Uncharted 2 Spoiler Thread - Give your review here!

Archive: 84 posts

Many of us have had the pleasure of playing Uncharted 2 the past couple of days. Here is a thread that you can write your thoughts/impressions without the worry of spoilers. Maybe give us your quick impressions, or you could treat it like a LBP level and give us what you think are the pros and cons

There are spoilers in this thread! Don't say I didn't warn you!!

I am at the point where you slide down the rope line in the city with the helicopter. I'll write my full review once I'm done with the game.

Well I loved the game! It had a TON of ups, but some of the parts were a bit down for me just because they were so hard D: Especially the first time you verse the Blue Skin guys in Shamballa. Btw, what do we call them? I'm thinking of calling them Shamballers. (Gettit? )

Also, if you don't know about the 'Beast Mode' trophy, I made a tutorial to get it:

A few notes on the story of this game. Note that below are spoilers covering big stuff including the ending!!

How many freaking times is Drake going to jump off something that's crumbling beneath him just to barely make a handhold on a ledge - or get caught by someone at the last second? For reals.

I feel like they're utilizing a bit of a formula from the previous game. There's the point where dead nazis are strewn about, and the "monsters" show up.

I actually liked them a LOT more when they were just Yetis - so much scarier, and they didn't have guns, and they climbed all over everything, and they're faster than you - and they're freaking demon yetis!!
Once they turn out to just be big blue dudes, it's far less freaky.

Did anyone notice that the way to kill them is with the crossbow? 2 crossbow shots seem to send them down. As opposed to ALL THE AMMO YOU HAVE with any other guns, and then some.

I had a good laugh at the ending. The little ad-libbed exchange between Drake and Elena was actually quite funny. "So what's a 10?" "Clowns." "...Clowns???"

I noticed that too! I was using up all my ammo for my AK, then had a long fist fight, and once I had killed one, I took his crossbow and one-shotted the other! I was like o_0

BTW, I don't like that you can't buy the Golden Crossbow or the other crossbow! I really wanted it, but it isn't there! D:

Also, the game is missing two buttons I wanted: A 'Restart Chapter' button, as if you want to redo a whole chapter, you gotta go to the main menu, select it, then wait for it to load instead of instantly going to the beginning. And, a rewind feature for cinema mode, which makes making videos a pain in the butt!

And finally, if you want to know how to easily get the 'Dyno-mite' trophies, I made a video to get them all in one throw:

I **** my pants.
The game is really insane.
As Rangerzero said, it puts other devs to shame.
No matter how long the game is, it will ever be too short.
I'm gonna replay it after finishing Brutal Legend and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.
Anyway I had a blast.
Shambalah in the rain is awesome.
I watched all the videos and I was OMG!

I'm back! Just taking a break after blowing up the helicopter in Nepal.
And HOLY CRAP...this is ****ing epic! The number of times I've said "holy ***" at the same time as Drake...this game might just be the best I have ever played, ever ever.

The scene with the chopper and the hotel...while it was collapsing...I mean...Christ I love this game

I haven't finished the game yet so I don't think I should be here, but as I am at chapter 25 I don't think it really matters.

I really agree with someone above me here (can't remember who) that the demons were a lot scarier when they were demons, at least the first one that you see when you climb up the ladder in the ice tunnel scared the **** out of me

I haven't bougt anything from the bonus shop, as I wanted to play it properly the first time, when I play on hard I may look what I have there

Some parts I found kind of frurstrating as I had no idea where I should go and the right way to go was to jump on a wall or grab a rope.

Anyway, this must be the best game I have played so far, at least the best uncharted as you really can't compare all games and LBP still rocks

I haven't finished yet 9on chapter 22)... but I'm REALLY hoping that it ties into the first one with Lasarravetch (butchered that name ) having been the one to hire Navarro to get him El dorado in the first game- know it won't happen but it would rule.2009-10-18 17:11:00

Overall, I thought the first 20 chapters of the game were terrific. The story and the pacing of the gameplay was perfect. I do feel that the last couple chapters are pretty weak though. The gun battles started to dominate the level design and the story introduces a couple elements that I felt were completely unnecessary. One example is the yetis. I thought they looked horrible when they first showed up. I even thought to myself, "Man, such great design everywhere else, but these yeti's just look like a guy in a bad costume." Turns out, it was a guy in a costume, so I guess the character design was actually spot on!

