How to make a piston move 1 way once

Archive: 8 posts

I've had a search but can't seem to find the answer, I'm sure it's possible (and probably obvious )

I have a train which is on wheels, it is attached to a piston and at it's maximum length. I want to get on the train which would then activate a sensor switch attached to the piston. This then pulls the train until the piston is at minimum length. I then want to get off the train but don't want the train to keep moving back and forward.

If that is possible then great, what would be even greater is if I could do all that and then if I get back on the train the piston fully extends again and stops at the other end. But that may be too complicated?

What would be even greater still would be the train waiting until I got off then the piston moving it away?

Thanks!

To get a piston to go from one position to the other only once, you can use a permanent switch.

So basically the proximity switch would dissolve a piece of dissolve material that has a mag key attached to it, so that the mag switch attached to the piston (set to directional) would go to it's other state. Thus making the piston go to it's minimum like you wanted.

I "very quickly" lol drew something for you

Many thanks for the quick reply.

I think I follow you, I haven't tried anything like that before. I will have a fiddle with my level and try to implement your method, I hope I can get it to work.

I see you are from London, you may even like my level when it's finished

Oh, nice pic too! Always helpful when explaining stuff like this, doesn't have to be a work of art.

Edit:

Worked a treat! So simple but I would never have thought of it, ta very much dorien.

If you want to learn how to do things like that and much more, search for "logic gate" levels. I suggest Randofu's logic levels.

This could be done using a toggle switch activated by a grab or proxy switch linked to the piston. I'm sure there are a few tutorials for toggle switches around here somewhere. I know rtm223 has created a good one.
