Photoshop And Renders - Help Please!

Archive: 15 posts

I'm sure there's an easy solution for this, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Lets say that I'm making a Signature. (On the free trial of CS4.) I've created a cool background for it, and then I go in to paste the render.

It has a black background around it, when it's supposed to be transparent.

So, what I have to do is open a new document, paste it in, and remove the black, instead of being able to just drop it in.

I wanted to know if there's a way for me to make it transparent, instead of black. Because sometimes, when my render is partly black, it is nearly impossible for me to get a perfect cut around it.

My helghast sig was pretty hard to do...

Thanks for any help. If I'm not clear enough, just tell me.

lol just use the magic wand tool or make an account @planet renders.net and download some renders there

if you are talking about c4d's set them on liner dodge that will fix the black

If you're sure it had no background when you viewed it and after pasting it a background was put on then you have to save the image. Then when you open it in PS it will have no background.

P.S. Just pasting a render on a background is not how to make a good signature. Just a heads up.

I know. That was just an example. I wasn't gonna go through every single thing...

And thanks everyone.

Yea, I figured I should try saving my renders, but I assumed it wouldn't make a difference.

Ah well. Thanks!

Yea, I know.

I was never actually saving them though.

I guess I should've tried the obvious...

Ah well. Now I know.

If you're still having trouble or need more renders, I find my renders at: http://planetrenders.net/renders/

Just make sure you keep clicking the render until it opens in a new window with a white background and save it as .png

I signed up there yesterday.

I was just googling "[CHARACTER NAME] Render" but, that doesn't always work so well...

Thanks everyone.

I'm just getting used to Photoshop... I used to use Paint.Net.

I'm getting most of my knowledge from Youtube, (Hahah...) and my dad. (Who used to do graphic designing for websites. I bet he has the full version of Photoshop somewhere!)

Now if only I was good at spriting, for a "Project" I'm working on...

Ah nevermind, I have tons to do before I need sprites made... I mean there's the coding and--*Stops himself from saying more*

Eh, people from LittleBigWorkshop will know... I'll just add a little bit to my signature...

Not a good way.

Read some tutorials.

You can find some good ones at http://www.deviantart.com/. Just search for like "Sig tut" and you'll find a bunch.

I'll probably take a look at some tonight...

Just something to note - some transparent gif's are not truly transparent and if you copy them from google, they will have a black background when pasted as a new image in PS.

If googling, try adding "filetypeng" to the search which will look for all png files matching your search criteria.

I persoannly find the magic wand very limited in PS - I sometimes use the select>color range.

But IMHO, the simple polygonal lasso tool is my preference, even if it does take longer.

Lasso tool is very inaccurate and weak. It's major flaw is that you can not fix any mistakes you make. You have to make 1 long perfect line around the guy.

Pen tool's how you render. Then you smudge the edges a little if needed.

Pen tools OK if you have a tablet, but I still find the poly l the easiest to manipulate. You don't have to make 1 long line - you can add or subtract using alt or shift.

Magnetic tool is baaaad, unless you have a clean contrast each side of a line.
