Whispers in the Darknessshindol
Whispers in the Darkness is a point and click style ghost story. If you plan on having a go at this level make sure you read the discription. There are some tips that will allow you to play it in the best possible way. Make sure you have a look at all the objects in the game as they add to the story. You'll probably need a bit of patience to get through it.

I really liked this level. I'm a big fan of point and click adventure games and I haven't played one yet done with LBP until now. I thought this level did point and click very well. It didn't feel tedious to me at all and though some parts made you think about what you had to use next and where, I did not get stuck at all.

I liked the atmosphere and lighting. It had good use of camera cut scenes with dialog. The story was creepy and well written too.

I think the only thing I didn't really like was the end with the score board completely obstructed.

I gave it a 4 out of 5 and hearted. I recommend this level to people who like a good horror story and don't mind reading dialog or fans of the point and click genre.

Happened to bump upon this near midnight and glad I did.
I'm a huge fan of point-and-click games and your level did not disappoint :]
I almost was not able to read the book or letter until I decided to eye the library for kicks.

Overall, it was a great experience and the end DID scare me. Lol, just being honest ^o^

5/5 + Heart
Great job :]

Thanks zomginterweb and Raikuden for your feedback. The scoreboard is no longer obstructed by the ghost. She disappears after a second. Another player has commented about the letter and the diary. He pointed out the fact that he could talk to Father O'Shea and Mickey about the letter without even finding or reading it which was foolishly overlooked by myself whilst creating. I've fixed this problem now in a way that shouldn't spoil the experience and players won't be able to proceed to the church without reading the letter. Thanks for pointing out these problems2009-10-11 14:56:00

Woah, I have to say I was impressed with this. Point and click is a very difficult genre to bring to a game like LBP - but I think you've done it expertly. I like the fact that a lot of the stuff is interactive and the story is superb

Not much to complain about - got the full 5 stars and a heart from me

That was a fantastic level, The story was excellent and so was the gameplay, I liked the concept of a point and click adventure, it worked really well.

There were on only two problems I found

1. One of the gravestones in the graveyard can be knocked over

Possible Spoiler
2. You should emit a fuse into the fuse box near the fountain when you trigger it

5 Stars and a Heart, Great Work

Really nice, original level! I really liked the parts where you read something on the table, I liked how you made like an overhead camera. The only thing I found wrong with the level is:

You can pass by the mailbox and when you get to the fence it says "maybe I should go find a place to read the letter". Me being the slow person that I am, I just walked around for a really long time just thinking what letter?! not knowing it was right in the mailbox.
I gave it 4 stars, great job!

Thanks for the feedback. I've put a hint in the level that prompts the player to check the mailbox before you find it so this should help. I've added another hint halfway through to help more people know what to do at the end.2009-10-16 18:07:00

Wow, that's the most ingenious use of stickers I've ever seen. The story is captivating, the environments are beautiful and I can tell that a lot of care went into making sure that the level always kept its dark, mysterious atmosphere from start to finish.

I thoroughly enjoyed this level, and give it a well deserved :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart.

Hi shindol.

I tried it a second time but I guess I'm too stupid for such a complex level.
This time the lady said and did new things and I couldn't get into the cemetery without reading the letter. O_o

[I don't know how to get into the bathroom to grab the fuse; that's the only missing part. I even already have the baby corpse. (The last time I got stuck I was so desperate that I looked into the basement without the key - that's the only bug in this level... you can see the basement without the key).]

Anyway... YOU DID SUCH A GREAT JOB!
I love the visuals, the creepy atmosphere and the story. It's the first "Point and Click"-level I saw on LBP and i love it.

I got really scared, really. Haha.

***** and a heart.

Greetings, Anna

LOL, don't worry about not finishing it SantaAnna - this level is very difficult. It requires loads of attention to detail and thinking and tracking back. But when you do finish it you feel great 2009-10-18 08:59:00

Thanks for the feedback Anna. Somebody mentioned the fact that he could talk to people in the level about the letter without finding it so I had to do something about it. Thanks for letting me know about the fact that you could look in the basement and the bathroom without entering them. I've sorted out a solution for that now. As regards to where you're stuck on the level, I don't think you've spoken to Mickey behind the bar.2009-10-18 13:17:00

I spoke to the priest, I spoke to Mickey, I spoke to everyone... (This time even the grave of the lady talked to me, though I already knew what to do.)

The reverend, Jesus and Mickey never mentioned the letter. They said just random things.

I found out all this things by myself. Strangely some things happened during my second try that didn't happened the first time. (The lady went into the water, the grave talked to me)

The order of my first try: library, garden, cemetery, church, bar, looking at the pictures, sold-sign, mailbox, letter in the library, opening the tool shed, cracking the fountain box, cracking the bathroom box, finding the fuse, digging the grave of the lady, digging the vault, finding the corpse, STUCK!!!

How can I get that bathroom-key? :/

A tres, tres good level.

What? You want MORE?

Well i'll find it hard to say how good this level is, as undoubtably you've already been showered with praise, lol. But yes, impressive sticker use, very good story (which is a good thing, it being a story level and all)

It was quite hard, is all i'll say, but obviously easy challenges aren't as satisfying.

5 stars and hearted etc.

*thumbs up*

Very interesting and intriguing level. Absolutely superb atmosphere throughout. Visually pleasing and fantastic storyline, although I did find the character on the cross a little disturbing! I'm glad I wasn't playing it alone!

Brilliant work, well done!

Really good and smart level!
You manage to find a clever and simple system for the actions!

Great visuals and lightings, mostly in the house, church and bar.
In my opinion, the outside was less good looking
I found it too much "contrasted" : the lights were very bright and white, and the background was just plain black...
Maybe more subtle lightings, an Mm background (Garden/Church...) and fog ...

Anyway, great atmosphere combine with great story!
And a very original way to play LBP!

Great work!

I really enjoyed this! You definitely nailed the point-and-click genre, all the way down to the sometimes totally-abitrary, but entertaining-nonetheless details on things in the world.

"Mirror mirror on the wall... Wait, what am I doing?"

I thought it was awesome. It overloaded my profile and I had to delete a ton of photos at the end, but overall I think it was worthwhile. The gloves I don't think were necessary - you only use them once, and it's not much of a brain-teaser.

One cool idea this gave me is the "item-combination" thing you see in a lot of point-and-clicks. You pick up a few different items, and then combine them together and create a new item. You could have a "workbench" area, with an "item one" slot and an "item 2" slot, and if you combine the proper items together, it spits out a whole new item, which you need to continue the level.

I should mention one issue I had the first time I played through it - in spoiler tags.

So I got the hessian sack, and figured I had to bury it in the woman's grave - but nothing happened. i dug into the ground and tried stickering the thing all over the place. Nothing happened. I travelled back and forth all over the level, talking to everyone, trying all my items on everything, wondering if I missed something.
Second time through, it worked first-thing, hessian-sticker on grave, and done.

I don't know what happened, maybe I used too many stickers, maybe I happened to miss the tombstone and only hit the ground the first time... up to you if there's anything you want to do about it, but it felt more natural to me to sticker the ground itself rather than the tombstone. Maybe make a coffin or something in the ground (after digging of course) that makes it really obvious where to place the sticker?
