The Grief Relief Team

Archive: 216 posts

We have all noticed the growing trend of unwanted/offensive pics that are uploaded to a creators' level. So a couple of us brainstormed and came up with the idea of having a Grief Relief Team Group (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/group.php?groupid=202) here on LBPC.

So how does this work you might ask? It's simple really.

Step 1: You notice you have some offensive/unwanted pics uploaded on a level you worked really hard on - how rude!

Step 2: Why spend all that time trying to upload new pics yourself when others can do it for you? Send a PM to any one of our faithful members in this format:

1. PSN
2. Level Name
3. Date of your request
4. Type of offensive/unwanted pics

PLEASE DO NOT POST REQUESTS IN THIS THREAD.

Step 3: The Grief Relief team member will then post your request on our group page. The team will first check out your level to be sure that there really is offensive/unwanted pics. If there is, then we have a go on our mission! If we think there is no reason to replace any of your pics, then the mission is deemed a 'false alarm.'

Step 4: If we have a go on our mission, we will play your level and upload pics that do justice to your level. If we eventually get enough members on the Grief Relief Team, this should be a quick and routine op!

Step 5: Once the mission is complete, a group member will post on the Grief Relief Team group page that it is complete and that group member will also PM you to confirm our success.

-------------------------------------------------------

So who do you contact if you have unwanted/offensive uploaded pics? Here is a list of our members that you can PM (I will update regularly). Anyone who wants to become a member is welcome! The more members the better! In fact, if you become a member, let us know by posting in this thread.

- Powershifter
- Babydoll1970
- Burnvictim42
- Drakon136
- Manny_wtk
- Foofles
- Adlingtont
- ScoutsBoo
- KoRnDawwg
- KernelM
- Ungreth
- Rseah
- LittleBigSackBoy
- TheMarvelousHat
- Spider-Jew
- vOrtex
- Zwollie
- FreeFlyzz
- Frinklebumper
- Astrosimi
- Mod5.0

-------------------------------------------------------

What our group WILL NOT tolerate:

1. Offensive uploaded pics by the creator simply to gain more plays - if any group member has knowledge or reasonable suspicion of this, we will then decline our services to that creator permanently. That decision is ultimately up to the Grief Relief team members. If this becomes a regular problem, I [Powershifter] will keep an unpublicized list of those people and will notify the group if that person tries to use our services again.

2. We do not ask for the PSN's of the people who vandalized any level. If we happen to find out who that person was, we need to keep that information to PM's only. We are not here to single anyone out or ruin their reputation.

3. I feel this needs to be stated clearly: Our purpose is NOT to go after spammers/griefers. We are simply an organized 'Clean Up' team.

------------------------------------------------------

If Mm ever gives us the option to delete/accept uploaded photos from other players, this group will then be closed. But until then, we will work hard to give you the uploaded pics you deserve

------------------------------------------------------

Special Thanks:

- Babydoll1970 - Thanks for the idea and for helping me develop this group
- Manny_wtk - Thanks for coming up with the group name

I'd love to help but I don't even know how photo uploading works in the first place.

Good question! It's not too hard. Just take pic like normal, then go to your sticker menu, all the way over to your photos until you see the one you just took. Press triangle (I believe.. whatever button gives you 'more info&apos. Then select 'Upload Photo' and after a little bit your photo will be uploaded on the level you took it from. Once the photo is uploaded on the creator's level, you can delete it from your popit, and it will stay uploaded on their level. Also, when viewing people's uploaded photos on a level, you can press the square button to sift through all of the photos.

I'm not sure how many uploaded photos will stay saved on a person's level, but I think it might be around 10 or so? But I do know that only the most recent 10 photos are displayed, which is why the Good Grief Team can go in and upload some pics until all of the unwanted pics are gone.

So, now that you know what you're doing, go ahead and join the team!

You could always make a logo in LBP itself.

But can one upload pics using the PS3 onto an image-hosting site?

yes you can - just upload the photo to your HD then use a flash drive to transfer the photo from your HD to your computer then you can upload to photobucket or similar site.2009-10-07 21:18:00

As much as I would like to agree with you, it just goes against what I feel is right. I'd rather we not hand out scarlet letters to people because it would simply discourage them from using this site, and that's not what the team was made for. I see where you're coming from, I'm just trying to explain why it was decided this way. Thanks

Actually I agree with keeping it private. I think if enough people are on the look out and we see the same offenders (and it's hard to prove who actually uploaded when a group is involved) there are other ways it can be dealt with. In the meantime, someone (I think it may have been Morgana) said it's not worth giving them the attention.

http://www.interney.net/blogs/media/blogs/melhoresdomundo/hartman.jpg

I don't think it's a matter of "soft". Really, what purpose would it serve other than to cause trouble for the offenders and eventually the people out for "payback"? Flaming them in LBP or on a site will only get the poster into trouble so where's the positive to taking a contributing valuable member of the LBP community (one of you lot) and getting them into trouble (bans, silencing, or other kinds of "payback" from groups of offenders) if you begin to harass, call out, and generally fuel the flames of outrage in the community against these repeat offenders?

These guys will feed off the negative attention and notoriety at best and continue to do what they do or the person calling them out may be hurt in the process in one of the ways I listed above at worst.

It's just not worth it. (calling them out)

So yea, not soft - just keeping the peace without threat to the constructive members of the community would be how I'm looking at this. I like the way Powershifter has organized this putting the emphasis on dealing with the photos in question. I think it's a noble cause and a service that is useful because of the way MM has the photo posting set up.

Indeed I was, thus all the 's.