The other downer for me was the final boss fight. I found it to be rather lame and pretty frustrating. There were times where I would have him down to the last hit, only for Drake to grab on to a ledge when I'm trying to jump off it, or getting stuck in the environment and being killed. Then, I'd have to start the fight over, watching every little sequence again. It just kind of ruined it for me. I guess I expected more of a hand to hand fight, similar to the guy on the train.

Anyway, I'm kind of rumbling about some of the things I disliked, but really, they all pale in comparison to the game as a whole. It's absolutely fantastic and the good far outweighs the bad. I loved it!

Great game and I'm already replaying it (gotta get to crushing ).

Started off well, got amazingly great in the city and the train.

Things went a bit downhill at the snowy bit until you got to the giant ice bit shown off in a trailer awhile back, the bit with all the jumping around.

Then the temple bit I thought was much worse than the other bits. Some of the graphics even got a bit too ps2 for my liking.

However everything got wrapped off in the epicness of the lost city which i sooo hope will be made into a co-op.

The boss fight was good but a bit easy, beat it first time but I liked Zoran's acting throughout.

I noticed something funny but it might be elsewhere in the game too. Right after the section where you're throwing gas cans in the river to "un-jam" the cars so that you can cross the river. Right after that there's a little area with a shootout. Once you've killed everyone go up and to the left. Look at the signs on the signpost in the middle of the area. There's an image of a flying pig. It has angels wings and a human like face. Looked hilarious. It HAS to be a little loller from the devs.2009-10-18 20:29:00

I kept thinking of The Fountain the whole time I played this. Like it would've been an awesome movie but I am so glad its a game. The downside, and not on the developers part is the Co-op. If you aren't that good at this game and you struggle to play it on normal, you might have trouble finding people to play with you.
By the way, I'm not horrible but I haven't played co-op but like 5 minutes, so if anyone would like to play and let me enjoy that aspect of the game, add me. I prefer Voice Chat to make it easier but its not necessary.

I haven't finished the game but I am somewhere around chapter 22. For the past few years I've been craving a game (or series) that really gives me those "holy crap" moments. We all had those with the Metal Gear Solid series, and the Final Fantasy series (to name some favorites). And for me personally, I also had those moments with games from the Myst series. All of those games I preordered, waited for months (sometimes years), and just couldn't wait to get my hands on them. Everyone has their list of favorite games (series) of all time, and for me, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Among Thieves are now a part of that list. Unlike most games that come out today, Uncharted 1 and 2 will be talked about for years to come - even if I'm the only one still talking about them

I'll be back with my review once I'm finished. And after I review it, I'm going to go play it again

A con for me was the ease of the game. A pro was how long it was. I first popped it in and only made it halfway with my first sit down with it. The next day i finished it and then started it on crushing and it was much faster knowing where to go. The thing that's gonna take up time is finding the treasures and i got 50 so far. I can see a full co-op mode in a Uncharted 3 (Drake and Elena) but not limited to that. I enjoyed the game and actually like playing through it even after beating it. The funniest moment for me was when the blue guys (shamballers lol) literally beat Lazarevic to death. All in all its a good game and im glad i picked it up. I kinda wished they did voice work for the different skins though but, that might have been to much for them it wouldve been cool.2009-10-19 17:41:00

Just finished it. Probably my favourite game ever. (Apart from LBP but I've stopped counting that really, I don't see it so much as a game anymore, it's more of a hobby).

I agree that the later chapters are a little weaker than the earlier ones. On the train and the parts with the helicopters etc were outstanding. I felt like a part of the difficulty in one of the later chapters was the dark and rainy conditions making it harder to see. Which I felt was a bit of cheap way to do it.

On the whole the later chapters didn't have as much 'wow' about them as the earlier ones. Especially graphics wise. Whether this could partly be down to just playing it for so long that you don't tend to notice or concentrate as much any more I'm not sure. But I deifnitely stick by the earlier chapters being better.

