This week: Mm Music Pack 1
Archive: 124 posts
Coming to the Playstation Store this week is a new type of pack for LittleBigPlanet – an original music pack! Three brand new fully interactive tracks to enhance your levels with. Here’s our audio guru Kenny to tell us more about them…

These three new interactive tracks each offer something a little bit different to the music that is already available within the LBP universe. ‘Well Trained’ is a blues number, ‘Wise Owl’ is an ambient electronic type t?ing and ‘Tea By The Sea’ is, er, beyond description ? it's kinda Anglo-French Americana. Or something. You need to hear it to know what I mean, but it's probably my favourite track. They were all written by Mat Clark at Sonica Studios ? Mat wrote most of the original interactive music in LBP (which won a couple of GANG awards for ?Best Interactive Score? and ?Best Instrumental?, not forgetting a BAFTA nomination!), so you know the kind of awesomeness to expect. Have fun using them in your levels! | 2009-10-05 17:40:00 Author: Spaff_Molecule Posts: 421 |

Difficult to tell how good they are from such a small sample but they should be cool, especially being interactive. Hooray for new interactive music BOO if they aren't free !! | 2009-10-05 17:48:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |

The video is a little short so you dont really get the full idea of the songs but what you do hear is nice and I can see them being very useful for "happy" levels. | 2009-10-05 18:25:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
I got ?3 left in my wallet on PSN, perfect!! | 2009-10-05 18:26:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
I have no speakers at the moment... are the songs quite good? Everyone is excited, but I can't hear for myself. I think all 3 are good, though I like the first 2 better at first listen. They all have good possibilities and being intereactive is a triple win for like a $1 a song. | 2009-10-05 18:27:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Very nice! Wasn't expecting it to come out so soon. As I was reading it, I frowned when it said there were only 3 songs...but then I saw that they were all interactive!! YAY!!! | 2009-10-05 18:28:00 Author: persona3fan93 Posts: 155 |

Needs metal... | 2009-10-05 19:09:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
I agree with Foofles, the next music pack should have metal songs. These songs are still awesome though | 2009-10-05 19:15:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |
For people who dont have speakers. Well Trained is a jazz song which is kinda like the metropolis song and is relaxed and urban-ish. Wise owl is like the temples songs mixed with electro and Tea by the Sea is weird but really cool | 2009-10-05 19:17:00 Author: Unknown User |
@PaddyJ I would say Wise Owl is more like the island music mixed with electro. | 2009-10-05 19:23:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |
AWESOME!! Also the last one sounds like street music from New Orleans for some reason... which is really cool! Jazz is actually my favorite genre, so I'm glad to see some more tracks for it. I also like Wise Owl a bit too! I love these tracks. They are so original and well crafted that I NEED to buy them on day one. And I don't buy many packs. In fact, I don't even have the monster pack or history pack. I only save my money for the very best stuff. I hope to see more music packs in the future! | 2009-10-05 19:33:00 Author: TheJollyRajah Posts: 466 |
Hooray! I love what I hear from the preview. I do wish there were a few more in the pack, but since they are interactive, I'm sure there will be a lot of variety. | 2009-10-05 19:33:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |
Hehe... yeah I am glad for more interactive music, incredible variety that way. | 2009-10-05 19:34:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
i like the third one | 2009-10-05 19:36:00 Author: deboerdave Posts: 384 |
Awesome, I'll sure put these to good use. I like Well Trained and Tea by the Sea. | 2009-10-05 19:42:00 Author: 4wheel Posts: 511 |
I don't even have the monster pack or history pack. I only save my money for the very best stuff. I completely understand saving your money, but I highly recommend the history pack to you. That is among the very best stuff. Yeah, I'll definitely be downloading these songs. I really like how they're interactive (we needed more of those). Still, I sort of expected this pack to be free. 2.99 isn't bad, but it is when you've downloaded a ton of content. I probably have spent an extra $20.00 on top of the original $60.00. However, I'm not too upset about the additional costs because I haven't put more hours into another game than I have into LBP. | 2009-10-05 19:44:00 Author: Powershifter Posts: 668 |
The video is a little short so you dont really get the full idea of the songs but what you do hear is nice and I can see them being very useful for "happy" levels. I heard some sounds that could be isolated for some awesome serious stuff too though... even the silly Monster Pack music had the somber strings that made for great fantasy stuff. They snippets sound great. I would love these... | 2009-10-05 19:58:00 Author: Unknown User |