Although I have to admit that I do feel people should be held accountable for their actions... especially where crude pictures on a family rated forum or game are concerned. I hope at the least, that the team will be PM'ing said offenders and letting them know that what they are doing is not appreciated and is hurting the creators of the levels they are uploading the pics to.

Some one spammed uploaded a plain grey texture picture on my level "Ancient Burning City". I would upload my own pictures.. but then that kind of defeats the fun of seeing what other people upload..

So, may I ask that some of you guys to go through and upload some nice pictures?
Plus I think you will like the level as you are playing too

Obviously what this person did, isn't offensive.. but it is annoying.

I'm very glad that we could be of service to you! However, for future reference, and to anyone else reading, please send your grief relief requests to me or any one of our team members through PM, rather than posting them on this thread. Thanks!

Thanks for the head up Ranger. This mission might take a bit longer; tags are not a easy to remove as pictures. I don't call the shots though, I'll get Powershifter and wait for commands.

EDIT: In retrospect, I'm not sure about this one. A "weird" tag isn't exactly the same as pictures of male privates on your level's page. It's not something that's considered "griefing". What people think of your level through a pre-established system is not something we take care of (In my opinion). It's, in my view, like saying that your level is rated 2 stars; sure, it's bad, but who are we to raise you to 5 stars? It might be good, but that isn't what we're for. We're not a booster club, we're crime-fighters; no offense.

Sorry lad. But whatever, I haven't played those levels, so I will and I'll support the cause.

We need to enter and re-tag the level multiple times. Well, thats why I suggest to choose the highest positive tag next to "wierd". I'll go and help it by myself too.

I think rather than riling up some posse to be called on at any time, this thread should be used exactly as MisterVista has done above. If you notice that someone's level is being spammed, just help them out for the sake of being helpful, not because you belong to some team. That way, there are no obligations.

Why spend all that time trying to upload new pics yourself when others can do it for you?

Just thought I'd point out that sometimes uploading pictures yourself is the only practical way to get rid of unwanted photos, although it's very rare.

Due to a 'feature' of the LBP photo system, it's not always possible to clear out unwanted pictures unless you're the creator of the level. As I posted previously (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=25066-Level-Pictures&p=433898#post433898)...

The rules are pretty much like this:-

The pictures displayed will be either all the photos, or a subset of all the photos (up to a maximum of ten) taken by any player while playing that level, and subsequently uploaded to the server.
It doesn't matter what level you're playing, if any, when you upload a photo, it will always be associated with the level in which it was taken.
Photos will appear in descending order of the PS3's system time at the point where the photo was taken, so setting your system time to a point in the future will allow you to keep that photo nearer to the front of the list for longer. This is how those people who always appear on in the first photo in the story levels always stay as the first photo on the list.
Photos taken by the creator of the level will always appear before any other photos.
You cannot delete a photo once uploaded (although it can and will be deleted by a moderator if they deem it necessary), but you can force a particular photo to no longer appear in the list by uploading enough new photos to push it out of the list. The photo will still be accessible by other means, however.

...so the only guaranteed way to ensure that people can't add unwanted photos is by the creator uploading ten themselves.

As I said, it's very rare that someone would go to the trouble of setting their system clock to a point in the future in order to post annoying photos on a community level (although it's happened on all the story levels), but I just thought it was worth knowing.

I've uploaded around 4 pictures onto 'PLASMAVILLE'. They haven't been uploaded just yet though.

As for 'LBN: Tale of the Sea contest: Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea' I didn't see anything that needs to be gotten rid of...

Thanks for that.

There were 4 on the 'Voyage' level. No idea why they didn't appear for you but I've just been into that one myself and uploaded a bunch of new photos anyway. They haven't updated for me yet though.

Sorry for the double post but they've done it again.

I've just logged on and they've uploaded 5 more to the 'Voyage' level and 6 on 'PLASMAVILLE'.

If the cowardly scumbag had any balls at all they'd identify themselves. I just hope it's no-one on this forum, that would be disappointing.

Anyway your help in removing these again would be appreciated and if anyone has any idea who it is please let me know.

Thanks.

I think anyone who reads this thread should consider themselves part of the "team" as it were. I don't think you have to officially be on the team to help. If you see someone asking for help - take a few minutes and upload a pic or two. I know I really appreciated the service the two times I've had to call on the community for help.2010-04-15 17:26:00

comph's and Morgana's points are spot on.

But, if you do want to officially be a member of the Grief Relief Team, you can join by joining the group in the social groups. When other members catch wind of any need for assistance, the request is posted in the group discussion and Powershifter is pretty diligent about sending out messages to the team requesting help. The group is only as active as the requests are, so it isn't always busy.

It should be noted upfront that the group's purpose is not revenge, it is more of a cleanup and beautify type group. Spreading the love by wiping the hate.

They have now stepped up their campaign and posted yet more offensive pictures. They are now going round all my other levels too.

Some of them now say 'Euro Trash' which leads me to believe they are american/canadian and it's looking more and more likely they are a memeber on this forum because as soon as there is a post saying someone has uploaded some decent photos they are there putting the bad ones up again.

Sorry to hear about all of this happening! I've uploaded some photos onto both the levels MrV mentioned. I noticed that Luos's most recent level has also got the same photos on it so I've added a couple there too. Now onto yours MrsV!

EDIT: MrsV's level seems to be OK again for now.

Either that or upload ten pictures yourself. It's perhaps an extreme course of action, but any pictures uploaded by the creator will always appear before anyone else's.

I think rather than riling up some posse to be called on at any time, this thread should be used exactly as MisterVista has done above. If you notice that someone's level is being spammed, just help them out for the sake of being helpful, not because you belong to some team. That way, there are no obligations.