Another thing that could be part of this way of thinking is the fact that it's the later chapters when the creatures come in. I was never a fan of the creatures in the first one and that was one aspect I wished they'd let out of the series. I'm just not a big fan of the whole supernatural thing (in regards to this game anyway).

Overall without doubt 10/10. Most polished game ever made.

I kinda wished they did voice work for the different skins though but, that might have been to much for them it wouldve been cool. I second, third and if needed fourth that. And while they are at it, they can make the collision better on doughnut Drake, looks like his hands are in his belly. I wanna see the day when they make the character skins more like the actual character, like when you have the CSI light on Chloe and you have her skin, her shirt is purple and yours is red. I understand the processing power issue though 2009-10-19 20:43:00

How long did it take you guys to finish it? I played it all weekend and finished it in 14 hours, couldn't put it down!

I'll probably be taking a break from playing other games because of the treasures, crushing mode, trophies, in-game medals and multiplayer. So far I think I have like 55 treasures.

I'm sort of mad I didn't just beat it on hard in the first place...Now I gotta do that and crushing, but I'm like 1/3 of the way through on hard.

I also thought that the final boss was a bit easy. It's basically run, dodge and shoot resin, though it was intense.

and just wow on how Lazarevic died...wait can he die anymore? O_o Brutal...wait nvm yes he can.

Amazing game! Good job Naughty Dog! Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a movie, the cutscenes just feel different from other cutscenes in games. UC2 cutscenes feel like watching an epic movie. Other games cutscenes feels like watching regular game cutscenes.

Finally finished it earlier, and...holy crap...
Every single second was the most epic thing ever...
You've done it again, Naughty Dog! I loved the Crash moments like running away from stuff and the collapsing bridges

Everything about this game is so incredibly awesome...just...christ almighty.

Favorite level has got to be the train one though, and the way they tied it in with the first level...genius!

Finished it early this morning, excelent game but the plot twists were predictable considering the events of DF.

The fursuiters take far to long to die.

There's no way drake would be doing his stuff 3 days after that kind of injury.

The diary was a nice touch with all it's little notes and doodles.

I promised a review and man.. where to start?!

*spoilers - don't read if you haven't finished it!*

Initial Thoughts

As many of you have already said, there were so many 'wow' moments throughout the game that I felt like I couldn't put the controller down (which is exactly what they were going for if you watch the bonus videos). Overall this game has become one of my favorite games of all time - and I don't say that lightly. Uncharted as a 'series' has become high on my list as well. I'm a huge fan of action, exploration, puzzle solving games, so for me personally this game delivered the best possible flavor combination I could ask for. I'll try to break down my review with these different 'flavors' in mind.

Action (Gameplay)

The first thing I noticed was that the action sequences (fire fights, running and jumping for your life, etc) never became frustrating. Even if I died once by accident, I quickly figured out what needed to be done. There was almost always a trick to every situation. Sure the blue demon guys were tough, but (as someone already mentioned) pump them with two arrows from the cross bow and they go down whimpering. Also, the guys with shotguns were heavily armored, but 2 well placed head shots (one for the helmet, the other for the kill) take them out easily enough. Did anyone else notice that the grenade placement was easier without the motion sensor this time around? I liked all the different elements they put in the game play. For example, propane tanks! Granted, there were an excessive amount of propane tanks around (and not one grill!), but they were so fun to blow up! Overall, I didn't have any problems with the game play. Everything felt very intuitive, and I didn't get lost (partly because of the superb camera angles throughout the game).

Puzzles

If you're familiar with my LBP levels, then you know that I am a huge fan of figuring stuff out. I felt that the puzzles in Uncharted 2 were a bit easy, but also extremely well done and original. I loved how the secondary character had 'jobs' to do as you progressed through the puzzle. The ability to flip through Drake's entire journal was a nice touch. And I also liked how each puzzle was linked together with the golden dagger key. The huge section with the three spinning bells on each side just blew my mind. The gears were great as well. And speaking of visuals...

