Pros for LBP

Archive: 27 posts

(Sorry if the title is misleading, I mean pros as in pros and cons)

Right, LBP is the game I am most syked about (obviously) and I want to share that experiance with my friends.

Now, I am trying to convince them this game is awesome, but when I try to explain it I go blank and make it sound rubbish.

I need you guys to give me a few sentances stating why it's sooooo good.

Thanks much,

Will.

P.S. Oh yeah and please don't just say get them to watch a video because they always just say no just explain it to me.

EDIT: P.P.S Well if you think I should show them a video please tell me a 2-3 minutes video which really sums the game up for you.

What I do with my freinds is I say.

"What do you wanna make? Gimme something hard, that you don't think you could make"

They say something that they think is impossible, and I tell them how to do it in a few words.

Hmmmm, yeah thanks. But I need to draw them in first...

Anyone else?

Ok thanks alot, please do ...

I think some people just don't get it, I think the more creative you are the more you get this game.

For example, I have had dreams where I could manipulate objects and shapes but I think some people lack creativity, and just like to follow the crowd, never creating anything.

Thanks,

Will.

LBP is everything you've seen in a sidescrolling game and more. More than 50 amazing levels and minigames come on the Blu-Ray, and you can use tools that are given to you to make your own levels, just like the guys at Mm.2008-09-20 13:38:00

Sweet that sounds awesome. But it sounds more like an advert than just casually explaining the game to your mates. Thanks alot though!

Anyone else?

Tell them if they've ever played a game, where you can build anything and everything you have possibly imagined. You can also tell them that the levels Media Molecule used are exactly the same things you can do. You can also tell them you'll give them 10 dollars, but that doesn't always work 2008-09-20 21:44:00

Hahaha! This reminds me of the first time I tried explaining LittleBigPlanet to my friends.

Me: "You have this sack guy that can make pretty much anything out of things like wood..."

My Friends (whom are completely immature): "Sack? Wood? No thanks."

I actually did force them into watching that 18 minute GDC video, and then they understood the awesomeness that is LittleBigPlanet!

Using Clank's idea, the method to use for getting them to like it:

1. Get friends in room.
2. Turn off lights.
3. Quickly tie friends to chair.
4. Begin running every trailer and gameplay movie you can possibly find back-to-back.
5. Untie friends.
6. Disappear.
7. Turn on lights.

It's foolproof!

Actually how I got my friends to watch the video was mentioning the video to them first, then calling them another time, ask them if they're busy, remind them about it, and there you have it, another person enlightened. 2008-09-20 22:02:00

You could always wait for the game to be released and give them a hands on experience.2008-09-20 22:07:00

Oh, come on. This is LittleBigPlanet we're talking about. That pretty much gives us the RIGHT to come up with Rube Goldberg ideas!2008-09-20 22:32:00

Part 1: YouTube - Little Big Planet GDC demonstration - part 1

Part 2: YouTube - Little Big Planet GDC demonstration - part 2

I'm pretty sure you must've seen it before and just don't recognize the name.

I think he's talking about the video of when LBP was first revealed (publicly)... Just search on youtube for "GDC 2007 LBP", it's in two parts.

EDIT: Oops, clank got there first

Here you go(one part). (http://www.n4g.com/events_gdc2007/News-28518.aspx) It's a great video, but it's outdated. For example, sackboy doesn't collect sponge anymore, he collects "eggs".

I have to say, the orginal GDC video is the best hook you can have. I have it on my PS3 (along with MANY other LBP videos ) and showing it to a friend is gold, it gets them very captivated. I have an extra problem though. A majority of my current friends are french-speaking, they understand english very well usually, but not the british accents and even less the aussie one in the latest trailer lol. So they get distracted by trying to understand what's being said... So I then resort to Mark D. Stroyer's plan. (loll, just kidding!)2008-09-21 01:14:00

There aren't any translated versions of the GDC video?

I doubt it, if there are I never thought to go find one :o

But that one isn't so bad, you get what's going on without the words, but the last trailer (with the aussie accent) much cooler if you understand what he's saying!

Still if anyone knows of any french translated trailers of LBP, feel free to post them for me (i.e. so I can bring my friends over to the LittleBigSide) :arg:

I'd have to agree with Rabid-Coot, most of my friends are more see it to like it kind of people. I'm just going to make a level, get them to play it and try to get their creativity flowing by asking "what should I put here" questions. I'm sure it will draw them in. If your friends hear you talking about it enough they are bound to give it a try. Or just resort to Mark D.'s foolproof 7 step program for not 5, not 4, but, 3 small payments of 89.99 +S&H. *batteries not included. :-)2008-09-21 06:16:00

Eggs, Sponge, Fluff, Score Bubbles?

They certainly went through a few ideas didn't they? I wonder if other platformers went through that kind of thing?

"I know, we can make Mario hit a block, and a CARROT comes out, when he eats it, he grows in size..."

"I don't know Bob (or generic Japanese name), Carrot? How about a potion or something that makes more sense?"

"No no no, I think we're onto something here, let me see, Onion?"

"No"

"Potato? Courjette? A plate of peas? Sprouts? Broccoli? Mushrooms? Beetroots?"

No, no, no, no, no, wait, go back one."

"Mushrooms? Alright, let's go with that. Now, when he hits a block again, a flower comes out ad when he touches it, he can shoot fire out of his hands..."

"What the hell have you been drinking Bob?"