You know, we're actually already a (social) group and have been for quite some time - seems to be working well and we've helped out quite a few people with these problems. In case you didn't know, that's all. No-one's obligated of course but people do their bit.

I didn't realise this thread was still running. I thought we were just dealing with issues over in the Social group :/ But hey, that's cool.

Mistervista.. I uploaded a ton of pics onto three of your levels this afternoon. What an idiot that guy is... I loved your Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea level. Great stuff and visually wonderful! Someone's obviously jealous Good luck with the comp.
I have to say that uploading 10 pics on that switch for comphermc level was a challenge (to get some variety, I mean) but hopefully the bad pic is now gone. I'll check again when I get the chance. How did you get the lights to dim there? It was fabulous!

I've been doing that but unfortunately it's not possible to eliminate them all if you have more than 10 levels ( I have the full 20 ) as you can only have 100 pictures stored at any one time so to upload 10 pictures on each level means you can only cover 10 levels. Upload 1 more picture and your first 1 is deleted.

Thanks babydoll, I appreciate that. I've locked every level but 'Voyage' now as I have to leave that open for the contest.

As for the lights dimming I simply attached a mag key and mag switch set to speed. At least I think I did ! I'm not good with logic and tend to make things up as I go along lol.

By the way they have uploaded more offensive photos again since last night on my 'Voyage' level. They've obviously got nothing better to do and must be sick in the head.

They've also uploaded the same ones on mrsvista's only level and some of Fender's levels.

I think we really need to get an official petition together and send it to Sony asking them to change the system. They must be aware of the problem and it can't be that difficult for them to fix it. It just needs lots of us to keep complaining until they do something. I have emailed them several times in the past when this was happening to other people but they aren't going to listen to just me. I have also messaged Sam and Spaff. Get with me people and let's get Sony to fix it !!

I'm not sure, but doesn't the game select a random group of photos that show up for your level each time? Or am I wrong? It'd work fine if there was a photo limit or something.2010-04-16 12:08:00

I am getting the sticker "Euro trash" on my new level too. Its soooo stupid! I feel like turning into a mum and banging their heads together telling them to PACK IT IN!

Just to add that two of Luos's levels are also being targeted by the same people. I've uploaded some photos but not enough to get rid of all the bad ones.

It's funny because at the same time I also uploaded some to mistervista's Voyage level and they don't seem to have shown up or else they've already been replaced by more bad ones! Keep trying, I guess! Great level BTW, mistervista - the pancake and the desk lamp which switches on just made my evening, lol!

That's a shame. I wasn't aware there was a total photo limit per person. Still, at least it's a viable option for mrsvista who I believe only has one published level.

In your case, the best option might be to upload five per level to minimize the chance of the latter five being seen by anyone else.

For those who are kind enough to help out, note that you can keep your photos nearer the start of the list by setting your PS3's system clock into the future before taking the photo, but be aware of this problem (http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/General-Discussion/Time-Bug-Help-P/m-p/231485) if you decide to do this...

Well, after setting my time to 2100, playing a few hundred thousand levels, I decided to reset my time back to normal, so now, my recently played list wont budge anymore because it thinks i've played these levels in the future, which is more then now(lol). Also, my users ive played with list wont move either. Anyway to fix this?

...so maybe don't set the clock too far into the future.

I just don't understand why Sony can't make it impossible to upload photos anonymously.

I'm not sure why this is an issue. Photos aren't really uploaded anonymously. Even if there's no-one in the photo, the PSN ID of the user who took the photo is still logged when the photo is uploaded, so if the photo is reported via the Good Grief! system (assuming that's possible), it should be possible for the moderators to remove the photo, and take further action against the user who uploaded it, if they deem it necessary.

I don't know how effective the LBP moderation system actually is, but we certainly don't want to be encouraging the community to be taking revenge against those who are uploading the inappropriate pictures.

Just checked your Voyage level mrv and there is one offensive picture on there.

I also checked my own levels and sadly they too have been targeted, the same pictures have been used.
There are offensive pictures on Rise of the Snow Queen, Caverns of the Snow Queen, Sun, sea and Stardance the dolphin and Save Moby.

If it is someone on the forum can I ask what was wrong with The Frog Chorus, wasn't that good enough for offensive pictures?

I can't help but wonder if it's only members of LBPC with this problem. I can't be bothered to check loads of levels from non members personally but it does seem strange that mrv, mrsv and myself have been chosen for this ridiculous campaign since it's no secret that we are friends. Well whatever it is we have done to upset the numpty with the happy snappy trigger finger, I hope it gives them lots of satisfaction. It makes me sad to see peoples dedicated work trashed, but I really can't be bothered, the whole thing is a farce.

At least you're getting some more plays, right?

It may seem silly, but just let it go. Anyone who is versed in the world of LittleBigPlanet knows that the author has no control over which pictures are uploaded. I would just laugh at the silliness of it all, thank that person for the extra play, and gad on merrily with my day.

At the end of the day, if the level does get moderated, it's an excuse for a fresh start. Your level would get a new life and it may garner a few plays that wouldn't have happened otherwise. Plays and hearts gone? No worries. They are not all too important after all.

That’s right, it will only get to you if you make a big deal out of it… and this seems like a big deal to me. You wont really achieve much doing this, it’ll probably just bug you more… best to just try and ignore it.

If there is any highly offensive pictures your not happy about, just upload ten photos of your self on your own levels. But that will just probably start a picture uploading war on your level or some other rubbish like that.
It has happened to some friends levels, just constantly uploading bad pic’s. It just seems people do it to annoy you… and if you let them, they wont stop any time soon.
Best to be the bigger man (or gal) and just walk away XD

Oh and a level will never get moderated based on a photo taken in it, just based on the things in the level. So if the content of the photo is produced by the person uploading it… like something written out with stickers for example, then the level should be okay.