Graphics

I say this with ease and confidence: Uncharted 2 has the best graphics on any console to date - by FAR. The amount of detail put into this game was simply astonishing. I found myself just looking around a lot because I couldn't get enough of the awesomeness I have to respectfully disagree with some who said the first half of the game looked better than the second half of the game. I'm the type of gamer who loves to just look around when I get the chance, and believe me, each chapter was incredibly designed and no chapter seemed 'under par.' Granted there were a few chapters that stick out and just went above and beyond anyone's expectations, but I did not feel that any chapter 'lacked' detail or graphic superiority. Also worth mentioning is the thunderstorm at the end. I didn't feel that this was cheap - in fact, I felt that it was amazing. The way the environment changed as is got wet, and the thunder all around you, yeah it was most definitely the 'perfect storm.' I didn't have any trouble with the lighting. There might have been one or two very small sections where I wished Drake would have turned on his light, but not so I could see where to go. I wanted him to turn it on so I could just see what was in those few dark corners The bonus videos talk about how much time they spent on the lighting. They meticulously tested each scene with various lighting options until they found what they thought worked well with the camera angles. I could tell while I was playing that they put a lot of effort into the lighting, because it blew me away the whole way through the game.

Story

As you well know, the Uncharted games are very story driven. Uncharted 2 had an amazing story line, with very well developed supporting characters that each helped to reveal a little bit about Drake in a unique way. Speaking of characters, it's worth mentioning that the acting in this game is the best acting I've seen in any game, period. I think most of you would agree with that statement, although I understand it's completely opinion based Nolan North and the gang returned to deliver an outstanding performance. I was especially pleased to see that Claudia Black played Chloe. If you've ever watched some of the later seasons of Stargate SG-1, then you know she is a top notch actor. Actually, it was funny because the character of Chloe was very similar to her Vala character in SG-1 - so, she was a great choice. The ending kept me guessing, and I was extremely relieved that Elena survived and ended up with Drake at the end (I warned you of spoilers!). The only thing that bothered me was that they never explained why Drake and Elena didn't stay together after the end of the first Uncharted. Lastly, I liked that the demon guys were real people in costumes. That seemed to be more realistic than zombies (but hey, anything goes in video games!).

Sound

This is worth a quick mention. Greg Edmonson (composer of the first Uncharted and the Firefly tv series) returns and hits a grand slam. I absolutely loved the music in this game. It was so rich, and seemed to fit each environment perfectly. Being a drummer, I was obviously impressed with the percussive pieces, but the odd stringed instruments that I can't even name were a very nice touch. Did I say the storm at the end sounded amazing? Yeah, I think I did

Overall

I've said this to my friends, and now I say it to you (my LBPC friends!), Uncharted 2 will be a game that's talked about for years to come. This was clearly a huge step forward in gaming on the PS3, and gaming in general. Other developers (imo) now have a new standard to match and maybe exceed. I keep thinking Metal Gear Solid 4 was so epic, and it too will go down in the history books. MGS4 seemed unsurpassable, and maybe in some ways it was. But Uncharted 2 is definitely the new hot-shot in town. It set the new standard at which we gamers expect from developers. In the bonus videos, one person from the Naughty Dog team said something to the effect that they are using the PS3 engine in ways that other developers haven't even tried - and I believe them. And to be honest, I'm most impressed with how the technology behind the game, the story, and the gameplay elements all came together to form what I would consider a true masterpiece. It was just 12 and a half hours of pure awesomeness, and now I need to do it all over again ...I haven't even touched multiplayer yet!

Pros:
- Top Notch Visuals
- Amazing Storyline
- Sound quality among the best
- Very Fun
- High Replayability
- A "Must Buy" for PS3 owners

Cons:
- I found one glitch in the entire game. The bridge in Shangri-La (after the sniper section) collapsed and as I was climbing it, the bridge stopped falling apart and the camera froze in its' position, leaving me to continue to climb, but I couldn't see where to go. I let go, died, replayed the scene and it worked perfectly. I think I can forgive one glitch considering that most games these days have tons.
- I wish I knew what happened between Nathan and Elena after Uncharted 1. Maybe they'll explain that in U3?

