Welcome to Round 4 of the Character Contest! Keeps Going Strong!


Well, with the apparent loss of crazymario, it appears to be agreed that this contest is in my hands now. So, in the spirit of keeping what he started going, let's start the new round!

Directions
1. Following either the general theme or the special rules for this round, create a character in create mode.
2. Put it in a blank level.
3. Publish that level.
4. Post the info regarding the level in this thread.
Rules
1. The character must be created during the contest period.
2. No bombs should be implanted in the character.
3. The character may not kill a sackperson in any graphic, bloody way.
4. The character must have a name. The level title should have the character's name in it.
5. Bolts of any kind are fine. All connectors are allowed.
6. Sensor/mag-key switches are allowed.
7. Only TWO entries per person during a round.
8. If you are switching out an entry, please specify which one you are switching out.
9. ALL ROUNDS WILL EITHER HAVE A GENERAL THEME OR A SPECIAL RULESET. PLEASE SEE WHAT THIS ROUND'S THEME/RULESET IS AS WELL.

Judging
1. Each judge will give each entry a numerical score based on CREATIVITY from 1 to 10.
2. Scores from each judge will be combined. Any ties will be broken by my daughter who will award a fraction of a point as appropriate.
3. After the scores have been calculated, the top 5 scores will be announced.
4. The top rated character will win. If participation is large enough and it is practical, 2nd and 3rd place may also be awarded prizes.

- Any. If you bought it, you can use it.

Prizes
The winner (or winners) will be awarded exp. As an additional prize, the winning entry (or entries) may be included in one or more projects at their discretion. (This is something still being worked out)

Current Special Rules
Making Lemonade From Lemons

In honor of coming together to keep this going, the next round will have a special set of rules based on the penny philosophy in question. You can create any type of character you wish, but these additional construction rules are in place for this round only.

You can only use the following 10 materials, which were chosen at random (Not TRUE random, but we can get into the randomization method in thread if you really want to). You can, of course though, sticker or decorate them however you wish.

Rubber
Arabian Tiles
Metal Skull Plate
Carved Heads
Basic Glass
Valentine Wrapping Paper
Leather Struts
Shiny Metal
VR Grid Red
VR Grid Green

It has been pointed out however, that DLC materials were selected for on the initial list, and we have some "DLC Vegans" in our midst who would like to be able to compete on a more even setting. So, for those who do not have or do not wish to use DLC, here is a slightly altered list.

Alternative List (May be used instead if NO DLC is utilized. This means absolutely no DLC though - that includes stickers, decorations, and so forth, so keep that in mind):

Beaded Fabric
Barbed Wire
Rusty Metal
Rubber
Metal Skull Plate
Carved Heads
Basic Glass
Leather Struts
Shiny Metal


And don't forget, you can use any MM objects you wish as well (assuming they aren't left with non-list materials), which can also be sticker'd or decorated however you see fit.

Of course, you don't even have to use any materials ... just putting that out there.

That's it. Now let's see those MacGyver'd masterpieces!

Thanks for breathing life back into this Jagrevi I like the limited materials concept but since you have DLC in - it may make it harder for those who don't download DLC - could you have an alternate material list for those w/o DLC?2009-10-11 05:41:00

Just as soon as I can figure out a way of how the who-heck I'm gonna incorporate any of those items in.

@Jagrevi Could we dispense with rules 2 and 4 regarding magic mouths and brains. I had a brain on 2 of my previous characters because I wanted them to move. There is no theme concerning characters, just only certain materials you can build out of - kind of like a grade-school "egg-drop" or something of that nature.

You are right about the DLC though. If DLC is allowed, it will always be an advantage for those who have access for it, however, the rules as originally outlined kind of magnified the difference. That's why, as mentioned above, I will be creating a list for those people who do not have access to DLC. Hopefully this will brings things back on a more even playing-field.

Anyways, 4 new materials have been generated to make the requested, alternative "DLC Vegan" materials list, which is now included in the initial post.

If you don't have, or simply don't want to use and DLC - there is now an alternative list of materials you may utilize.

Wow! Thanks so much! Sorry things went badly. Life happens... we really understand. However, when things go wonky please just tell us up front. It is so much easier! If you had posted a help wanted message for someone to take over the contest, you would have eliminated quite a bit of stress for yourself as well as eliminated the confusion and ultimate frustration of those who have grown to love this contest.

LOL! Well.. ya never know!! The cost of the XP Contest Package is 500 xp and you only need that one package to give xp for any of the rounds of any contest you feel like running.

So if you need the XP donation, no biggie. Just more incentive to try and win it back!

xp or experience points can purchase up some nifty packages or purchase stickers that show under your avatar. It just something that you accumulate as you make posts, use the rep system, and add friends.

Alright, it looks like we're currently 10 days in and the first submissions have not yet come in.

For those of you who may be having trouble with inspiration, some thoughts ...

Last round Morgana25 made "The Spoiler" out of glass, some eyes, and one decoration type used over and over again - and the glass was just really there to provide structure. The main material of the character doesn't actually have to be "a material".

I believe at the beginning of the mrsupercomputer level about 'sky pirates' is a character made mostly, if not entirely, out of sticker'd rubber. Also, I believe Pyscho Bunny from the previous round was also made primarily out of colored rubber.

Also, remember, you can always use photos and custom stickers to not only provide colors, but to define whole textures or even body parts of your character. If you don't have access to a favorite 'scaly' texture you rely on, why not try and make your own 'scaly' texture?

Just some thoughts in case people are suffering from lack of inspiration. Anyways, I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with. 		2009-10-20 21:08:00

Thanks Jagrevi but it's not inspiration I'm struggling with. It's just getting the time to do anything. I just started a new job and what with beta testing and trying to get Sheriff Sack 2 going I'm really struggling. I only really get weekends to do any building but I'll try to get something done.

Hey Jagrevi, I've been thinking, it looks like me and Joey were the only entrants. If that's the case it feels like a bit of a hollow victory as it wasn't really a contest what with only the 2 of us entering so if you're thinking of giving XP away I would be more than happy to either share it with Joey or, if he agrees, let it roll over to the next contest.

I don't really need the XP anyway. I only entered for a bit of fun and mostly to show support for your continued running of the contest. I'm sure you'll get more entries in future contests. I just think this one came at a time when everyone was busy on other projects or something.

Thank you mistervista, that's very kind of you. I'll roll the exp over into the next one - which hopefully I can set up within the next couple days.