More specifically, whoever it is seems to be mostly targeting people who've posted to this thread, as it seems one of my levels has now had the same thing happen to it. So it's clearly nothing to do with a level's popularity, since none of mine are proper levels really.

I've just submitted a Good Grief! report. I'll see if this has any effect or not, but if everyone else were to do the same, I'm sure the perpetrator will soon have his PSN account blocked.

@Everyone...been doing some investigative analysis into this issue. At the time the most recent pics were uploaded, there were 2 LBPC members and a MOD viewing this thread, and 3 visitors. The 2 members were targets of the uploaded pics, so we can rule them out, and it is obviously not the MOD. That leaves the 3 visitors, which have 3 unique IP addresses for the computers they used to view this thread. It's just a matter of time to determine which IP it is (if you can see where I'm going with this Aya042) based on timestamps and a reoccurring IP address. So, to the "visitor" who is viewing this thread to obtain information for people to target, your childish behavior might well result in repercussions you never expected. My advice is to find another way to amuse yourself...possibly play some of the great levels by the creators of this site. Oh...forgot 1 thing, Play Station Network also has your PSN ID and IP address, and they aren't very tolerant, which could cause you to be banned from PSN. Something to consider before you pull another prank on individuals who have very strong ties with Sony.2010-04-16 16:34:00

Strangely, although I had not posted on this thread before, I have also been targetted.. which I find quite baffling!

Those of you who know me also know I don't muck about with stupidity, so I will be posting the following e-mail to Sony as follows..
Dear Sirs

My PSN account: Rhyfelwr

Recently, there are a number of Little Big Planet creators who appear to be subject to a grudge attack from one or more persons. These attacks are in the form of several extremely offensive and graphic images being uploaded onto the creators levels. The attacker has been careful not to include themselves within the image, under the misapprehension that their activity has not been logged automatically, regardless of whether they physically appear or not.

The PSN of the creators being attacked over the past 2 days are as follows:

mistervista
mrsvista
lady_luck__777
RickRock_777
Fenderjt
IceMaiden
Rhyfelwr
luos_desruc
CANDY_KING_ALEC
Aya042

Unfortunately, we cannot trace the source of the attacks and are therefore unable to reason with the individual(s) concerned. The only plausible evidence we have is the relationship with users on www.lbpcentral.com (http://www.lbpcentral.com).

I understand that you receive many such complaints, but on this occasion, the effects are far-reaching and affect numerous innocent and well respected PSN users.

I understand that, under the PEGI age rating system, you have an obligation to enforce, as far as is reasonably possible, the ongoing suitability of the 7+ rating of the game.

If no action is taken to discover the identity of the perpetrators and enforce the games' age restrictions, I will have no choice but to approach PEGI directly and escalate this further.

I look forward to your prompt response.

Kind regards

************************

I would strongly recommend that the individual concerned take note of this and consider their current situation very carefully.

@comphermc - I am quite surprised by your lack of sincerity, considering the position in this forum you have. I would have thought you would have recognised that several creators are highly passionate about their work and the suggestion to "let them be moderated" and "start over" is, in my opinion, highly irresponsible.

In comphy's defense, I think his motivation for this comment is to avoid one of the things which CCubbage mentioned in his Consideration (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=25223-Consideration) post from happening again...

In the last few months, I've seen bad sportsmanship associated with site contests (here and related to other site's contests), people calling each other names (I've been called a few things I won't mention lately...), relentless and unhelpful showcase posts, calling kids stupid, threads encourgaging retaliation against specific PSN's (which are probably just young kids messing around), attacking MM employees with no proof of wrongdoing, calling people retarded, attacking the publishing practices of decent members here (by their actual PSN names).....

Hopefully a combination of Good Griefing and e-mailing Sony as you suggest will be far more effective than trying to track down the identities of those responsible, since, although difficult for us, it's incredibly trivial for them to find out who is responsible, and permanently block their access to the PlayStation Network.

@Rhy...thanks for following up with that email. Hopefully it will do some good and draw some attention to the issue.

@MrV...I noticed you uploaded some helpful pics to Takken--thanks! I will also be watching to help where I can.

Considering all the facts we have so far about this individual, I don't believe they are a child. Consider the pics they uploaded--a nice font, a fairly well crafted toilet, a variety of materials and colors used in the background, use of a camera...in other words, they did not haphazardly throw something together like a child or very young person would with limited focus. I would also deduce they are a creator and have been so for a period long enough that the "creator" part of their personna leaks through on a subconcious level--in other words, they considered visual aesthetics during the development process.

Just thinking out loud

Well good morning, everybody! Rhy, if you haven't sent off your e-mail yet, can you please add my name to your list as a couple of my levels have been hit. I feel special now Maybe we need a "Crap Club"? Seeing as the membership has been growing quite rapidly

I'm not too bothered by it, to be honest, as my levels aren't exactly high profile (nor am I) so we'll get round to fixing it at some point and I may Good Grief the pics - if I am safe from having the levels moderated.

But I will keep swinging by the others when I can to upload more pics. They may be visitors on this forum, but they also may be getting our psns from the pics that are uploaded and not from here. However, seeing as they know of people like Rhy enough to put their unfortunate stamp on level albums, I'd wager they do visit here. Most of us post LBPC stickers somewhere in our levels, right?