Overall:
11/10 because it exceeded what I thought was possible on a console, and in video games in general.

Wonderful review, very spot on.
I agree 100%
Now I can't wait for U3...
What I want...
A motorcycle section.
Underwater scuba section.
Halo jumping with parchute section.
Then we had Eldorado, Shangri-La, so I can't expect anything less than Atlantis itself

I started my second play through tonight (if you missed my review, it's two posts up from this one). This time around I'm really looking for those treasures. I've found quite a few, and I even found the relic! I also saw a monkey, so I shot him, and he just ran away lol Also, did anyone notice the signs for the El Dorado hotel? That's a nice little tie in to the previous game I just noticed that the chapter select from the main menu will not only tell you what difficulty you completed the chapter on, but also how many treasures you have left to find in that chapter.2009-10-23 04:05:00

Man, does crushing really show how little checkpoints are in this game. It gets quite frustrating where you battle through an army, just to be killed with a headshot by the last guy. I was once killed on a moving train, from 2 cars away with a shotgun through a WALL. It was really cheap.

But if it has many checkpoints it's a great challenge. I'm at the Monastery now, can't wait to beat it and unlock the last 2 skins! And replaying crushing with an infinite ammo grenade launcher will be fun, and make all those guys who killed me pay! Mwuhahaha!

I'm up to Chapter 19ish, playing on Hard 7 hours in and i'm surprised at how short it is. (longer than the original?? surely not) There have been some brilliant sections so far, the train segment in particular was stellar, but overall I don't rate it as high as Fortune. Everything is tighter, and the graphics are jaw-dropping in places, but i kinda miss the Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones throwback flavour that the original has in spades, but seems in short supply here. Still, minor quibbles aside, its awesome.2009-10-23 18:58:00

Hey, I just beat it, so I can stop by this thread now. I played it on easy (I suck alright, give me break) and loved it. It really was a game that didn't want to be put down. For the first time in 6 months, a game has pulled my attention away from LBP. I started briefly playing through a second time looking for secrets and such. I'm thinking of bumping it up to hard - think I'll drown?

One thing I'll say is that you can complain about the last few chapters being weak, but you can't deny the immense variety in play areas. You are literally exposed to a dozen completely different environments, and all of them seem to mesh with the game equally as well. Which area was the best looking? Honestly, the city you wake up in and walk through after you are saved from the snowstorm. It really looked fantastic, and I was actually laughing at how good everything looked.

The only thing I didn't like about the yeti guys (before we found out what they are) was that it forced you to use run and gun (sorta), but the run and gun camera angle was out of control. I usually ended up backed into a wall that I couldn't see coming. Eventually, I had to resort to just running and diving in circles... was this intended? I actually had more of a problem with the big armored guys. Yes, I understand that it takes two shots to the head to kill them, but they just shake off a grenade at their feet? Yeah, ok...

The final boss for me wasn't too bad. I figured out right away what I was supposed to do. I think? We were just supposed to shoot the blue sap when he ran by them, right? I beat it first try (hey, on Easy, go figure), but it was annoying how long it took. I ended up just running circles around the room, only to pause and shoot twice a lap, or so.

So, yeah. Great game. The best looking I've seen. The "oh sh*t!" moments got a little old by the end, but I loved the scenes where you had to run with a fixed camera as the environment collapses around you, etc...

This is one thing that really bugs me about about the Uncharted games. I feel it takes way too many shots to take someone down. I shot one of the big machine gun toting guys with four rockets on normal difficulty before I brought him down. Now, maybe I was off just a bit on one or two of those shots, but I know that I was spot on at least once and that should be enough. Especially if I brought down a tank with like 4 or 5 rockets earlier.

Yeah I have to agree. And it's interesting that if you use a crossbow, it only takes 2 shots or so to take them down. I wonder if those arrows are poisoned? I don't remember the game saying much about them.

Lol, you think it was long on easy, my gosh, he is PAINFUL to verse on Crushing, took me so many tries. You have to explode more than 20 sap things before he goes down, and he has a Triple barreled shotgun (HAX!) which makes it evil!