Needs metal... Lol! I too am still waiting for some good head banging tunes. XD | 2009-10-05 20:26:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |
metal would be the most hardcore thing to ever grace LBP...but in my opinion as much as i want it i don't think it'll happen because LBP is more "family" oriented then anything else but i guess i can bump some metal in the POD and in create mode whenever | 2009-10-05 20:35:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
Don't worry Shadowcrazy, it's only Music Pack 1. They'll be others, maybe with metal next time. | 2009-10-05 21:07:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
Good, the game needs more music. I look forward to having a good listen to Wise Owl... | 2009-10-05 21:11:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
Yep this game definately needs metal. And while they are at it can they please add some gangsta rap and a little breakcore. That's exactly what the game needs, not more of this wonderfully versatile and eclectic music that blends multiple genres in a single song and can be modified to suit a whole spectrum of moods and settings. I'm so fed up of that stuff Seriously, metal makes absolutely awful soundtrack music. Always has done, always will do. With the exception of when the subject matter is actually metal, then it works. If you can't see how much more useful this stuff is than pure metal tracks then you have a very, very blinkered view of music. *equips flameshield* . | 2009-10-05 21:13:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Metal doesn't suit LBP. The most metal LBP will ever get is in the Wilderness theme. Also, these songs sound fantastic. Can't wait to get my grubby hands all over these songs and makin' new levels around them. Mwahahahahaha. | 2009-10-05 21:16:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
Wow, the music sounds great. I especially liked the last one. Can't wait to get them. I really do hope they're free. | 2009-10-05 21:22:00 Author: manny_wtk Posts: 127 |
People can't take a funny now and then. Though, I wouldn't necessarily put metal and gangsta rap in the same basket. There is plenty purpose to some upbeat, or even slow, heavier themed music. Never watched all those shows and cartoons from the 80s and 90s with the awesome rocking themes? Oh and I disgree, I think the most metal song in LBP is the wedding theme. Or maybe it is the wilderness. Ah well, TIE! I love all of the new songs equally, they all have worlds of customizable potential. :star::star::star::star::star: | 2009-10-05 21:23:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

Blues music could work well with remaking a level I had in the past...and that owl music could work well with something I have now... Music Pack 1? What songs are next? I would like "My Advice". | 2009-10-05 21:35:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
People can't take a funny now and then. thing is, I'm pretty sure that at least one of those people was serious and if they aren't, it's come up before as serious suggestions and it's just a little silly when you think about it - it just makes the metalheads look bad | 2009-10-05 21:36:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Music Pack 1? What songs are next? I would like "My Advice". It's the Mm Music Pack 1... Daniel Pemberton =/= Media Molecule. | 2009-10-05 21:39:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
Mm Music Pack 1-20000000 lol kinda disappointing though only 3 songs second one sounds cool though | 2009-10-05 21:41:00 Author: rseah Posts: 2701 |
It's the Mm Music Pack 1... Daniel Pemberton =/= Media Molecule. But why is it used in Mm's levels? | 2009-10-05 21:41:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
But why is it used in Mm's levels? Because he made music for them. He is not part of the company. He's made music for loads of stuff. | 2009-10-05 21:42:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
3 US Dollars. Just letting you know. But these do look interesting and useful. | 2009-10-05 21:44:00 Author: chezhead Posts: 1063 |

I'd pay any amount for new music in LBP, even though i never play it anymore! xD Decent new music adds so much to the game for me, when i'm trying to create a unique theme for my level i find it difficult to choose some music that suits it or doesn't affect it too much. It's also really refreshing hearing some new tunes when you're charging through levels. | 2009-10-05 21:47:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
OOOhhh! I forgot about the stickers! By teh way, the stickers are REAL MUSIC NOTES, not cartoony ones. i think. | 2009-10-05 21:47:00 Author: chezhead Posts: 1063 |

I need to make a new music based level with all this stuff! If they ever make some Brutal Legend DLC then we really do need some metal tracks in LBP, or at least heavy rock. | 2009-10-05 22:08:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |

Don't really care for the first one. Actually I dislike it. Doesn't fit LBP at all. Last two are great though. | 2009-10-05 22:39:00 Author: keell Posts: 69 |
I was hoping that the music pack would include 10 or 20 new songs rather than 3, but if they're interactive it'll go a long way to getting lots of use out of them. | 2009-10-05 22:42:00 Author: Matt 82 Posts: 1096 |
if only i hadnt spent ?20 on dlc for lbp yesterday would have made me a nice little birthday present | 2009-10-05 22:43:00 Author: ghostrider135 Posts: 259 |
Wow this is amazing!! $3 for 3 songs is a bargain in my opinion. I'm definitely going to be purchasing this I love the sound of all of them, but I particularly like Wise Owl because it seems to be the most unique from anything we currently have. But yeh, great stuff. And a few music stickers included? Heck yes! I know what I'll be doing thursday - redecorating my pod! | 2009-10-05 22:58:00 Author: hilightnotes Posts: 1230 |
Don't really care for the first one. Actually I dislike it. Doesn't fit LBP at all. Last two are great though. Actually it's jazzy and right in line with the jazz music there is in Metropolis. . | 2009-10-05 23:07:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |

I was expecting 6 but even that was being optimistic 3 is kind of the minimum i'd expect though, 4 would of been nice I agree that the first track doesn't suit lbp much too but it might not be too bad once we've heard the whole thing. It isn't completly off the spectrum so we can give it a chance. | 2009-10-05 23:46:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |

Best pack in a while - can't wait for this Thursday. Any word on it's price? Yes, and the price has actually been updated/corrected. It's $3.99 Still definitely a great deal, but kinda disappointing after they made the mistake of $2.99. But I'll still get it | 2009-10-06 00:15:00 Author: hilightnotes Posts: 1230 |
It's a little pricey once you convert and add taxes for only 3 songs, but I really need to hear some new tunes so... | 2009-10-06 02:42:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |

Good thing rtm's flame shield was up! Haha seriously, I think rtm was simply saying that metal songs in LBP would have a very narrow range of use, since metal music would sound out of place in the vast majority of LBP levels. That's not to say they should shun metal from LBP, simply that it wouldn't be practical to spend time making a song that would only be used in very rare cases (at least in my opinion). | 2009-10-06 03:40:00 Author: hilightnotes Posts: 1230 |
I actually would like to see a nice classical guitar type of song. Really slow and soothing. I think it would work out well. I would also like a tune that would mimic the atmosphere of interstellar space... It would sound like a cacophony of different ambient effects more than it would a song... but I think it would be rather unique. | 2009-10-06 04:02:00 Author: TheJollyRajah Posts: 466 |

I think that in fact, Media Molecule are pure business geniuses. We crave new music so much that they can price this thing pretty high after all. The only thing I don't like about this all is that the songs are of the exact same style of songs we already have. It's great to have new songs but I would also like to have new moods. . | 2009-10-06 04:49:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Not bad at all Price of a coffee. Holy **! How much does the coffee cost in Ireland? Great tunes by the way, especially the second...can't remember the name. I hope they deliver my new credit card by Thursday. It's already 6 days late... Couldn't even buy the Watchmen costumes Besides, we really need some metal like many said. If people are arguing that metal is not connected to the world ethnic style of the game, I invite them to have a listen to Orphaned Land, Finntroll and Eluveitie. | 2009-10-06 08:22:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

Note the section bolded in your post - I said nothing of the kind To reiterate and spell things out: almost all of the tracks in LBP do not feature any one genre of music, especially anything hardcore, they are mostly blended with other genres to create an eclectic mix. Rock music, which is a very broad spectrum incorporating metal, is represented in the LBP soundtrack, but not in a particularly heavy form or on it's own. By the logic in your second paragraph we should have gangsta rap songs and breakcore tunes. Why aren't you complaining about the lack of those genres as well? | 2009-10-06 09:20:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
If we're going to have a rap song, it's going to be by Chali 2na. That's the only way anything will work. | 2009-10-06 12:28:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |

Who knows how many layer the songs will have? 6 like always or more? 6 as usual I think (but more can be good)... I also hope that the tracks are long and includes many "variations", not just the same chorus on loop | 2009-10-06 13:05:00 Author: dajdaj03 Posts: 1486 |
I think that in fact, Media Molecule are pure business geniuses. We crave new music so much that they can price this thing pretty high after all. The only thing I don't like about this all is that the songs are of the exact same style of songs we already have. It's great to have new songs but I would also like to have new moods. I'm curious, what exactly is it that you're claiming Well Trained matches up "exactly" with, stylistically? I think that with them being interactive songs, we should easily be able to pull some "new moods" out of them. | 2009-10-06 14:56:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |
I'm happy to pay but I think that the first will be free and more will cost ya. If it does cost money maybe we can buy them individually. But still, the music sounds like it has many welcome spots in community levels. | 2009-10-06 15:09:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
Call me late, i just found this, but wow, awesome, even though the vid doesn't really show many details | 2009-10-06 15:23:00 Author: springs86 Posts: 785 |
I love the potential versatility of these new tunes, just as I like how the previous songs diaplay elements spanning multiple genres of music! ^_^ Versatility is the key word here... i think they need a couple trip-hop/downtempo songs with the next pack. (this would essentially cover the um... 'cough' rap genre) As well as.... dare I say it, 'metal' (progressive rock or heavy rock sounding music with other musical instrumentation would be much better suited > fun fact for all the metalheads out there ^_^) no offense to any metal purists out there, just politics... *equips flameshield* tee hee | 2009-10-06 15:40:00 Author: miltonTPS Posts: 126 |

If there is any rap that belongs in LBP, it's this - YouTube - Vanilla Ice Ninja Rap - Go Ninja, Go Ninja GO! Also seconding the idea for something classical guitar-esque and more spacey things... definitely need to put more variety in the ambience. | 2009-10-06 16:51:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

I don't know enough electronic music to say that. I didn't feel offended at all, but I want to defend my point. Please go and listen... LOL that first one sounds like it could be a soundtrack to one of my nights out in the West of Ireland .... awesome stuff. | 2009-10-06 17:18:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
Some of that stuff is a little too distracting for games... even though it's awesome Good thing about rock and metal is that it's pretty vague and there's all sorts of variety to it. | 2009-10-06 17:36:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Yeah, you should scrap out the voices obviously, but it's just to showcase that you can melt some vibes with metal. | 2009-10-06 18:45:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
*sigh* I don't think you've missed the whole point of LBP, but you did miss the entire point of what I was saying... Note the section bolded in your post - I said nothing of the kind To reiterate and spell things out: almost all of the tracks in LBP does not feature any one genre of music, especially anything hardcore, they are mostly blended with other genres to create an eclectic mix. Rock music, which is a very broad spectrum incorporating metal, is represented in the LBP soundtrack, but not in a particularly heavy form or on it's own. By the logic in your second paragraph we should have gangsta rap songs and breakcore tunes. Why aren't you complaining about the lack of those genres as well? because unlike some people I really don't like to whine (complain) about something not being added in game...the only time you will ever see me complain about something is when they mess up in their DLC (watchmen rorshach hat/mask combo) as for metal I'm not whining about it I just asked for it to be added sometime soon, poked a huge hole in your "logic" there buddy. oh and i was well aware that you never said anything about said bold statement...doesn't mean i can't point it out. also it doesn't matter if metal isn't LBP-like, music is music...and in a game where the possibilities are almost ENDLESS metal and rap and even country can find a place in this game. I don't discriminate music with LBP (although I hate "gangster" rap and country) so I hope Mm adds ALL genres of music into LBP/2 at some point. /thread | 2009-10-06 20:27:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
Actually it's jazzy and right in line with the jazz music there is in Metropolis. . Actually the first one is blues. It still fits in well in my oppinion, they only showed part of the song so I bet the rest will fit better (also it's tweakable so you can take the voice out). | 2009-10-06 21:44:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |

Seriously, if this game had a Chingy track I'd put it back in my PS3 right now(for at LEAST an hour). Honestly though, some rap would be awesome...maybe some M.I.A.? | 2009-10-08 06:48:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |

Paper Planes - M.I.A. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqlY0VOFtyA) (Without the lyrics of course.) Possibly my favorite song of the past year. (Ok so it came out 2 years ago, but really I don' think it got popular until that AWESOME "Pineapple Express" trailer, now I've seen it in half a dozen things) | 2009-10-08 08:16:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |
