Titles???

Ok. I'm trying to build a level, but I would like it if I could have titles on it.

I no that on rely good levels, they have them, where the PSN name is up, and then the title goes up and finally it all goes away and you start the level.

But how do they do it???

What you mean is a standard intro.
There's multiple ways of achieving this.

Basically, you need the following things:


Level entry checkpoint
Front thin layer block of material
Either a bunch of dissolvable platforms or any kind of elevator to move sackboy
multiple camera zones
some basic timing logic
Some creativity


First, you'll need sort of a "background construction". There's multiple simple ways of achieving this. For thermo's sake, I'd recommend using two solid walls to the left and right, building sort of a "pipe" for sackboy. Put a level entry checkpoint somewhere up in the pipe, so that all players get spawned in the pipe. Create several (2, 3... it's up to you, really) floors of dissolvable.

At the end, when all floors have dissolved, sackboy should fall to the start of the level. Wire this up with some kind of timer (I'm not going to explain this in this posting; there's tons of nice tutorials out there).

Next step, create a "cover": Use as many front layers as you want to create your title screen, PSN ID or whatever you want to. Put that in front of your pipe, so that sackboy gets hidden behind the artwork.

Finally, place some camera zones, either controlled by their default activation zone or by switches, so that the cam is always centered on the respective title image.

This pretty much covers the basics. Personally, I'm not a fan of those title screens. There's just too many of them around since the intro level of MGS pack came out. It's like bomb survivals. Still, if you decide to use it in your level, this is how you could do it (I say could because there's literally thousands of different ways of doing it).

That's really helpful, but in my level, ideally sackboy should start in a sealed box that's hooked up to a machine. How would I deal with that??2009-10-13 13:54:00

This does mostly depend on what kind of "machine" you use. Is it a simple darkmatter-piston-box setup or some complex mechanism? I'd just try to physically move the box by any means and trigger the camera zones using mag keys and switches or proximity switches.2009-10-19 08:20:00