But after beating crushing and getting Platinum, I went back to the Crushing fight, and just used a grenade launcher with infinite ammo on him. Oh it made me feel so much better, showing him who has the hax now! MWUHAHAHA!

Yeah, now I'm gonna record all the costumes >: D

The section that impressed me most is the temple below the city in Nepal.
The one with the big dagger in the centre.
The colours and lighting is so vivid and life like, it's incredible.
Then Shambalah under the rain is sick, never saw anything like that.

I've spent just about all day so far (5 hours or so) treasure hunting around the different chapters. I've found 62 treasures and the strange relic so far.

How many treasures have you guys found? just curious.

EDIT - since RockSauron mentioned it, I should say that I haven't used any hints or cheats yet.

I got somewhere between 30 and 40 treasures according to my trophies on my first playthrough without using any hints or FAQs.

Yeah, I played on Hard my first time... will play through on curshing one of these days... ONE of these days :kz:

But the final boss was really tough for me on hard- but fun, I loved it.

And the train? It's just a technical masterpiece, no? A rapidly shifting background that updates itself as you proceed into a seperate loop seamlessly? :O

What I noticed about the train is every time I died while it went up the mountain, the mountain changed which side of the train it was on. It looked stupid

Did you perchance enable the flip-world 'cheat'? If so, then it's your own fault, not the game's.

Nope. But now that I think of it, that would make it even weirder. It would be completely random lol.

I played it on super easy and he did throw me 8 granades.
Well...that's not a problem perhaps.
The first time I had to play the game in a furious blast since I've 2 hours daily reserved for videogame and I wanted to see it all quickly, now I'm playing it on easy, to cash some money and find all the secrets, as I said I didn't explore much in the first walkthrough, I only got 24 treasures and finished the game in 9 hours.
I will play it on all difficulties since the game is awesome.
Is anyone here playing it online?
I think I will play it only to gather the online trophies, but co op with friends could be fun.

Hmmm... maybe I just forgot about the grenades? I honestly don't remember dodging any.

Right now I'm in "must get all the trophies and treasures" mode... after that fizzles out, I'll work my way over to the multiplayer I'm definitely excited for multiplayer, as it seems there are some really cool variations to it.

Finally beat this last night and have been playing a lot of the multiplayer.

I beat it on normal, beat the final boss in my first try... I just kept blowing up the plants. To be honest I thought the ending was kind of silly, wish we had a bigger chance to explore shambala. Also wish there was more puzzle solving... or something.

The gunfights just seemed to drag on towards the end but enjoyable nonetheless, will play through again for crushing etc.

Ok, I finally managed to get onto multiplayer for the first time since the beta, and I'm addicted.

Was playing with some friends yesterday (including Ghost) we we had an awesome time. I started off pretty crap, but towards the end I was doing ok I seem to do really well at the end of games where I go into a frenzy of sorts, shotgunning everyone in the face. I think I got about 4 kills in the last few seconds of one match
Managed to get to level 11, but still have to play through the story on the new account, so I don't lose trophies or anything.

The offline game? On my third full playthrough, and am constantly going back to my favorite levels. Locomotion & Tunnel Vision, Urban Warfare & Desperate Times...just holy crap I love this game so much

I played very easy then easy to rack up some moneys (because you can treasure hunt again) but skipped to hard to go ahead and unlock crushing. When I beat it on Hard it counted as beating on all the other difficulties, definately something I wish I knew.
I have been playing co-op practically everyday that I could get on, I use it as a warm up for the main game. I think crushing is going to kill me, I'm horrible at headshots.

How sensitive is the "punishment system?" I could see myself accidentally shooting a teammate. Do you have to shoot them several times to get kicked out (hopefully)?

Good story - wish I could've been there. *waiting semi patiently for my PS3 to be fixed*

You need to kill them a few times. If someone's doing it to you you get a message asking if you want to 'kick' or 'forgive'.2009-11-02 17:25:00

Thanks ARD. I like the idea of the player being in control of kicking or forgiving. Are there other factors that warrant punishment?

Wow... just completed it, that was honestly the best game i've ever played!

