What would you do?
Archive: 19 posts
I am kind of bored, so I felt like starting this thread. If you had to loose one of your senses (sight, smell, taste, hearing, touch), what would it be and why?:hero: edit: preferably 5 MAIN senses. | 2009-10-13 04:50:00 Author: UncreativeUserName Posts: 107 |
Well you didn't say the main 5 senses and. . "Humans are considered to have at least five additional senses that include: nociception (pain), equilibrioception (balance), proprioception & kinesthesia (joint motion and acceleration), sense of time, thermoception (temperature differences), with possibly an additional weak magnetoception (direction), and six more if interoceptive senses are also considered.". . so I would most definetely choose nociception. | 2009-10-13 04:55:00 Author: ChristmasJew Posts: 431 |

Well, I'm going to get even more technical and say that you couldn't live without nociception. It's the body's way of telling you about itself (hunger, thirst, etc). If you can't feel pain, you wouldn't know if you are doing damage to the body... I'd go with magnetoception (assuming it exists), since it's not essential. ----- Of the main sense, I'd have to go with hearing...? | 2009-10-13 05:02:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
lol i am out of my league here! | 2009-10-13 05:03:00 Author: UncreativeUserName Posts: 107 |
Without thermoceptive receptors operating on all cylinders, I wonder if the sensory result would be on par with a feeling of room temperature? Would it be more numbness or a mellow 75 degrees Fahrenheit? So I might go with that one. In a pinch. As for magnetoception, I'm pretty sure I don't have that one anyway, so I don't know if it counts for me. Someone stole my magnetoceptive antennae. As for introceptive senses, how specific can we get? Can I isolate a single stretch sensor? In which case I might go with stretch sensors that sense vasodilation of a specific set of arteries, for me I might choose those in the brain. I feel like I could live without headaches and get by pretty well. .....Juuust kidding! Hearing, I guess. This actually reminds me of the "would you rather" game. Would you rather every sound sound like an Avril Lavigne song to you, or every flavor taste like dog poo? Put on Beethoven's 9th and hear "Sk8ter Boi", or have some Ben and Jerry's and only taste the present Admiral Maximilian Buttersworth left on your front lawn. | 2009-10-13 09:24:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

LOL - love Teebonsey's answer. Like a panel discussion hearing for me. Can't live without the others and it might be nice to have some quiet. | 2009-10-13 15:59:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
I would have to say taste. That would give me the chance to eat all those healthy foods that I don't like | 2009-10-13 16:09:00 Author: Powershifter Posts: 668 |
I would have to say taste. That would give me the chance to eat all those healthy foods that I don't like lol true; however, i would go crazy if i couldn't taste my favorite foods. if you cant taste, you also loose smell though. hense if you plug ur nose, you cant taste when you eat. so its kind of a 2 for 1 deal lol. | 2009-10-13 16:13:00 Author: UncreativeUserName Posts: 107 |
I would probably use my sense of smell/taste. Without hearing and/or vision, I wouldn't be able to play LBP D: And if I didn't have a sense of touch, I would have to look down at the controller every time I wanted to press a button just to see where my fingers were. Omg, that would suck D: Here's one: Would you rather take a dump the size of a van or hairball the size of a van? I do stuff like this with friends all the time, hahaha. Classic. I'd go for the hairball. | 2009-10-13 16:31:00 Author: Sackwise Posts: 305 |

Wait, are you a cat...because humans don't get hairballs. lol | 2009-10-13 16:34:00 Author: UncreativeUserName Posts: 107 |
@Whoever said the one without pain - If you can't feel pain, you won't realise if you have a broken leg. So you will keep walking on it etc. and it will get worse and worse, you could end up losing your leg altogether if it gets infected etc. | 2009-10-13 16:46:00 Author: Unknown User |

Think about all of the times that you've heard the snapping sound in a level and had to search around for the problem before irreparable damage was inflicted. Imagine if you didn't hear that dreaded warning sign and continued working. When it came time to publish, you'd be all bent out of shape. | 2009-10-14 01:04:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