This is the same mentality as kids who go round spray painting their 'tags' on people's property, as I've said before. Eventually people grow out of it and (hopefully) mature, so I'm not coming out with my pitchfork, however, I'll still keep doing what I can in the uploading department. He's one person - possibly two. We're many. *joins hands round the circle - requiring that some have to temporarily put down their pitchforks*

Indeed. I was actually very sincere. I think you may have gotten the impression that I was not being sympathetic, but you have misread my intentions.

There is a vast difference between being unsympathetic and searching for the positives in a highly negative situation. I assure you the former was not at all the case, and the latter was exactly what I was doing. It is clear that whoever is doing these things will continue to do so as long as it gets a rise out of the people they are doing it to. I relayed these sentiments to MisterVista outside of this thread, so my comment was more directed at him than anyone else. I'm not sure why this individual finds it necessary to antagonize others, but it's really of no consequence.

I do think that you guys should contact Sony through whatever channels possible, but in the meantime I wouldn't stress out over the images uploaded. As I stated before, you have no control over those images. Sure, you can upload more images and fight it out with this person, but I'm of the mind that that is exactly what he/she wants. Let them waste their time.

As for the moderation issue. It sucks. Sure, I'm fine with that. But...(but!)...backup your levels. If a level gets moderated, publish it again. Heck, someone who never played it the first time might see it up the servers and get to enjoy it themselves. The only thing besides the time it takes to publish again that will be lost is the record of all the plays and hearts accumulated on the original. At this point in the game (pun intended) these should mean very little to creators. I would gladly take one new person enjoying any of my levels over all the hearts it may have. I guess it's all down to what you value about your levels. Is it others enjoying them or is the recognition you get from them.

That was very much a digression, but I like to think of it as seeing the small positives amid a situation seemingly void of positives. It was my attempt to breathe a little consideration back into the whole ordeal. In that sense, Aya was right on the money.

Sorry you took it the wrong way.

Comph, people react to bad situations differently and you should respect that. Mrs.SpookyBuz left the site because of her arguments with other members. In the same way, not everyone can just brush this under the rug. Mr.Vista had "Euro Trash" uploaded on his levels. It's more than immaturity, it's personal attacks and racism. Also, if a level gets moderated, a lot of the victims here would have to mass publish it over again and message their friends again about their level.

Edit: I know you definitely didn't mean to disrespect anyone, so apologizing was very sincere.

In regards to the consideration thread, I just think:

-We should all try to be sympathetic and respectful.
-We should let the kind grief relief team do its job and hope for the best.
-We shouldn't be too hateful towards the attacker(s), who is just another mindless, pitiable spammer.

I never said you said it was acceptable.

You're apologizing for him taking it the wrong way, but the way you worded it makes me imagine it could be easy for someone to take that the wrong way.

It's easy to take virtually anything the wrong way, depending on the attitude of the person reading the message. Happens to me quite a bit....

I seem to remember reading a while ago that MM doesn't moderate levels based on uploaded pictures... they just remove the pictures. I could be wrong, however.... it did happen on one of my levels though - a nasty picture turned into a blank nothing.

Of note, I found that on Splat III I was able to push bad pictures off by uploading a bunch myself.... then the next group of uploaded pictures went in AFTER mine. I haven't done extensive testing on this, but it seemed to work.

Well it would be nice if someone on this forum came forward and told us who it is because I am totally convinced that someone knows. As RickRock quite rightly pointed out they have obviously taken some trouble in making objects to make all those stickers in the first place and there is no way they would do that and not show them off to their friends so there is bound to be someone reading this who has seen those stickers and thought "Oh yeah I recognise those, I know who made them".

Well now is your chance to be mature and tell the rest of us who it is. Come on, do the right thing. You'll probably be doing them a favour actually because if Sony find out before we do it'll be much worse for them.

OK - Haven't been playing much LBP of late, but I got curious after the last few days of reading this thread. So I fired it up and low and behold I had not been targeted. So I uploaded pics in mistervista's and CCubbage's levels. I am curious how long I will now have to wait for "retaliation".

What a ridiculous way for one to spend their time.

This is all... quite disappointing really. I personally can't believe that they're wasting their time posting pictures of pooing people on levels on an online game. It must have taken them upwards of 10 minutes to do the carving at least, and that's 10 minutes they could have used to do anything really... read a book, throw a stone at someone they didn't like to get rid of some of that inward frustration, do whatever they do when they're alone at night and angry at the world...

Either way, if this was worth getting their account banned I would have liked to have seen a real effort to do something offensive. After all, pooing is a part of human life and we've all seen it, particularly on animal documentaries or if we've ever walked behind someone's pet dog on the pavement. If they wanted to get banned for doing something offensive, why not do something really offensive like posting "your mum" in big red letters, or doing something with wee? It's widely underused, and on about the same level of maturity. Plus I'm assured that you can change the colour of actual in-game water using the settings menu...

Yes, if you're reading I'm getting at the fact you're utterly pathetic. And my levels (with their princely 100 plays each because I'm such a hot stuff creator) are both locked. So have fun uploading pictures of people performing their ablutions. Please God, not someone brushing their teeth! Heaven help us all!

The only thing I can really guess at while we wait for Sony to track their IP and ban their PSN (probably resulting in another anger-fuelled bout of poop chucking) is to think about who the hell has the free time to do this, or the reason. I can only think it might be...

1) a lurker with a lingering psychological disorder
2) someone who really hates a big bunch of people on this forum, but has no real life friends and needs the attention really bad
or
3) someone who used to be a member of the forum, knows everyone's links to each other (why jump from the vistas to ice maiden and then rhy?) and has some kind of lingering grudge.

Either way, let's hope Sony catches them soon... I have OCD and washing poo out of polystyrene isn't much fun (all I'm gonna say is DIMPLES people, DIMPLES!)...