The 'Up' moments were amazing, i've never had my adrenaline rushing so much from playing a game xD
Like when you're fighting the helicopter and the building you're in collapses, or when you're running down the train trying to avoid the missles. The train sequence was sooo long but every bit of it was awesome xD

For some reason i always thought this game had skeletons in, i think i must of saw those elite soldiery-types and thought they were skeletons.
Those blue things were cool though, i thought they looked like the na'vi from Avatar

No kidding dude! Gawww!! Just shoot him, stupid!! What do you THINK is going to happen??

Actually, I thought he was going to turn into a big tentacled uber-beast, so, kind of pleasantly surprised in a way. Instead he just turned into MORE of a jerk, who liked to throw lots of grenades and run around really fast screaming.

I think they should add some kind of DLC for the weapons that aren't available, like the crossbow. And ever since the first one, I really really want that laser sight. In Drake's Fortune, the first time I killed one of those laser scope guys I thought "Awesome, laser sight" only to be disappointed. Sad face. I know the laser would give you away but sometimes you just want to see something cool.2009-11-04 07:02:00

The only thing about the game is that you are basically handed the hard and crushing trophy (my opinion). What i mean is that you dont lose anything if you die. if you had a weapon you can pick it up again in that secton but it will be taken from you in the next chapter anyways. compared to other games (demons souls i've read that dying will cost you a lost you dont want) you can just keep going until you pass the section your dying in. Its like playing the movie "Next" where your basically trying every possible way until you get it. And if you played it on another difficulty you know where your enemies are and how to beat them the only challenge is that it takes less hits to kill you but thats the reason you can get behind cover. Its frustrating but its easy.2009-11-04 17:06:00

The problem with the difficulty settings is that they simply aren't difficult enough. The hard setting wasn't exactly a challenge coming in fresh to the game and I haven't played crushing yet but I very much doubt it's actually "crushing", even without the numerous checkpoints allowing you to just throw yourself in over and over again until you get it right.

If you are going to put difficulty settings in a game they should go up to the point where 99% of players stand no chance of getting through the hardest setting.

Forgot to mention it earlier, i thought it was really fun

And i don't think making the 100% mark of a game only accessible to 1% of the audience would be a good idea at all in such a popular mainstream game.
Uncharted isn't really the type of game that's made to be difficult either, if you raise the difficulty too much it just becomes more and more frustrating.
Besides i think it's more of a cinematic experience than a flat out challenge

TBH, it wasn't that long ago where a lot of mainstream games had difficulty settings that the majority of players couldn't complete. I just think that having difficulty settings where the majority of people can complete the hardest difficulty undermines the entire concept of variable difficulty. Also, higher difficulty settings - optional higher difficulty settings - do not preclude everyone enjoying the game and getting the cinematic experience. That's what the lower and mid difficulties are for.

All it comes down to is the trophies, it's a shame they actually have an impact on what features are included in a game.

RTM223, the Hard difficulty to my knowledge is not that hard at all. I skipped the normal and jumped to hard to go ahead and unlock crushing. I wouldn't say I flew through it and there were definitely some parts where I thought "You...stupid...what...how are you supposed to...uhhhhh....grrr" end quote, but it was more fun than running through on easier difficulties. Crushing so far is stomping me. I'm still trying to pass The Dig.
I agree though that the difficulty should be higher on games, but not to difficult. I want to feel like I can and then get beat into a pulp, but later go back and try it different.

I'd say the story was a bit dull compared to the last and the final boss battle was way too easy. I played it on hard for my first play through and had no difficulty beating him without dying.

Still a fantastic game, it just seems like they were a bit rushed at the end.

The difficulty of crushing is hard to quantify you obviously die alot faster but you've also had 1 or 2 runs through on other difficulties to find the best cover positions, practice headshots and learn enemy positions.2009-11-05 09:44:00

Thats exactly the way i see it. Compared to a different franchise such as fighting games, you will have to change the way you play to accomodate your opponent. A game like this all you have to do is get behind more cover and aim for the head or pick up a heavier weapon no real strategy just handicapped. I did enjoy the game but, once i beat it i was thinking "thats it?"
