things from a new angle - what moley was doing "was good, but it's not right", as they say. Also, I just made it UBERUBERHARD in the later stages! I'm going away on thursday, so I made it UBER TRICKY for you, to try and make it last longer! | 2009-10-18 22:14:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I think syroc is the only one trying lol | 2009-10-18 22:15:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |

It's Sunday night in Britain, and Sunday lunchtime/afternoon in America, and early morning in the east, so everyone is doing something else Oh, but it's different in Hyrule! Welcome, Sage! | 2009-10-18 22:16:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I am back! Im gonna have another look... Also, when I used internet explorer it came up saying undefined hundreds of times. I dont think it has anything to do with it. Just might be a problem for people that only have IE. The next clue might be something to do with the gaps in the sentence. | 2009-10-18 22:20:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |

It's Sunday night in Britain, and Sunday lunchtime/afternoon in America, and early morning in the east, so everyone is doing something else Oh, but it's different in Hyrule! Welcome, Sage! That's sounds like a (somewhat) regular greeting but I know there's something in there... | 2009-10-18 22:23:00 Author: Sage Posts: 2068 |
Another one? Do want! I'll be back once I read the original posts and catch myself up on what's happened. | 2009-10-18 22:23:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Your light. Slash. What is that supposed to mean? Hmmm... | 2009-10-18 22:25:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
Sage, like I said, I'm really going easy on the hints this time. You guys seem to have increased in ability though, comphermc solved that first bit SO FAST! CyberSora, the translation was posted by moley: Your world of the text. Slash hidden messages. Which led to: http://www.yourworldoftext.com/hiddenmessages | 2009-10-18 22:26:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
where's hyrule? | 2009-10-18 22:27:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
It's Sage's location, Hyrule is the main city in the LoZ games V.v | 2009-10-18 22:28:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Is YWOT supposed to read "sdsdsddssdssddssdsdsds"? It read something about 9 and 2 before. | 2009-10-18 22:28:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
compher, I think there's different ones. The first one I went to said something about "You've made it so far, your next hint is numbers" with a 9 and a 2. The second one had all the S's and D's. | 2009-10-18 22:29:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Mine has not changed at all since Dawes got rid of the g's and stuff on the left. EDIT: The 9th character (Not including spaces) is n and the second in the second line is o Is the clue 'no'? | 2009-10-18 22:31:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
I noticed if you scroll about, you get to a spot with 5 D's, 4 Z's, and 2 ZX's. | 2009-10-18 22:32:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Ahhh, here's where the link between teamwork and individual point hoarding comes into play. Someone has erased what was there in order to keep the clue to themselves! Feel free to replace it with what it was, but I will not do so. Moley, you're on /hiddenmessage, which was a temporary one, but it didn't work on the translator (it came out as "meaning" on the other end), so I created /hiddenmessages , which does keep its meaning. | 2009-10-18 22:32:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I noticed if you scroll about, you get to a spot with 5 D's, 4 Z's, and 2 ZX's. Oh noes! Man this is hurting my head... I seriously went on wikipedia and looked up the 2nd and 9th padawan, LOL fail... | 2009-10-18 22:33:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
Hehe, man, sure is good to see people going insane! Also, who erased the clue? I am not going to punish you, in fact, you will get a small reward for playing the game! | 2009-10-18 22:34:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
ahhh, here's where the link between teamwork and individual point hoarding comes into play. Someone has erased what was there in order to keep the clue to themselves! Is the clue the same as on http://www.yourworldoftext.com/hiddenmessage ? | 2009-10-18 22:35:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
Yes, but no doubt the same person will come and replace it! Also, we're well past an hour now, and approaching the time the other one was completed! A little tricky for you? | 2009-10-18 22:36:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Yes, it was. I added back something to the correct one. Edit: lol, someone moved the 2. I moved it back. | 2009-10-18 22:37:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Compher, that was you? I was watching as the words came up, it was kinda unnerving, hehe. | 2009-10-18 22:38:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn95/molejack/clue.png Im helpful. | 2009-10-18 22:39:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
Hehe, oh moley, you so kind! | 2009-10-18 22:39:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I think this should be in Community Contest. Anyways... This is tricky. I used translater and wikipedia.org, but still nothing. :/ | 2009-10-18 22:39:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
So, guys, what do we have besides 9 2 and padawan? | 2009-10-18 22:40:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Community contests is TECHNICALLY LBP-related only. Forum Games isn't for XP. Whaaaaale put his giveaway in gen chat, and he's a mod. Enough for ya? And I'm smiling that everyone is obsessing over the padawan reference. | 2009-10-18 22:42:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
The only thing I can think of is how the letter "I" on the keyboard is right where the 2 is in relation to the 9 in the hint. | 2009-10-18 22:42:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
So, guys, what do we have besides 9 2 and padawan? the ninth character in the first one is 'n' (Withought spaces) the 2nd in the second one is 'o'. no. I have NO idea if it is a clue. | 2009-10-18 22:43:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
No. Good thinking though. | 2009-10-18 22:43:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
And I'm smiling that everyone is obsessing over the padawan reference.I personally don't think the padawan reference is relevant. | 2009-10-18 22:44:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Nice to see you working together on YWOT, but if I were you, it's cleaner to post in here! | 2009-10-18 22:48:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
But it's so much faster to use that thing. | 2009-10-18 22:49:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Is the word torque? It looks so hard to solve, how many times can I guess? | 2009-10-18 22:49:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
So, since dawes said we should use the thread, I'll posit my latest theory. I noticed the 2 is to the left of the 9. Perhaps that means we should be doing something with 29 instead of 92? | 2009-10-18 22:50:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
I also don't think it's a coincidence that 9 and 2 are in 229106... | 2009-10-18 22:52:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
It used to say something like "Note the layout" when I first found that clue. | 2009-10-18 22:52:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Oh, hey, good catch, compher. I missed that. | 2009-10-18 22:52:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
It used to say something like "Note the layout" when I first found that clue. That is why i am trying to attribute those numbers to the sentences that were above them. | 2009-10-18 22:54:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
Or maybe it means 9 over 2, which is 4.5!? Oh ho ho! | 2009-10-18 22:54:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
Quick, everyone, find the 4th and a halfth thread on the forum! | 2009-10-18 22:55:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