This is just getting plain silly. (I apologise if I repeat something that's already been said, can't be bothered to read such long posts ). My level has just been attacked. It's obviously either a lurker or a member, personally I hope it's a lurker, I would hate to find out a member of such an awesome community would do such a thing. I also suggest, if you haven't already been attacked, DON'T post in this thread.

However, I do know that the person uploading these pictures will be reading this, so this is to you:

First of all, I want you to think, just think about how you would feel if someone did this to something you'd spent a few months on, not so good I expect?

So, you have, 2 choices (You don't even need to say what you choose):

1) You can carry on uploading pictures to people's levels. However, I have some ideas in mind to find you. I will do something much worse than what you've been doing, I will report you to Sony. They will ban you and your days of uploading pictures will be over, along with your PSN account. Seems harsh? That's because it is.

2) You stop uploading pictures, we will all forget about this and you get away completely 100% free.

I suggest you make your decision, and you make it now. I don't see why you feel the need to do this but hopefully you will change your mind. Please choose wisely.

Thank you.

You know, just a theory here - this is a GREAT opportunity to post a message publicly on MM's web site explaining what's happening here.... instead of giving the person the satisfaction of reading the "upset" that's being caused by the pics. Personally, I thought the pics on Roll Out The Barrel were pretty funny. But this is the perfect opportunity to LEAVE THE PICTURES ON THE LEVELS and post to MM showing the results - it could encourage them to do something about it. Sony could take direct action against the person and make and example since it isn't an isolated incident.2010-04-17 14:03:00

Hi folks, mrv has just found two different pics on his two unlocked levels. We now have 'Poo Poo Head' and 'Cry Baby'! We also noticed Rhy has them on his two levels too!
We are now at least getting a bit of variety, we were getting fed up of the old ones!
I wonder if they will do requests???

What's the best way to do this? I've left the photos on my level too as they're crass but kind of amusing in their stupidity. I don't want them there forever but would like MM to see the obvious flaws in the system.

I think Vortex's description is apt - it's completely childish. Whoever you are (and I'm sure you'll read this at some point in your self-congratulatory gloating), why not use your limited creativity for good rather than evil. You might even find it more satisfying. At the moment all you're doing is wasting a bit of our space and time and you are ultimately of no consequence to any of us. And if you decide to post something retaliatory on my levels, something with Hugh Jackman would be good, thanks. Maybe in a greyish-blue...

Icey, I think that's a great idea! LOL!

Well, I'm performing an experiment. I "good griefed" the uploaded images on "Roll out the Barrel" to see what would happen. Will just the images be removed? Will the entire level disappear? I'll just wait and see. If just the pictures get deleted, most likely if EVERYONE starts doing it they will see a repeat-offender IP address start to emerge and do something about it. Obviously things are a little more serious than we first thought. We are clearly dealing with a mastermind. I could never have thought of that in a million years. It's the ingenious way it has been linked to the original pic managing to change the text by enough to avoid infringement of copyright. Incredible, nobel prize winning, genieistical powers of creation!

Aya sent in a good grief report on Friday (I think). Has there been any reaction to that yet?

Nothing yet, but I think it was quite late on Friday, and the LBP moderation team may not work over the weekends. I shall post an update on the situation when I get a response.

Frankly I don't know why they bothered targetting me, as all my levels are rubbish anyway, so I couldn't care less. If they think it's gonna make me waste my time trying to get rid of them by uploading new images, they're sadly mistaken, so they've just wasted several minutes of their life which they're never getting back.

Yet again im sorry for the levels that have been targeted, it is very upsetting and i know how that feels.
Some of you may know (there is a thread about this) that i have recently been attacked by a fenderjt clone!
They have been going around levels uploading photos of pink and blue stickers saying "No good" or "Bad level".
They are wearing a hat with the sticker "fenderjt" on it to make it look like me. The name doesnt show up in the photo as they are doing a trick where you can upload photos without a name showing.

I was very upset by this and had to message all my friends to warn them that this wasnt me! I also noted this on my new level Dual Shock in the description.
I have a few messages saying "fender why are you hating on me?" and "why are you uploading bad pics on my levels??". Obviously i messaged them straight away saying that this was not me.

I had a message to my psn today saying something around the lines of "Um....hi, i am sorry for uploading bad photos pretending to be you. Please can you message ******* to let them know i am sorry so i dont get banned. I dont want to be banned im sorry" (I do not want to give away any names at this precise moment) I checked the profile of this user name and it was a new account with no trophies etc. Just a name and that they were from England. I also tried to check the senders name and the name stated in the body of the email but nothing came up on lbp.
I messaged them back saying "The situation was very upsetting and every account related to the name will be affected"
I then got another message back saying "Sorry i was bored and had just lost all of my data"
I was shocked to hear this! I got targeted because they were BORED AND UPSET!! Its just ridicolous and disgusting that they would use me to make themselves feel better because they are down. It has really got to me and i dont think they will get away with it.

There has been a lot of greif on lbp lately and for them starting this as well was a bad move.

I hope this will all stop soon as it is ruining lbp!

P.s To Rhyfelwr, your email to Sony is very well done!! Thank you!

I am extremely reluctant to believe this person is sorry. It took quite a bit of time to upload multiple pics and do follow ups attacks over a series of days.( especially since some of those attacked initially are not "high visable").
If they had been sorry it would have taken all of 5 mins. to directly apologize to the targeted creators instead of asking you to do so Fender.
This also comes only after members have decided to try and get resolution from MM and Sony. So it seems not that they are sorry but that they don't want to be banned.

Bored and upset?? What does this person think they have done to the creators that this statement will make it all ok??

Sorry for my venting, I just don't understand why this behavior truly happened in the first place.

Sorry to say this but this person is not the spammer of all the pics of everyone's level including mine. He just cloned me and uploaded pics pretending it was me, this is a different situation. He messaged me to say sorry because i threatened the situation and someone else did too so he got scared. We still dont know who the actual spammer is who does the poo pics

Holy lot of activity on this thread Batman!!

I haven't had a chance to read all the requests/posts, but rest assured we do have an active team. Sometimes it's a long time before we get a request so it's hard to ban the team together at moments notice, but like Comph and Morgana pointed out a few pages ago, if you see a request here - go ahead and post some pics even if you're not technically part of the group. If you would like to join the group, please do!!

Also, if you would like to be a part of the team AND help me with moderating the requests, please let me know. These days the spotlight crew has been getting most of my attention, so please - ANY and ALL help is welcome!

Thank you for being willing to help other people, because honestly, that's what it's all about

I accidently tested some stuff when I lag-deleted my level instead of republishing it.
Well testing is a big word..

Anyways, I published my cave level and within a minute a few people had played it, and rated it 2 star...
they litterally exited the level after it was loaded and rated it low on purpose.
(or really didnt spend any time to give it a shot)
so deleted the level again, republishing.
after 2 minutes, same story again.. 2 plays 2 stars.
Delete - publish, few minutes later, 2 plays 2 stars and a photo of a but! whoohoo!!!

Now unless they really really hate my visuals I can understand why you want to quit instantly..
Dunno what the levels ratings are now,
but after a good night of sleep i almost demand badly drawn butt photo's on my level

Luos, that happens to me everytime i publish now. Its goes down to 1 star straight away. I have to lock my level for a few hours and get my friends to play it. Its safer that way.

I havent been on my ps3 but have found out from a friend that someone has uploaded pics on my Dual Shock level calling me a man etc. This pics were especially made for me, i had someone spamming comments on my level to saying "a man made this level" and some very disgusting and nasty words too. Im guessing this is the person who is uploading the pics.
Well bad move, i have their psn name. Doesnt matter if its one of their 10 accounts, i have a name and i guess il try to do something about it.

I hope Song sort it massive issue asap. Lbp is being taken over. Imagine newcomers seeing all this on peoples levels!? Its so stupid.

Interesting note on low ratings when first published - me and RangerZero did a LOT of testing on this. The conclusion both of us came to is that there are players that just sit there and way for someone to publish, then jump in and low rate. Generally I have done what Fenderjt does.... I will lock it, go into it from a sub-account, rate it high to begin with, then open it and tell my friends it's ready to play. It sounds like a ridiculous process to go through, but after many tests we confirmed it's absolutely true and necessary to initially protect from low ratings.2010-04-20 12:58:00

As a bit of wild speculation, I would imagine these are often the same people who sit and spam publish their levels. If you have the mentality to spampublish (i.e. push yourself to the front of visibility despite the mundaneness of the task), then you probably have the mentality to reduce the visibility of rivals (as this will further improve one's own visibility). You can probably get in a pretty efficient cycle of [ publish -> check page 1 -> downrate a level -> repeat] if that's the way you wanna play the system.

And of course targetting the new levels will maximise your negative impact as you have the most power over their overall rating at this point. Plus subsequent players will often just rate whatever the current rating is multiplying the effect your initial downrating has.

I assume so,
After Holden1heart and x2home stole stuff from me in the editor and kicking/blocking them,
other people in my friends list started asking me if I could re-add them. (around 10 people in total)
As there are some fans of my series in my psn list (50 or so) I wouldnt be surprised that there are at least one of two that could do this,
but I hate to think so.
I have been adding less and less people over the month as some do not have the common courtesy to leave stuff in my editor alone.
But its hard to refuse when they are polite and ask if they could take a look in the editor.
But for these occasions Worm made me a entry sign saying :
"No glueing, no landing, no stealing or face the wrath of the hairy one"

Ooh it even quotes in magenta
Yea I figured that out,
It even made me consider not to republish to get more plays.
I rather have 30 people of lbpc play my levels and rate fair than 3k people of which half rather play a rocket cheetah water level
It does feel good to see so much plays, but one of my dutch friends made a "Free cod weapons" level and got 17k plays and the level is still 5 stars.
His vision is a simple and probably correct one though.
"Kids play the levels, and they like prizes over gameplay"
Which is sad imho because when I was young, nothing could make me feel more exiting than making it to the end of a level..
I think if they would release old NES/SNES/Genesys levels nowadays.. most kids wouldnt be able to finish the games.
My brother actually wants his kids to grow up playing the NES at age 5, SNES at age 6 and so on untill the newest consoles just so his kids have the experience and understanding of the history of gaming.
Im drifting of again... zuduzuduzudu.

All we can do is ignore the trolls and other annoying people.
Oh, use the word ban a lot... they get scared if you do

It sounds like a ridiculous process to go through, but after many tests we confirmed it's absolutely true and necessary to initially protect from low ratings.

I have done this before, but the redicilous long loading time lbp takes to boot up and log on with my brothers account just takes so long I cant really be bothered by it, Luckily one of my friends comes over from time to time and has a genuine interest in my creations and isnt afraid to tell me whats wrong with them.. and plays them on my brothers Acc. (Hopefully rating them high).

You know,
I actually never thought about that..
Sure you have heard my whining about certain people in the main lbp community..
but this has never even crossed my mind, and I would hate the thought of people actually doing this.
I can understand that I might have ticked off some people either on lbp or here on lbpc and that maybe one or a few people got so angry that they target me/my levels..
but actually random negatively targeting people to improve your own visibility by low rating, spamming pictures and even spamming the comment box on your level... thats just.. (dont worry wont go there but you get my point)
That person could use a really really long hug telling him its allright and that he doesnt have to be angry...

Maybe we should start our own spam group
a love 4 love spam group
A very positive one.. only leaving kind comments and high ratings on levels that deserve it..
but then again.. who are we to decide what level would deserve such a treatment and which level doesnt..

*still shocked by rtms assumption*
Actually, this had occurred to RangerZero and I a year ago.... however, I didn't want to publicly say it. But now that rtm has said it... well... I definately think there is something to it. Most of the time these low rating occur there is NO way a player could get in there, spend enough time to get frustrated, and exit. So it would need to be malicious for it to happen as quickly as it does.

But, most creators are used to this nowadays. It's a pretty easy thing to battle if you have some friends on the friend list. Just tell them the time you're going to publish so a number of them will be prepared to help your rating.

Yo, i got the fender situation handled...
If i'm correct in my theory, the person i caught first was asked to spam fender! If so, i'll find the "Leader" Soon enough.

I'll get my friend Chris to patrol the levels that are being spammed to try and join them online

mrv has two levels unlocked. At 2pm this afternoon they all had good pics on them.
He has just looked and his Voyage level now has 5 of the c**p pictures and his Incredibles level has 5 pictures with the c**p sticker very small next to a sticker of the LBPC logo, which looks like they are saying LBPC is c**p.

Same with Rhy's 2 levels, 6 of the c**p ones on Terminator and 7 of the same on the other.

Ok I just did an experiment, I locked my level so you needed to go to my key room to get a key, 10 minutes after I published my key room, he had went into the key room to get the key for my level. After that I had a lot of "bad" uploaded pictures on my "main" level. This guy doesn't have a PSN ID in some weird way because he wasn't on the scoreboad on my key room level, and he had was the only one that had finished it.2010-04-20 17:29:00

So the person who is causing this is a member of lbpc or regularly visits this site. Well i hope they've read the email that was sent to Sony. I know for a fact this spammer will be caught in the end. They think they are invisible but what they actually are doing is getting there selves banned slowly. As time will pass, they will soon live to regret this. They are digging their self into a big hole! If your reading this now spammer, i laugh at you laughing because soon we will be the only ones laughing at you feeling regretful!
Its not worth it, it really isn't. Sony will not let a game get ruined, it will put people off playing the game, and ruin the community. They wouldn't want that so lets just wait and see what will happen

Just to give everyone an update on my e-mail to Sony...

My original e-mail was greeted by a fairly standard response saying "please make a grief report on the playstation website"... useless because we don't have the username of the person responsible.

I have however just had a 1/2 hour conversation with their customer relations department and made a full report. This was not easy because their usual systems require a username.

Sony are able to trace the user concerned and I have been informed that the culprit will, at the very least, have their PSN account suspended. If it is decided that the grievance is strong enough, the users PSN account will be banned and/or, the PS3 serial number & IP address will be blocked from using the playstation network permanently. This means that the culprit will not be able to use another PSN account on that Playstation.

I have ben told that this process will take a few days.

I figure I'm a pretty good guinea pig for this
So, does this work?

He once joined with that char in lbp and made a pic.

There's no way to remove a PSN. C'mon guys, no jumping to conclusions. It has to do with User, not PSN, and doing a controller identity exchange. Users have strange properties in LBP. My friend, shadow-x-soldier, has an secondary user called "." (just a period.) If he joins me, it reads "shadow-x-soldier wishes to join you". Then, when he's next to me, and I press L2, " . " is floating above his head.2010-04-29 04:28:00

But still, even blank or the "period" psn name can be traced

If this goes on, maybe we should all call costumer service.
if all of a sudden 10's maybe 100's of people would call.. they might be more willing to solve this fast

Just wanted to give everyone some reassurance.

Sony HO, (UK) have now submitted this to a team, yes a team of no less than 10 people! (why, I have no idea). They are in the process of investigating the matter and it has been decided that the severity is such that the user will have their console ID banned. This means that the only way this user will be able to access the PSN is to buy another console.

I will let you know when this has been done.

Rhy

I am not prepared to go into detail about how they are being tracked. Needless to say, Sony are not daft.

Unfortunately, I have been told that they will not release the userID of the person concerned. It is also possible that my levels may appear temporarily moderated while they investigate... D:

I've just submitted a Good Grief! report.

Just an update for anyone interested...

The offensive pictures have now disappeared from my level, although I can't be certain whether it's because they've been moderated, or the perpetrator[s] have uploaded so many more that the older ones are starting to be removed.

I have an update for you all...

I received a phone call from Sony today saying that the culprit has been identified and that Sony have now removed the offensive pictures from my levels. These have been replaced by older images taken before the offensive ones were posted.

They cannot reveal the identify of the individual concerned due to privacy laws (mumble mumble).

In addition, they will "punish" this person, although the guy I spoke to couldn't confirm what that punishment will be, other than it is likely to be a suspension and consoleID ban.

One of their managers will be phoning me back in the next 24 hours to tell me if they have been stopped.

I'm guessing though that this marks pretty much the end for our little troublemaker!!!

Rhy

P.S. - this does not necessarily mean that images have been removed from ALL levels affected, although I'm guessing they won't be able to upload any more....

If there is anyone interested in taking the lead for the Grief Relief Team, please PM either myself or BabyDoll1970. I'm eager to pass the torch along to someone who is more actively playing LBP. I love the group and what it does for the community, so I'm not willing to leave completely, but I am more than willing to step down as the point person. So again, if you're interested and willing to uphold our original standards of the group, please PM me or Babydoll1970 (or both of us!). Thanks!!
