Omg... My ps3

Archive: 29 posts

One week from my most anticipated game ever (Uncharted 2)'s release and BAM! Yellow light of death flicks on, and then the power button flickers on red and then off, never stopping till I turn it off at the back.

It all started after I had completed Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on hard, then I started it again on crushing, played a fair bit, then it just froze, turned off, and the YLOD flicked on and the red light sequence happened for this first time.

Dang.

Unlucky... Uncharted seems to be faulting since the PS3 update they had to re update didn't they, Although it was optional. Whether this has anything to do with that i don't know but honestly i hope it gets fixed quickly for you mate.2009-10-08 14:25:00

Welcome to the fun side!

...

Sony's ten year plan doesn't seem to consider the lifetime of their earlier PS3 models.

Cheers guys...

I'll probably be sending it in for repairs, but I can't believe how long it will take. Heh, I'll have a few ordered games in my hands soon without even being able to play them.

I really do think it just comes down to how much you use your console of choice. It's sad that we're to this point, but the bottom line is that there's a lot of things creating a lot of heat in an insanely small space. That constant cooling/heating process takes a toll on the hardware no matter what precautions you might take.

Sorry to hear you got hit with the YLoD, but it's going to happen to everyone eventually. Hope it gets back to you in a timely manner.

I'm getting worried now
I wouldn't worry about it, I have a 60 GB launch model and it is still running like a champ after nearly constant use for both games and movies. The vast majority are still fine, nobody makes a thread to say how theirs is running fine, the threads only come up when one breaks.

You're right to say don't worry about it because its the sort of thing that just happens but you can't take the console running fine as an indication that its not going to fail, its the sort of thing that can just happen out of nowhere one minute the ps3 will sound and play just as well day you bought it the next it will just be dead.

This seems to be going pandemic!

I as well have a launch 60GB which has shown no signs of slowing down. Keeps on trucking. Like a boss. Burly little fellow, considering all i've put it through.

I don't think it really matters what you put it through, I took care of my PS3 so well and it still crashed.
My opinion: LBP destroys PS3 as it is the PS3-game that crashes the most.

Crashes cannot be good for your PS3.

Actually, I've had very, very few crashes in LBP, strangely enough. The one or two times they happened, they absolutely killed me. But it's usually my other games that crash my PS3. Record-setter on my system is by far Fallout 3.2009-10-09 08:56:00

Really? I had crashes ever since I started enjoying online play on LBP.
Once it starts, it doesn't seem to quit. You just have to be lucky I guess.

When I had my new PS3 a few weeks ago te first thing that happened was LBP crashing on me...day one, brand new system.

Oh my god, that is the game that probably did it for me too! :O Seriously, it crashed all the time.

Oh, and Sony won't fix my Ps3 now, just saying I can get a new one but for cheaper than the original price tag. No. Screw them, anybody know another company that'll fix my ps3 for a reasonable price? 2009-10-11 08:15:00

Been there my friend, been there. I can tell you what i did though and it was hugely helpful to me.

If you have exceeded your warranty and want to have a new functioning PS3, with no concern for future breaks i advise this:

You live in the UK right?

Know the shop 'Game?' Well if you are located near one they are doing (or at least were 3 weeks ago) an offer on trading in old PS3's for a rather large discount on the slim. (Mine was ?120 for a brand new 120GB )

I decided to trade in my (broken) 60GB PS3 at Game but just to be on the safe side, sent it to a 'Console Mender' guy for a nominal fee. A week later it was fixed, but would only work for a month or so.

However, when trading in my PS3 they didn't even turn it on! So if you want to risk it and save about ?60 you can, but i cannot guarantee that they will not check if its fully running.

If i were you, i would do a little research on this. Go to the nearest Game and simply enquire about the offer and say:

"I'll think about it"

This gives you time to do what you want to do. Also, they will ask for everything the PS3 came with:

Controller
RGB Cable
RGB Scart adaptor (even though i lost mine, not a necessity)

The box that the PS3 came in is also not important, but thats up to you.

Good luck mate, hope you will find this helpful!

SonyStyle is selling new 80 GB PS3s with an extra controller for $250. I'd jump on that if I didn't already have two. 2009-10-13 11:37:00

Buying a new one that is.

But that's a real shame that it broke so quickly again. Hope you didn't pay too much for it.

This is why I offloaded my old PS3 to gamestation as soon as possible after my dad got it running again (after grabbing the saves, deleting everything and deactivating my account on that system).