So, we have to think less "laterally" on this one, right? I mean, compared to the last one. What does thinking laterally even mean? | 2009-10-18 22:57:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

I have no idea where to start with this thing xD Will i need to know something about padawan or star wars or something because i've never seen those. maybe 92 minutes into one of them theres a clue related to padawan? | 2009-10-18 23:14:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I still don't think the padawan reference means anythi---Wait. Never seen Star Wars? I think my heart just stopped. Anyway, if you read the original thing, it said something about "My young padawan, you've come so far, here's your next hint: --------9 -------2" | 2009-10-18 23:16:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

dandygandy, binary can be expressed in any form using any number of symbols: 11101001001010 acebgdfihjklmn I attributed a as the starting point for all 1s and b as the starting point for all 0s. Each time I came to a 1, I used the letter two ahead from the last, eg a->c->e->f. Same for 0s. Binary using 26 letters. Don't worry, this puzzle is no where NEAR as complicated. I'll tell you one thing - one of the posts at one time was close enough to crack the next stage. | 2009-10-18 23:59:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Well... That's just dumb. And would require AGES of work to decode to 1s and 0s so we could get the ASCII out of it. | 2009-10-19 00:01:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

But who and when? I'm going to go for a while, or possibly until tomorrow, guys. If you haven't found it yet, I'll be sure to hop back in. Good luck! | 2009-10-19 00:02:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Shame to see you go dandy, you were doing well, thinking laterally and what not! | 2009-10-19 00:04:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I'm back, but with nothing to add I'm afraid. | 2009-10-19 00:04:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
I am also going now. I might go on my PSP. It is 00:05 right now so I think Dawes will also leave soon. (School tomorrow...) | 2009-10-19 00:05:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |

