$20 to burn on lbp. What would you recommend?

Archive: 23 posts

For those who have purchased or are familiar with the lbp dlc add-ons... What advice would you give in the following situation.

The gadder has $20 in Playstation Store wallet.
Is interested in buying lbp dlc content with the $20.
So far has only downloaded the free lbp download content.

What add on content would you recommend he/or she invest in?

Metal Gear Solid Pack, History Pack, Monster Pack, New Music Pack, and maybe a sticker pack, depending on your preference.2009-10-17 21:59:00

The MGS Level Kit.

The Monster Kit.

The History Kit.

That's about $14 right there, but if you're a creator, I'd recommend these.

Plus, even if you're not a creator, I'd get the MGS pack. (5 levels including a survival challenge.)

The only things besides those are costumes. With occasional stickers, and rarely, sound effects.

EDIT: I forgot the Music kit. Probably because I don't have it yet...

Definately the MGS pack, especially because of the paintinator.
The monster pack, the history pack and the music pack are all good, just depends what you like and which would be the most useful to you.

I would pass on the monster pack, honestly, unless you see yourself making a horror themed level anytime soon. I haven't really found much of it to be useful yet...

Definitely MGS pack, though. Then you'll probably want the history kit (it's pretty cheap), and maybe the Killzone 2 pack (it's got some nice stickers).

The rest is really up to your preferences.

Hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up...

Before we go recommending what to spend the 20 on, I think it bears asking ...

Is having money to spend on LBP rare for you? Would you be unlikely to be in this opportunity again a month from now? Two months? 4?

Because depending on how limited a budget you're on, if this is a one time opportunity to spend money on the game, we are assuming that the upcoming water-inclusive pack will cost something, no?

Now I don't know if it's next month, or early next year, but I think we should at least bring up the idea of saving some of it.

I said "This much I vow" and went into the Killzone 2 opening sequence, where Visarri says "The history of these days will be written in blood"

But if you get any LBP DLC, MGS is the only REAL choice- everything else is just pleasent bonuses .

I don't agree. A lot of decorations could be used for regular animals, fairytale creatures, fantasy stuff like Lord of the Rings or D&D. The materials have some applications outside horror, especially with some stickering. The music and background are not very horror at all, with the right light settings the background serves in a mountain or woods setting better than any other.

The rest of the thread reminded me of: If I could offer you only one tip for the DLC, the MGS pack would be it. The long term benefits of the MGS pack have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now.

Personally I would get the MGS pack, History kit, Monster kit and costume pack, and the music pack (in the very real sense that I did this, only this weekend funny enough). This is in euros though, not sure what they would add up to in dollars. The first three should be very useful to any creator, the music pack only if you like the songs. The costume pack I picked because it's not that expensive, I like vampires, and I could use the parts to improve various costumes I put together (unicorn horn for my ronso ).

But trust me on the MGS pack...

For levels
MGS pack
Creator pack 1
music pack

Music and sounds
History kit
Monster kit
ICO

Then the rest depends on if you like making costumes/stickers

You dont like the Background from the monster pack and the tweakable music track, not to mention the sound effects?

Anyways i would suggest the metal gear level kit. the Monster Pack, and the history kit and you should also maybe hold off to see if the water/online create are going to be free.

All these packs add to your create tool box so they are good, the rest are only stickers and costumes which are basically useless.
With these packs you get new game play from metal gear pack (paintinator), and they all give new materials, sound effects (lately i glad i have all the possible sound effects, sound really adds a lot to the experiance of the level and when your looking for the right noise its good to have all the possible choices. I would to see mm roll out a sound effect pack), and music tracks.

Also the music pack should be good i been meaning to get that. But i would put that up last on the list as it only adds some tweakable music , which is good for atmosphere, and some stickers, which as i said before adding more stickers to your toolbox is not very usefull as you mostly use them to color stuff and it is pretty easy to get get the look you want using the origianl stikers and creative use of the camera to create your own stickers.

I wanna know what is best, Monster or History?

I already have MGS pack, so I don't need to know anything about that.

ICO

I considered it but wasn't convinced. To me it seems the costumes are too specific, not many parts that would be useful to combine in new costumes, and the same goes for the sound. Why do you recommend it?

I wanna know what is best, Monster or History?

I have not much experience with either yet, but personally I prefer the History kit. I like the music and materials better, and overall the contents have more uses. But it's a close call, depending on what levels you are building the Monster kit might suit you better. I say get them both.

I prefer the monster pack, better song (I love it!) and a whole heap of new decorations, while the history kit only has a few.

I am making a middle-eastern themed level. In a war zone. Which one would you suggest now?2009-10-19 20:05:00

Hmm, tricky. The middle-eastern theme suggests the History kit, there's a middle-eastern section in the demo level which includes a nice blue-white patterned tile material. But for the warzone you might want some severed sackboy limbs and death cry sound effects from the Monster pack...

You should check out the pack announcements Mm site, they have some pictures. Does anyone know of a good DLC directory that shows all the contents including pictures?
