(((Electro-Magnet))) (((Electricity Turn On and Off)))

Archive: 6 posts

I think it would be awsome if we could have a type of material that attracts metal. It would be like Dark Matter, so you don't have to glue, bolt, ect. It can be turned on and off be switches, and only metal would be attracted.

:idea ::eek::blush::kz:

Electricity, it is probably the most annoying obstacle in the whole game. So why not be able to turn it off? I thin you should be able to hook it up to a switch so that annoying crackly stuff can just be whisped today.

You're not the first one to suggest magnets and/or electromagnetism. It's a cool idea however, and I'd definitely love to see such a feature.

However, I think it should definitely not act like dark matter. That would only be limiting the creator. Think of it - if you want it to be stationary, doing so by glueing a piece of DM to it isn't a big deal. But what if you want a moveable piece of magnetic material and it acts like DM?

Also, why do you call an obstacle "annoying"? Doesn't make much sense to me, since putting it to good (or bad) use is completely up to the creator. A lethalize/unlethalize-switch for electrified objects would be a nice addition though. You can achieve this effect by synced demit-emit of both an unlethal and a lethal version of the same object, but a switch would make things easier.

YOu do have a point with the acting like DM part, because gluing can get tedious and gets easily undun. The magnets can be crushed, which can be frustrating.

Trust me, gluing - if done correctly - will definitely not tend to un-glue automatically. I've had some problems with unglued objects back in my beginner days, but once you learn how and when to glue directionally (hold any direction or L1/L2 while pressing X) and how and when to use dark matter for fixing objects, your glued objects will behave exactly like you want them to.

Magnets can be crushed? Well, checkpoints, scoreboards, TNT and any other object or material in the whole game can be crushed. Still, they don't actually get crushed unless you do either want them to be destroyed or you just don't pay attention to how the level is set up.

It all comes down to the creator. But I think limiting a possible new feature (and "stationary only" is a limitation) just because there are more ways of not using it correctly isn't the way things should go.

Personally, I think that there should be two magnetic materials, one positive and one negative. Of course, they would both attract metal, but would attract opposite polarity magnetic material and repulse same polarity material, just like a real magnet. Think of the anti-gravity possibilities! They could maybe even have a tweak menu, for setting the strength, and the ability to work with on/off switches. However, I certainly don't want it to act like dark matter, though. That would render the whole thing fairly useless in my opinion. As for the electricity on/off switch, I certainly agree, that would be pretty handy.2009-10-21 16:43:00

I agree with CartoonPiranha.

I also think it would be cool if the the magnet material could make any metal material it touches magnetical, either negative or positive, depending on the the material, like in real world (though it's a bit hard), and that it looses its magnetivity on impact or with touch of fire, also like in the real world, if I am not mistaken
