New Smilie - Heart

Archive: 32 posts

Okay, I couldn't find a topic that this has been requested before, but I have been wondering for a long while why there is no heart smilie. Now I could be blind and not notice something of the sorts in the smilies, but I believe my eyes work fine. Maybe another smilie isn't possibble, but I've seen forums before, most actually, where if the smilie doesn't show in the small selection to right of text box, there's usually something you can click that opens up a bigger menu with all the smilies.

Here are very good reasons why I think a heart would be great . . .

1. When people give feedback on levels in the showcase and they say they gave it so and so stars (using star symbols), sometimes they say heart also. But it's never a heart symbol, like there is the star one, and just text. So I imagine stars and a heart (like actual heart if someone chooses to use the smilie).

2. The heart emoticon (I'm thinking heart symbol rather than smilie), like any emoticon, denotes a feeling of love. Maybe you love something you do, or a person, or anything.

3. Any other kinds of posts/comments where a heart emoticon could be used.

To me this is a no brainer. I mean surely I'm not the only one that feels a heart symbol (or smilie would work too I guess) is a good idea, and could be just as useful as any, actually more useful than some that are there now. It's like water, you ever feel something is missing?

I am very sorry if this has been brought up, but if so, then heart was not in the title of thread, nor was smilie.

PLEASE VOTE in the poll above.

I agree, a heart emoticon would be a nice addition to accompany the star.

It doesn't look like a crying smiley but...well we...because when...hmm...this is what we have, k?

I think it's a good idea as well. In the mean time, Google gave me this: http://www.dragonlegion.eu/images/custom/heart_smiley.gif

Just paste http://www.dragonlegion.eu/images/custom/heart_smiley.gif to add it to a post.

Yeah, but not many people should have to or would do that. The point is for the smilie to be in the smilie list to right.

Having to copy and paste an image URL isn't the same thing. Lol.

I know, but it is the next best thing. I've known people to keep a text file with all of their important image URLs in it for this reason.

Also, I http://www.dragonlegion.eu/images/custom/heart_smiley.gif this icon.

Use google docs for this. It's an online documents system. Thats what I do.

I was actually surprised when CC added the star, that a heart did not soon follow. I agree this is a great idea.

:star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 for this idea!

If you guys look at all the smilies we have now (and how neat and orderly it is), it would mean that adding a heart would require us to remove something else. Now, I could see us honestly removing these:

or :kz:

...as they are rarely used. But it's not my call.

No, I used it quite a lot as well.
I've used it at least twice today.

The least used one is definitely , because "cool" isn't really an emotion that people feel the need to express here very often.

I'd definitely replace that one with a cute Sack-Heart.

Alright everyone, I have added a poll. Please vote if you haven't already. I have also edited the topic post to bring the poll to anyone reading's attention.

@comphermc:

A new smilie can always be added, especially since this is a paid for site. I use to run a free site, which isn't even as good as this one with less options available, and we could add as many as we wanted. I explain how this is done in my topic post. It's done by an extra little window with all the smilies pops up after clicking something like 'see more smilies' or so and so. If we (admins) could do it on a free forums, and not just mine, but all forums I had ever seen, then I'm sure they could do it here.

@CC:

I can't edit poll options, and I feel that my words after the yes option on my poll for a heart smilie sounds kind of rude. It says Yes. We should of had one a long time ago. Now I wish it said something like Yes. It would be greatly appreciated.

I wasn't meaning what it says now in a selfish rude way like it sounds, but to me that's what it sounds like and it's too late to change it, or is there a way?

If not, I just figured I'd mention this so it won't give off the wrong attitude once you see it.

@BSprague:

Lol. I went back to change poll options text, but now I can't, unless I'm not seeing how. What you mention was just for a little humor, but still counts as no, though I could still change it if only I could.

Nope.

CC can change what the options say, and if the moderators here have that privilege they can too (but I don't know if they can, you'd have to ask one of them). A user can't edit their poll after submitting it though.