http://i37.tinypic.com/2lbc28y.png Good luck. If you rotate the picture 90 degrees left, you get a picture closely resembling: http://webby2.googlepages.com/911.jpg This is probably useless. Just thought it looked interesting. | 2009-10-19 00:07:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |
Pfft, school schmool, it's a three-day week and then 1/2 term for me! Moop moop! And oh dear, compher's back, he's going to solve it all in five seconds! Have you thread through the whole thread? Also, theswweeet, it's 1500xp! With up to maybe 800 xp more up for grabs! Also, outlaw-jack...wow. | 2009-10-19 00:07:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Yeah, I read through it all - kudos to the 512 discovery. I have no idea what to do with the "morse code" though. | 2009-10-19 00:09:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
So far me, Syroc and compy are all on 2! Should we try adding all of the numbers up or finding the mean to find another member or thread or something? | 2009-10-19 00:09:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
i'm gonna wait and watch for a bit...this is making my head hurt a bit! | 2009-10-19 00:10:00 Author: theswweet Posts: 2468 |
Alright, the second paragraph of the morse code can successfully be translated as: 33341313343333433241315314466625444331324143314131 34324123234141333362243446433142231412413243333433 22132122223623443323414344244323411624243446143331 41433136433333142434342311333434242124633442314316 24334612433366 | 2009-10-19 00:11:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

By using a not-crappy decoder: http://www.qbit.it/lab/demorse.php | 2009-10-19 00:12:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Now what about the first section though? | 2009-10-19 00:13:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
ah yeah, i think we had those same numbers, the first bit messes up though | 2009-10-19 00:13:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
while im standing back i suppose i should tell you moley...check the sig exchange! i haven't got an awnser about whether or not someones making my stuff! | 2009-10-19 00:14:00 Author: theswweet Posts: 2468 |
The first section is probably not morse code. It doesn't have the breaks necessary, so I'm thinking it's probably binary but re-purposed to look like morse. | 2009-10-19 00:14:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
ah i never tried looking at the first section as binary | 2009-10-19 00:15:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Well, I think this one will take you guys longer to figure out than 2^9, hehe. And 2 and 9 were just two numbers, here you've got loads! | 2009-10-19 00:16:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
while im standing back i suppose i should tell you moley...check the sig exchange! i haven't got an awnser about whether or not someones making my stuff! Sorry, I think we are all really busy at the moment. It will be done eventually though. Seeing as the masses of numbers have seemingly random gaps in them I think they might all represent a number. Try finding the mean of each group. | 2009-10-19 00:17:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |

maybe it'd be quicker for us to work our way through a dictionary | 2009-10-19 00:20:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
It's not about guessing (though LBSB certainly tried last time ), but the puzzles. The key here is deciphering the first chunk, I'll tell you that. | 2009-10-19 00:20:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
well it's not backwards morse code, i can tell you that | 2009-10-19 00:21:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I am also going now. I might go on my PSP. It is 00:05 right now so I think Dawes will also leave soon. (School tomorrow...) Ok... 00:23 and I mean it this time. BYE! | 2009-10-19 00:23:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |

It definatly can't be morse without the spaces because then the letters could be anything, character length needs to be specified with morse. | 2009-10-19 00:41:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Well I'll drop a bomb on you: Maybe if the spaces have just been removed? | 2009-10-19 00:42:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I just said that You can't read morse without the spaces! | 2009-10-19 00:44:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
So how can you read THIS morse then? | 2009-10-19 00:47:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

That's a rather random choice of space distribution, especially as it reads "Sow5a" | 2009-10-19 00:53:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
First line is "Sowssddokodt" if you break after every 3... | 2009-10-19 00:54:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
that's why you need spaces dawes xD | 2009-10-19 00:54:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |

Well I guess you're going to have to find the right spacing for the spaces then! Honestly, you'd've thought I'd've left some sort of trail or clue to it! | 2009-10-19 00:57:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

Dawes, why do you enjoy tormenting us so? I just popped on for a moment to see where everyone's at. I don't have the time to help, not do I fully understand what you're doing anyway. Good luck and good night. | 2009-10-19 01:15:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Hehe, hoho, if only you knew... Also, compher, that is WEIRD. Try again from where it started going wrong. I'll do it at the same time. | 2009-10-19 01:16:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Yeah, I'm getting the lines not matching up. There is an extra letter at the end of the second line, which makes an "e". It also doesn't recognize your question mark, I believe. | 2009-10-19 01:19:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
