i <3 my PC. Though I HATE vista. Can't wait till my free update to 7 arrives.

Anywho, my old laptop I used to hate. The fan was bust and was so loud I could literally struggle to hear music over it. If i actually slapped the laptop really hard or slammed it against the bed it would stop the sound for an hour or 3. this went on for many many months, till one time i went to town on it and it blue screened me. Stupid little sod.

IMO 7 is a bit...pointless.
It's just Vista with an uglier taskbar.

I begrudgingly updated to vista because it was free. I really did not want it though, it's 95% bloatware and at the time was just unbelievably unstable and poorly supported. It's not so bad now it's more stable and I'm used to it, but I use about 50/50 XP and ubuntu at work and don't find any weirdness swapping between the three. I also have to use Solaris a bit and VxWorks a lot at work, but they are both purely command-line so I can't really get them confused with my desktops

Since going to vista (about 2 months ago now) I have had an unbelievable amount of problems to the amount I used to get on XP. It's seriously still not a great OS. Fortuanatly 7 is looking real tight, I can't wait.2009-10-07 21:07:00

You need to provide administrator permission to copy to this file (continue)
If you started this action, continue (continue)
Duplicate folders found - do you want to merge this folder with this one (yes)
Duplicate files found - do you want to copy/replace/don't copy (replace)
You must provide...

This is the worst part about vista.

Back on topic - I DO get mad at computers - and videogames - and the toaster. Ridiculously so at times. I don't really get mad at people. You'll never see me raise my voice at someone. But I get UNBELIEVABLY mad at machines. I love them dearly and I hate them passionately, all at once.

I mean, I don't scream and thrash my keyboard and then laugh maniacally and then squeal and stomp and throw a crazed german-language tantrum. But all that stuff does happen ON THE INSIDE.

I only get mad at my family's piece of **** laptop that takes 8 mins to open Microsoft Office and another 10 mins to open a document... I still have to use that comp for school... Mac OS X hasn't had any problems for me so far!

By the way, I actually prefer the look of xp to vista :/ Well, all I do is go to a website to pimp xp out!

My computer works great for the most part, the only issue I had was when the DVD drive stopped showing up randomly in My Computer. I clean it every 2 or 3 months, and it runs pretty speedily, despite being a few years old. 2009-10-08 01:25:00

I love computers and generally have positive experiences with them.

Today though it took me 5 hours to get my laptop working again when I started messing around with files I really shouldn't have. Every click of the mouse selected everything on screen and most of the keys came out with either "V" or a "^". Ugh.

I had that problem once. Easy solution. You will need:
A) 1x crowbar
B) 1x can of RAID
C) 1x vial of fairy tears
D) 1x copy The Tibetan Book of the Dead

1. Crowbar open the computer. Do it while screaming.
2. A tiny gremlin will either pop out, peek out, or perhaps stay hidden inside. If he's hidden inside, follow to 3. If he makes himself visible, skip to 4.
3. Spray the innards of your laptop with the RAID. He'll come out. They always come out.
4. Read line 24 of chapter 6 from the Tibetan Book of the Dead. Do it while dancing (your choice of dance). The gremlin will become immobilized.
5. Sprinkle the fairy tears on the paralyzed gremlin. He will transform into something resembling a Hostess snack cake, but for God's sake, don't eat it, just throw it out or give it to a hobo or something.

And that's all it takes. Surprisingly easy to fix for such an obnoxious problem.

In these cases, I just yell the word "Kalima" over and over while I rip out the internal processor.2009-10-08 12:53:00

ROFL @ Teebonesy. Good stuff man.

Loved Vista. Until it rendered my machine unusable about 6 weeks after purchasing (wait times of 10-60 seconds for EVERY click of the mouse. And forget printing or scanning - ALWAYS timed out). I eventually wiped the HD and reinstalled XP. The machine has been golden ever since. Will never buy another Microsoft OS until it's been on the market for at least 12-18 months. Ever.

I work with them every day. These days it's IBM products (at work) that make me want to defenestrate the box. But mostly I love them, and love the fact that I can make a decent living working with them every day.

Yup, I've had an 8 month rule for a long time now. I won't run an operating system until it's 8 months old.

The biggest issue seems to not necessarily be the OS itself, but the amount of time it takes for hardware vendors to get all the kinks worked out of all the drivers. That seems to be the primary reason Apple has been more stable - they have much more control over hardware.

Also, since Microsoft OS's are much more prevalent, they are targetted with viruses quite a bit more. So, Microsoft tends to be reactive with security.... which ends up causing other issues in updates.
