how to make a GOOD hoverboard!

Archive: 16 posts

so you want to make a hoverboard but don't have any idea how to perfect its control factor?(or fun factor)heres how you can make it better!(from start to finish)with 10 easy tips!

1.make half first:many people struggle to make both sides beautiful without thinking about just making half and copying...it makes it equal and saves a LOT of hassle!

2.use the grid:there are many instances where the grid helps you create!but this is when its most usefull, use it when you place the sponge so its centered! and when you place the rockets so they are the same area on both sides.

3.tweak them rockets!:for some reason the rockets are NEVER perfect...they always require tweaking!this is SUPER important when you want to make a 'board like mine that actually hovers!

4.flip-back switch:ALWAYS make a flip-back switch...trust me ametuars will seriously need them!also for a cool effect puty them on both sides...if you don't know how.just put rockets on top for them!

5.looks ARE everything:o.k. this isn't anything about control but its pretty important.many people judge a board on how it looks and flies...LOOKS!!! and flies! just swap the materialistic rubber for a metal of some kind and vividly decorate it and you'll be fine!

6.DON'T MAKE A HAZARDS TRACK:this ruins the experience!people like the fast-pace RIDING of a board as in a free-roam not a slow-paced deadliness of a track filled with hazards that jacks its control :/ its like macaroni but with lava not cheese! or popcorn with dynamite! just don't do it!

7.make several "styles":making different looks and styles adds to the fun of the testing the boards...you'll have a better score with more boards to test!

8.make it a show!:emitting flames makes the board 2x as cool!but experiment with other stuff to emit as well...just not more boards, i meen c'mon!

9.power to the players!:let the players change the atmosphere...players like riding neon boards at night...it adds an extra dimension to it!

10.have fun!:no matter what its your board so have fun!make it and use it the way YOU want!

Very interesting and good advice. Thanks.

BTW I just noticed you're in San Diego ( lucky devil ) so you may be interested in my 'Balboa Park' level that I made for the youtube geographical contest if you haven't seen it already.

Because it's a great place. Top of my list if I won the lottery would be to buy a home in San Diego.

Good advice dude! But I have just one additional question, is it better to put the dissolve or grabbing material in the middle because that way, it would be easier to see where the middle is and to shift your body weight easier?2009-12-18 08:37:00

This design stays pretty stable, you have to try to flip it, or just go extremely to the side for no reason (which I consider trying to flip it)

Right now it is in jump pack mode, if you can see two small glass feet on it, these weigh it down so it comes down, but still allows higher longer jumps, take them off and it is a hoverboard/craft again

Another tip, use an odd amount of rockets on it, lets say three. Put one in the center and two on the outside, set the middle to zero power and set the two on the outside one notch each below the power that makes you lift,(you should not be lifting off the ground anymore) then tweak the center until it is perfect. The reason for this is so you do not have to go and change the power of two rockets at a time when you are testing. Also it is near impossible to adjust two rockets the same amount with the analog stick, forcing you to use the d-pad which makes large jumps.

Also remember rockets run on an exponential scale (I have not done any serious testing, just casual observations so I may be wrong) this means that a small bump in the high end will do much more than a small bump on the low end.
