Help with springboard

Archive: 3 posts

hey everybody!

I am just having problems with making a springboard that bounces the player into another direction consistently.

let me describe the situation:

you are falling straight down going at a fast speed. The springboard then hits the player in a perpendicular fashion, changing the players direction of motion 90 degrees.

the setup I am experimenting with is two blocks of material one side is dark matter the other side is some other material and in between is a piston that is controlled by a proximity switch, so when the player gets close it should activate.

Now I've been messing with the piston values, direction, all that stuff and I cant seem to find anything that functions consistently or functions at all for that matter.

Should i use a different setup?

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You could try moving the prox switch bellow if it's not already. As the player is fdalling past the switch (which is what I believe they are doing) they might not be in its range long enough for it to be turned on or on long enough.2009-10-06 08:48:00

This is kind of a recipe for disaster with LBP's physics system... since the board is moving fast and the player is already in accelerating motion, chances are it'll fail just on this even without taking switches into consideration.

I recommend making the board very thick (a relative term but... maybe "thicker than it already is") laterally and also make it taller to be able to cover more... sack hitting area.

This is also important since no matter how you set up the sensor switch it'll be lopsided somehow, you wanna cover all of that area with room to spare. Maybe to get it most even you can put the sensor switch far below the springboard so the curvature of the sensor area is most flat.

Springboards are a pain in the butt as it is in LBP, one that projects you perpindicularly? Eep... good luck, hope this helped somehow.
