Tsunami!!!!!!

Archive: 7 posts

If you've been paying attention to the news lately you'd probably know there are a number of earthquakes and tsunamis around the Asia-pacific.

Well today there was another earthquake and it was very unique experience.

Once we herd about the warning everyone got out their cell phones and tried calling up their parents or friends. Many of us couldn't get through because the phone line crashed.

People constantly tried calling and calling, where as me and my friend got a guitar and a harmonica out and started playing a tune.
We felt like the Violinists on the titanic before it started sinking.
As the oldest Japanese Student in Fiji I went around the school making sure all the other Japanese Students were safe too. Many of them were primary kids, some were scared, but others were not so sure about the situation. Once all the other kids were safe with their parents, I too evacuated out of the school.
Many students didn't have a means to go home, most of them grabbing rides with their friends. Of-course public transport was halted at the time so people that didn't have cares were not so lucky, but there were many generous people giving out free rides.

It's interesting how in a chaos of events you can see the true sides of people. People that were always angry and selfish tend to be very generous and people that you thought were the nicest people in the world turn out to be really selfish.
My friend was telling me how his dad was constantly repeating "Are you safe? Are you hurt? I'm going to pick you up ok, Stay there, I'm coming as fast as i can"

The Tsunami warning isn't lefted yet, so I'm going out on the roof to see and try and take a video of it. Will update later!

Stay safe yall!

Update: The tsunami warning is now lifted and people say it's now safe. There still is no report of the casualties caused by the earthquake but it appears there is not going to be any tsunami.

According to CNN The first quake, with a magnitude of 7.8, struck at 9:03 a.m. (6:03 p.m. ET) at a depth of 35 km (22 miles) and an epicenter 295 km (180 miles) north-northwest of Luganville, Espiritue Santo, Vanuatu.

Well I suppose it's a good thing there was no tsunami, no?
This kind of thing sends shivers down my spine. The human race can sometimes be the worst or the best.

All the earthquakes here seem to happen at 2am...
I remember one a few years ago when we thought something had crashed through our garage door
