Awesomemans Reviews: Plasma Maiden Mini Game by MGO_Count

Archive: 10 posts

Plasma Maiden Mini Game is a mini game where you dodge lazers. Yes, dodge lazers. Quite the exciting, original premise, no? Original presentation would be the one thing to save this mini game, unfortunately it fails in that department.

Plasma Maiden has the sensei from The Islands floating up near the top of the room while lasers materialize around her. There are also some trees in the background and a jail for some reason.

Plasma Maiden is sort of like Danmaku Rave without the excitement or variety. A bunch of lazers shoot from every way, most not even coming from the "maiden", and you have to dodge them while collecting points. Some lazers are big, some lazers are small. Some move fast, some move slow. When you die three times you lose.

Plasma Maiden reminds me of the flash games you find on sites like Addicting Games. They're alright but they can't hold your attention. They're not the least bit addicting. A short while in, you'll ask yourself "why bother?" and quit. There's no real difficulty curve and no incentive to get far. The truth is that a review like this is useless. You will only like this level if you really like dodging lazers.

=_=; Thanks for the review.
I love how you didn't mention how hard it is to actually make something like this properly.
Most laser games are either too easy, or the patterns makes no sense.
It took me awhile to make everything balanced, and make everything actually dodgeable.

But hey, I guess you didn't like it.

And you spelled Lasers wrong.

I don't care how hard it was to make. It's boring.

I can't review a level like this, to be honest. I don't like dodging lasers, what can I say? Good for you, you made a laser level that was "balanced". That's your opinion. To me, this level wasn't balanced, the patterns made no sense, and it had no difficulty curve.

And "dodgeable" isn't a word.

I think this just shows how some levels just arent for everyone. A fact I know well, haha.

I, personally, liked this one. It was nice to see someone other than myself make something like this for once, and this one was a bit more creative than my stuff. Particularly with the focus on scoring, and I liked how the scoring worked.

That being said, I think it's a bit hard to compare this to something like Rave.... two very different things, and I think possibly for different audiences. Maiden is a scoring challenge.... see how high you can score. Regardless of when you go down, you'll have at least SOME points to register on the scoreboards, and you can easily go and try again. It's not frustrating, it doesnt make you want to beat the PS3 with the controller. Rave, however, IS frustrating and usually involves alot of cursing. You dont score AT ALL unless you defeat it, and few have. It's meant for a very specific audience. I didnt find myself swearing at the Maiden here, lol. Which to me is a good point.

I will agree on one point though: The patterns were a bit stale, though I think I'd pointed this out in the level's topic. A slow but steady increase in difficulty would add alot to this, I think, without irritating the players.

My opinion on it, anyway.

1. Bridget does do reviews.

2. Maybe you should look up the word biased. I didn't give you a bad review because your level was on LBP, which is a PS3 game. I didn't give you a bad review because you created the level. I didn't even give you a bad review because it was a laser dodging level. It was just a boring laser dodging level. There's a difference between bias and honesty. Hate to break it to you that your level is mediocre.

If you don't want criticism don't ask for a review. Someone remind me not to review for crybabies anymore.

Yes, I do reviews, just really bloody slowly cause I keep getting distracted by too many game releases currently.

For whatever reason the last 2 months or so have been the "awesomeness overload" time of the year for game releases for me. As it is, Space Invaders Extreme 2 apparantly came out 4 days ago WITHOUT MY KNOWING ABOUT IT, so there's something that Im about to be even more distracted by.

Though, my game purchases will die down within the next couple weeks. Until the end of November when Mushihime Futari comes out, and nobody sees me again for the next month because of it.

*cough*

ANYWAY.

Awesomemans has a very valid point, and I quote: "If you don't want criticism don't ask for a review."

That's not meant to sound harsh or anything, it's just a valid point. It's definitely a fine idea to ask for reviews of levels you make.... but be aware, the reviewers in here do their very best to be unbiased and above all, HONEST about these. If there's something wrong with a level, we're gonna point it out.

But that's the good thing, see? It helps you learn more and create better things.

That being said, dont ask for a review and just expect it to be a shining one. Feel free to ask multiple people for a review though! All of us like different things when it comes to these levels. Like I said above: the level you've made isnt gonna be for everyone, and that's the case with ANY level. Asking for multiple reviews can help you get that much more feedback, thusly.

I've forgotten what else I was gonna say.

Well, I would make the stage better but everytime I edit it, all switches breaks (grab switches) and it gets messy.

And yeah I learned a lesson about "If you don't want criticism don't ask for a review.".
I will never ask a review from someone unexperienced ever again. x)

And hey, I wouldn't be talking like this if he wasn't so rude at the end.
Get your attitude straight bud.

I'm sorry I don't have the experience you have, with your incredibly popular blog and all. After all, this is my first review.

The end of the review was honest, not rude. If you don't like staying in a room dodging lasers, you'll get nothing out of playing this level.

We can't all have the incredible wisdom, experience, and talent you have, ya know.

I forgot that a "good reviewer knows the aspects of everyone's perspective". This level should have been a five because some people will really like it. I thought someone as experienced as you would look through my reviews first before requesting one. A lapse of judgment there, I see.

Guys, calm it down! I have to side with Bridget here, he's got the most reasoned points. Count, you need to realise by now that Awesomemans is not all there (in fact, most of him seems to be in coo-coo-land), so his quirky quirks may appear as snide comments. I would say to Awesomemans not to be petty and to be a bit more empathetic, but he'd probably slap me with a fish. Count, don't be petty. Reviews are reviews - they point out the good and bad things in your levels. Awesomemans thought that it was a bit repetitive and lacked creativity, so you TAKE the criticism, and use it to improve your level by adding a bit more story, continuity, and interest.2009-10-24 11:39:00
