Video here: YouTube - "Who's Stealing Our Delicious Delicious Brains," a spooky LittleBigPlanet level

I tried to pull some pretty original stuff here. Several unique creatures which are all destructible - you can pull off their arms/legs/head for fun! There's lots of timing-based platforming and enemies, where you have to kind of watch them to learn the pattern. I also tried for a creative movement illusion with the "haunted hellevator bit" at the end. And a twist ending that I promise you won't see coming!

Just checked it out and thought it was hilarious. Very whimsical style and the creatures are strange but funny. Loved the colors you choose for the lighting and the mosiac blocks are very pretty. The spine motif carried throughout the level was nice too. Found the platforming solid and the spikes, coming down was an interesting surprise. Also thought the timed skull platforms were very cool. Funny story too.

The only real criticism I have, and it's a matter of opinion, is the visible switches. I like them in some levels but in this one with them on the skeleton's eyes and some of the visible pistons (not all but some) are distracting and take away from your design of characters. Also right in the beginning you have three swings that don't appear to do much and some skulls on dissolve material strewn throughout the level. Never did find a good use for those.

Overall a fun level and it's got some good style going for it too. I gave it 5 stars and hearted it. Thanks for sharing it!

EDIT: Youy should post Murderous Crows - dark and funny - Ungreth would love it once his PS3 is sorted out.

I had a chance to play this level the day it was published. This creator really knows his stuff, beside the fun theme of this level there are some great mechanics going on in this little beauty. Be sure to take your friends into this one and don't forget to check out Argon Vile's other amazing creations. 5/5 from the neighborhood panda!2009-10-16 15:44:00

Thanks for the kind words! The visible switches were a bit of a design decision. I coordinated them with the skeleton colors so they looked like pupils. I chose to keep them visible since it makes it obvious how the skeletons' mouths open and close. I think it especially helps for the proximity-triggered skeletons at the end. But, I appreciate the difference of opinion.

The swings were just a desperate attempt to make the beginning of the level a little less boring. You're right that they're pointless.

Glad you liked the level!

Thanks Panda! The level's copyable too if you want to see how any of the tricks work - although like Morgana pointed out, most of the switches are visible anyways so there's not a whole lot of secrets on this one!

Thanks for inviting me here by the way, lots of cool people on these forums!

lol what was that song!?

The Knife - You Make Me Like Charity. I added it as an annotation on the video. I try to make a lot of my songs based on levels - I find it helps give them a consistent feel! Even before I created this level I knew I wanted it to feel very "The Knifey".

Hey Argon! Sorry, but I couldn't find your level on your published page O.o?? Idk maybe I was just blind and I didn't look carefully enough. Anyways I updated my level and tried to fix and implement most of the suggestions you made. I got rid of the whole "Tap R1" Platform and made more rotating sponges And I modified the boss a little bit but i doubt you would notice seeming how you couldn't get to it :[ Everything should be working now so how about a replay? Please Thanks!2009-10-17 07:43:00

Hey Argon! I played your level today and it was really good! I liked the custom characters through-out the level. It made it that much more fun to play! The "hellevator" was awesome!

The overall look of the level was A+! And the enemies were top-notch as well!
I really liked that part with the sponges. I thought that was pretty original.

Overall I gave it 5 Stars!

Awesome thanks, I'm glad you liked it! Especially the hellevator bit - when I was first testing that part with friends it seemed kind of frustrating and lame. So I'm glad you specifically mentioned that bit

Amazing level. Could you put the brains on the skeleton on the side of the head tho instead of in a little indent? It makes them easier to see imo. Cuz i didnt see them at first2009-10-18 20:48:00

Played it and WOW. Very creative and awesome! Also looks very familiar

This level actually blew my mind in terms of quality. It shaped up to be very good and original in terms of gameplay, too. I played this with my cousin so was unable to rate or heart but I tell you it deserves 5 stars and a Heart!!!

Check my level All Dressed Up for F4F. Great job again!

Alrighht, here goes;

Good stuff;

- I loved all the creatures you made, very nice touch by letting them all fall apart.
- I also really liked the art style you went for and the mechanics you chose for your level (pulling self correcting levers, heavily creature based)
- Good amount of variety and a satisfying length

Whilst it may not seem like many good things, they all weigh in very strongly. They are very good good points to have.

Suggestions / Improvements;

- If you have thermometer left, which I doubt, but if you do, spend it on paper thin scenery. Especially at the begining. The begining is what tells people whether they want to keep playing or not. If i'd just picked your level at random, i'd have been given the impression of a distinctly average level from the begining zone. This is NOT an average level, you need to encourage people to keep going to find this out for themselves!

- Hide your switches, as someone said before, they fit in certain bits but not others. Keep them visible on the skelly heads but remove them from the swingers, they just look 'un-pro'.

- I suggest, and this is only from a gameplay point of view, that you link every brain grab switch on the level to a disattached creature brain really far away. Thus, whenever you 'eat' a brain, you gain points. I think that would be very cool, extra points gained for eating the brains contained in your well designed monsters!

So yeah, you deserve more plays for this level, but there are ways you can encourage people to keep playing yourself

4 stars and hearted.

Thermo is super full :/ i started adding lots of cool decorations. I'll throw some wafer thin stuff in the beginning - I agree that the aesthetics of the beginning of a level is really important, which is why I threw those random hanging skelly heads just so it wouldn't be totally empty.

The brains = points thing would have been possible - but I opted away from it. I liked leaving it morally ambiguous - so you don't get points either direction - rather than pigeon holing the players into a "being evil = getting points!" direction. But it's also a good suggestion, and it definitely crossed my mind

I think the only visible "swinger switches" are on the swingers for the big puzzle - is that what you mean? I thought that puzzle was really really hard - the switches are visible so that the player can possibly figure out what's going on - that certain switches shorten the swingers, and that when the swingers are short enough the lifts drop down. I think this part is already impossible (figuratively) to figure out even with the switches visible, so I could hide them to make it impossible (literally) to figure out. I don't think it'll make a big gameplay difference for anybody - but if it looks significantly better than I'll go for it

Thanks for all your suggestions, I'll put in the ones that I can!

Thanks everybody! I've made lots of fixes to my level. Asbestos - I removed the switches from the swingers in the skull puzzle. Nobody was going to figure out that part anyway. I also added some more decoration to the beginning of the level.

PaddyJ - I moved the brains on all of the skeletons. In addition to being easier to see, they're easier to hit now which I think helps gameplay. They're uglier imo but gameplay comes first! I think it's an improvement.

Thanks everyone for all your helpful feedback!

i Figured that part out. I thought it was a good puzzle as it wasnt completely obvious like most puzzles (if you can call them that) are in lbp.

The only thing i would of like to see is that you get points for eating the brains. I liked pulling apart the creatures you made to find there brains, so thought it would be pretty cool if you got points for each time you get one. I think you could simply wire the same grab switch to a brain off screen that would give 50 points each time.

Wow, congrats! I think that's a really hard puzzle. I'm going to have some better puzzles in my next level, they'll be less opaque but hopefully still difficult.

The "points for brains" idea is a cool idea. I originally meant the "eating brains" thing to just be a fun easter egg which doesn't give you any points. People are still inclined to run around and eat the brains just for fun! However, I'm not a huge fan of the whole "offscreen brain" gameplay mechanism, since it doesn't work very well in multiplayer. Also, the thermo's super full so I can't add any more objects at all - even if the whole mechanism only required one cardboard box, it would still overheat the level! :-[
