Integer tool

Archive: 11 posts

What LBP lacks, but also what would make LBP have lots more creating possibilities are variables.

An integer variable could be imagined like this:
A suitcase which can hold and mange files which contain reasonable numbers.

This integer variable can be used in millions of ways, for example.
Each time i jump on a creature and "get rid of it", i could make that creature trigger the integer variable and add the number 1 to it. So each time i do this, it will count how many of those creatures i "got rid of".

Another example would be this (this is from my idea ): You are creating a level in which the player has to keep adding logs to a fire to keep warm. How warm the player is determined by the integer variable, it starts at 100 and increases each time the player adds a log to the fire, but it also decreases overtime (time can be made in game, not gonna explain how). And when the integer gets to zero it triggers something that "gets rid of" the player and the makes the re-spawn point move to the score table to end the game.

I hope you have an idea of what i am talking about now .

Possible features for the Integer Variable Tool can be:
-Can round, multiply, divide, add, and subtract numbers.
-Can only have a maximum of (X) integer variables per level.
-Can show the number the integer variable contains at the moment at a position on the screen.
-Can trigger different things.
-May have a different name such as "Math Tool" or "Calculator Tool".

Actual process of how this is going to work. (Complicated part).
How would you control the output?
Answer to that quote ^^^.
In the actual coding of the game, variables are valid through the entire code, all the creators have to do is add an extra variable which the user can modify and use in the area of creating levels. The variable will hold an (X) amount of numbers which can be changed by adding, subtracting, etc... And an extra variable for saying true or false (also used in almost all switches, for example if player is near the sensor switch it outputs "true" but if the player is not near it outputs "false". The variable could the following options (example):
-Max Number (X/Infinite). (Max number the variable can have)
-Minimum Amount (Y). (Minimum number that the variable can have)
-Triggered by (Switch/Player). (Determines what the variable is triggered by)
-Math (Add/Subtract/Multiply/Divide) (Determines what to do after it gets triggered).
-Math Number (Number). (Number to use in the Math option).
-Trigger at number (X/Y/Number). (Trigger something at a certain number, if it is the number, then set variable to true).
-Number view (X/Y/Number). (Which number to show on the screen for the player).
The variable will have a connecting wire which the player can use to trigger different things.

I think that this addition would be greatly positive to the game, and this could inspire many players. I hope you people support this idea so that it is possible for it to be in the game.

-Thanks!

I've always wanted variables and IF switches for more advanced creators.

Also a screen to display variables on would be nice

These things can probably created with the current tools but makes more complex logic a lot easier and more manageable, and it saves tons of space and thermo!

And the variable/screen thing would be great for end of level displays or things like health

It's a great idea, but I don't see anyway this can be implemented without it being confusing. Sure, they can make it look pretty and disguise it to make it slightly more user-friendly, but overall, it's just not going to work well. Anyway, we can already do adding and subtracting with logic. If you can give me something reasonable that we haven't already done, I'll try and make an example for you, because I don't think this will add enough to the game to make it worth the developer's time.2009-10-10 19:12:00

Yes this could be done with logic, but creating that logic takes more time and is more complicated than my idea. I remember some guy made a calculator that adds two two-digit numbers, took him over 500 wires to do it or something.

If this would ever be added to the game it should only be used by advanced creators. Maybe a new pack for it, something like: "Advanced Creator Pack".

I think its a fabulous idea very creative and it doesnt sound like it would be dificult to add. Great post.2009-10-10 23:17:00

I think its a fabulous idea very creative and it doesn't sound like it would be difficult to add. Great post. It actually wouldn't be difficult to add at all, as long as you know how to do it, the creators of course do know.2009-10-11 00:01:00

You can connect a one-shot emmiter to paintballs that shoot at a paint switch, so each time you push a log in the fireplace for example it shoots one paintball, and if you set the paint switch to 10, it would take 10 logs.

Another way, more complex but with better features, would be to set a one-shot stick next to a bunch of stacked dissolve blocks. Each block of dissolve has a magnetic key switch on it that makes it dissolve itself. The one shot stick would have a magnetic key on it.

Like springs said though, it would make counting things easy and without that kind of logic

You can already make complex logic, so why have this? It would eliminate the fun of designing logic. (yes, it's fun) Also, it would ruin all the calculator (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=18003) levels (and other logic machines) including mine!:eek:2009-11-04 15:18:00
